  • Domestic abuse is also known as spousal abuse/-family/intimate partner or relationship violence. It is a pattern of physical, emotional, verbal and or sexual abuse by one person in an intimate relationship or marriage that means harm or tries to dominate and control the other person. An abuser often uses fear, shame, isolation, intimidation, financial control, and guilt to keep someone from seeking help. An abuser often threatens to hurt their victim and or someone they love. The violence does not discriminate as it happens among heterosexual couples, same-sex partnerships, and roommate or caretaker relationships; and within all age ranges, ethnic backgrounds, and financial situations.
