Patent Agent Examination, 2013
Notice is hereby given that the next qualifying examination for Patent Agents will be
held on 4th
and 5th
May 2013 at centres located at Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, New
Delhi and Nagpur.

Pattern of question papers:
1. Paper I will consist of two parts, i.e. Part A and B.a. Part A will consist of two parts, i.e. part A1 and A2 and all questions will be
compulsory.
i. Part A1, of 30 marks, will have 15 multiple choice questions of
two marks each. Each question will have a maximum of six choices and
a maximum of two correct choices.
ii. Part A2, of 10 marks, will have 10 true / false type questions of
one mark each.
b. Part B will consist of 8 subjective type questions and the candidates will berequired to attempt any 6 out of the 8 questions.
2. Paper-II will consist of two parts, i.e. Part A and B.a. Part-A, of 40 marks, will consist of 6 questions of 10 marks each and the
candidate will be required to attempt any 4 questions. The questions will relate

to drafting and interpretation of patent specifications and other documents
required to be submitted under the Act and Rules.
b. Part-B, of 60 marks, will consist of parts B1 and B2.i. Part B1 will be compulsory and will consist of 1 question
relating to drafting of claims and abstract from a given description of an
invention.
ii. Part B2 will consist of 2 questions and the candidates will be
required to attempt any 1 question. Out of the two questions, one
question will relate to general engineering and the other question will
relate to field of chemistry/life sciences.
Essential qualifications:
Citizens of India having completed 21 years of age and possessing a degree in
science, engineering or technology from any University established under law for the
time being in force in the territory of India or possessing such other equivalent
qualifications as the Central Government may specify in this behalf, are eligible to
apply for the examination.
How to apply:
Candidates desirous of applying for the examination may visit the official website
(www.ipindia.nic.in) between 11th
February 2013 (11:00 a.m.) and 11th
March 2013
(05:00 p.m.) and apply online. Detailed instructions will be posted on the said website
and applications will be required to be filed strictly in accordance with the said
instructions. The candidates will be required to feed the details into the online system
and take a printout of the application form. The said application form along with the
necessary enclosures and examination fee should reach the following address on or
before 25th
March 2013 (05:00 p.m.):

Applications incomplete in any respect or received after 25th
March 2013 (05:00 p.m.)
will not be entertained. The centre for examination will be communicated to the
candidates in due course and all the candidates are advised to regularly visit the
official website for updates.
