GVCA executive and residents containing someexcellent ideas. These were tabled at an earliermeeting in December.

One area of concern that your executive has, isthe tendency of both Metro and the hotelmanagement to view each other's - and thecommunity's - activities in isolation. We believethat this lack of co-ordination does not serveanyone's interests. Therefore we will seek toensure that the site is considered in its entiretyas the final plan evolves.

Metro Councillor Brain Ashton will be presentat the GVGA's Annual Meeting on April 2nd todiscuss the plan outlining the future of theGuild Inn, so please plan to attend.

This is your chance to hear what is planned forthe Guild Inn, and to offer your opinions.

What a Year!

President's Report for 1995

Over the past year, all residents of Guildwood Village have been able to enjoy the

many community activities that have beensponsored and operated by your Association.

Most recently, the Christmas Celebration at theGuild Inn was another huge success thanks tothe work of Sherry Ng. Hundreds of peopleenjoyed singing carols, drinking hot chocolate, admiring the tree lights, and a visit from Santa.

The Halloween dance was another standout. The pictures posted at Mr. Grocer demon-strated how much fun this annual event is.Once again the costumes were spectacular.

Both Nina Borg and Corinne Chapin are to bethanked for their efforts.

As always, June's Guildwood Day was a terrificcelebration of our community. This is yourspecial day and all the hard work required toput it all together resulted in a fabulous day.Special thanks to Donna Milovanovic for over-all organization, and to Bob Taylor-Vaisey forthe evening BBQ.

Our All-Candidates meeting in May prior to theJune provincial election had a good turnout andsome lively debate.

I hope you recognize the efforts of the manyvolunteers in this brief review of activities in1995. You have supported them with your

attendance and participation.

I would also like to say that the support of allthose on the Executive has made this yeareasier and enjoyable for me. I want to particu-larly thank Gord Evans who will be steppingdown as Treasurer. Gord has been a terrifichelp for years in many capacities, and hashelped me to make sense of the dollars andcents part.

Judith Bornico stepped forward last year asSecretary. Due to other time constraints, Judithwill be stepping down as Secretary. Fortu-nately, Judith will return to the Executive as aMember at Large so we will still have hervaluable assistance on the Committee.

However, there are a few members at largewho will not be returning. Betty Boonstraorganized last years successful membershipdrive, Ted Huisman has been active in thecommunity and the GVCA for many years,Nancy Jones has helped the Association formany years especially with Guildwood Day.

Thanks to everyone from myself, the Executiveand your community. To the new Executive, Ilook forward to working with you in 1996.

If you enjoy living in Guildwood Village, part of itis our sense of community spirit. If you are a longtime resident, or have just moved in recently, GetInvolved and support your Guildwood VillageCommunity Association! Call the GVCAHotLine - 410 2755 - to volunteer.

Your Village, Your AssociationYour Guildwood Village Community Associa-tion represents all residents in many venues allyear long.

We have been active in the struggle to preserveand promote the Guild Inn and surroundinggrounds. Your Executive is represented on theGuildwood Park Advisory Committee that isformulating a long term plan for the Park's use.The Guild Inn is an important part of ourcommunity and deserves our support to help itsucceed as a friendly gathering place and athriving business.

Discussions are still ongoing regarding the useof accumulated lands in the ScarboroughTransportation Corridor. Although the Scarbo-rough Expressway will not be built, there aremany other possible uses for that land and yourAssociation wants to ensure that these plansare compatible with our community.

As government budgets get cut in the lean'90's, it is important that your voice is heard.Your association maintains an active relation-ship with all levels of government, helping themmake decisions that affect our way of life. These decisions affect our quality of life inGuildwood Village.

But most important is that we have fun doingall this. You will find reports about our com-munity activities elsewhere in this issue of theNews and Views. These activities are puttogether by your neighbours. You can be partof this terrific Association too. It only takes anhour or two each month.

