Your Invitation to Oglebay Resort and the 33rd Annual Meeting

of the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia

It is my distinct pleasure to invite you to Oglebay Resort for the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia on behalf of its Board of Governors and Offi-cers. We will return to Wheeling on June 17-19, 2015, at the peak of spring to allow you and your family to take advantage of Oglebay’s outdoor activities, local shopping, and historic Wheeling.

This year’s legal education program, “Lawyers and Other Reptiles”, is highly diverse and substantive. Nationally known speakers join with our home grown talent to present topics which are timely, practice worthy, and entertaining. Friday morning’s presentation, “Defending Against the Reptile Strategy,” brings together Steve Quattlebaum from Little Rock, Jill Bechtold of Jacksonville, and Seattle jury consultant Jill Schmid to teach us how to recognize and attack the reptile theory utilized by the plaintiffs’ bar. Celebrity lawyer Rusty Hardin will view his career in “A View from the Trenches when Everyone is Look-ing.” Representatives from three of our substantive committees will present on current energy litigation and claims in “Energy Litigation from A to Z”, and in a return engagement, technology expert Paul Unger will guide us on time management in one segment and teach

the advance course on iPad use in the courtroom in “Death by PowerPoint.” Jill Rice will moderate a panel of our distin-guished members to give their prospectives on the extraordinary legislative session in “What Civil Justice Means Now That We Have It.” Finally, at the end of our program, recent ethics rule changes are captured by Mychal Schulz in his talk, “Do This. Don’t Do That. Can’t You Read the Sign?”

We have plenty of entertainment to surround the CLE Sessions. Wednesday’s welcome reception will feature music by Dan Cunningham. Thursday afternoon offers a buffet of golf, spa time, or wine tasting. See information in the bro-chure for details. Dean Bowman is our keynote speaker at Thursday’s banquet, which will be followed by dance music from Tom Watt.

We could not offer a meeting like this without the generous contributions of our many sponsors and vendors. I encourage all of you to visit with them during the meeting and to use their services and products. The Board and the Officers of the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia thank them sincerely for their support and attendance.

Finally, we all benefit from the collegiality that hallmarks this fine organization. Network. Make new friends. Socialize. Have fun. See you at Oglebay!

Sincerely,

Chazz Charles F. Printz, Jr.