Our volunteers include at least one person onjust about every street in Guildwood. Yourneighbour may deliver the News and Views, orcollect your membership, or help at GuildwoodDay, or is part of the Executive Committee.

1996. We are looking for a Treasurer andSecretary. If you're not sure how you can helpout, there are Members at Large positions thathelp the Executive with their own viewpoint. All positions need to be filled at the AnnualGeneral Meeting on April 2.

Now is the time to give back to the associa-tion for the enjoyment you have received inliving in this great community.

Phone the GVCAHot Line 410-2755

to volunteer.

When we were planning our overseas tripfor May and June 1995 we had many concernsabout who cut the grass? Who would water theflowers and the garden? Who would takeproper and appropriate care of the junk mail?etc etc.

Well, we needn't have worried. Ourneighbours Ed & Norma Wheeldon and Johnand Maryann Webster volunteered to do allthese fun things while we were away.

We had a really good time and returnedto find that each one had done the job as if theywere being highly paid for it. What a greatending to a great trip. Our special thanks to allof you for your help and kindness.

More Good Neigh-bours

Our family would like to thank the owners whotake the time & effort (and it must be a big one!)to decorate the huge Christmas tree on the comerof Catalina Dr. and Sir Raymond Dr. Every yearmy kids and I (who drive by, going to granny'shouse, at least 4 or 6 times a week) eagerly awaitthe lighting of this beautiful tree. To our family ithas become a sort of tradition—and it signals thatanother Christmas season is here! Each year wewonder if the tree will be lit again, we marvel atthe spirit which goes into making such an effort,& we talk about letting these people know howmuch we enjoy the tree, but we never seem to getaround to doing it! So this year we thought wewould let you know that we certainly appreciateyour lovely tree—and we in the red Tercel will bedriving by to admire it again next year! Until then, thanks,

Jaclyn & Patrick Mika (& Mum)

The roof of our storage shed at the back of the garage had beenleaking quite badly all year. When I finally decided to tackle thejob Cliff Proctor volunteered to help me. As it turned out he endedup doing most of the work and doing it better than I would have.Parts of the roof had to be replaced and then given triple coveragebecause of the low slope. It had been a major undertaking.Thank you Cliff.

On behalf of the entire Guildwood community,I would like to say a huge thank you to TonyMoraes of Bledlow Manor for his unselfishundertaking of organizing and raising muchneeded funds for an unfortunate Guildwoodfamily that lost their daughter in a tragic caraccident about a month before Christmas lastyear. As was expected, the community gavevery generously, but without Tony "taking thebull by the horns" we would never have had theopportunity to assist. Tony, we are lucky tohave you here in the Guild. Many thanks foryour hard work and organizing skills.

GUILDWOOD VILLAGE COMMUNITYASSOCIATION AWARD WINNER

The Guildwood Village Community Associa-tion Award for 1995 was given to Jeffrey Linfor his work with the Drug Information Stu-dents' program at Laurier Collegiate. Jeffreyhas now gradu-ated and is in hisfirst year atuniversity. Thefollowing is anexcerpt from theletter he wroteto Fred Bate,GVCA Presi-dent, upon receiving the award:

"I feel honoured to receive an award ofthis prestige. In my mind, I believe the DrugInformation Students' program is a very benefi-cial program for the younger children, in that, they become more aware of the different drugsout in today's society as well as making properdecisions in regards to these drugs. It is alsobeneficial for the older students in the D.I.S.program as they get a chance to interact withyounger children as well as sharpening theirknowledge of drugs and alcohol. For me, therecould not have been a better program to be-come involved in. To be able to give back tomy community that has been a perfect livingenvironment for 19 years and to help with thewell being of younger children gives me a senseof self satisfaction as well as a sense of happi-ness to work with these bright, keen and veryfriendly children I know the experience withthe D.I.S. program has had some influence onmy career decisions and I hope I will be able toreach my goals and become a paediatrician. Onceagain, let me thank you for the award and bestwishes to you and your family in the new year."

CONGRATULATIONS JEFFREY!
