Dear Motorcaders:

Foretravel has been coping with the non-stop weather and storms like most of Texas and the Midwest has had to do for months and as of this writing, we still have more immediately ahead of us. We’ve gone from nearly dry lakes to having them overflowing in flood-like fashion. We are nearly to the half-way point of 2015. It has been an interesting first half here in Nacogdoches as we pursue a number of important initiatives. We are looking at developing a professional on-line survey to solicit the helpful opinions and advice of our owners. The Motorcader survey only generated eighteen responses and we would like to have broader participation for the issues important to you and us. Our production process is getting rearranged in order to keep our growing shell business out of the assembly process for the motorcoaches. That will cut down on interference and increase the capacity of the production line by doing that work in another area of our campus. Additionally, we are updating our production control system, implementing a comprehensive quality control system and rearranging our engineering group to enable us to better coordinate our product improvements, innovations, quality, and new motorcoach developments. Darrell Luce has been promoted to head up this Engineering reorganization. Just a few things that are currently being implemented is a steerable tag axle, lower profile and gear driven radiator (improves operations and opens up additional floor plans), installation of an engine compartment fire suppression system, slideroom topper awnings, as well as, a host of other things for the 2017 ih that will be introduced at the Tampa’s Florida RV Supershow next January. And, it seems like we are adding things to our to-do list on an almost daily basis. We have redesigned our website to better serve you and those that are using search engines to find us. The Martins, full-time Foretravel owners, have expertise in this area and have been consulting with us in this regard.

Happy Foretraveling,

Lyle

Dear Friends,

Spring is here. Just as we were finalizing blueprints for an Ark, the rain stopped. My yard looks picture perfect. The lawn is greener than green and the bushes and flowers are displaying the largest specimens they’ve ever produced. Of course, now I know what to do in the future. I simply set the sprinkler system to come on mid-

March and continue 24/7 until the end of September.

Our Michigan Motorcade finished with those attending having a wonderful time, seeing parts of this state and cities they wouldn’t have explored on their own. Yes, yes, the weather was a tad cooler than normal. Ok, it was cold at times. I’ve been questioned for setting those dates. You know, the ‘what were you thinking’ or ‘were you thinking’? But the fact is, we can’t go to Michigan without attending the Holland Tulip Festival and that’s the date and place where this adventure began. We had several ‘first timers’ on this motorcade. Perhaps as they recollect on the special events and unique locations they toured, they’ll not recall the coats, hats and blankets as they toured the dunes. Special memories.

The Magical Maritime Motorcade is beginning. This is always a fascinating adventure. Tom & Elaine Nale are so knowledgeable and eager to show those attending, all the wonders of each Provence. They are also excited because they’ve added several new and unique tours and activities to this motorcade. I can’t wait to hear all about it.

Most chapters have completed their first rallies of the year and all reported they were very successful. The wagon masters hosting these rallies should be commended for their time and effort spent planning and executing each rally. Take a minute to think about what is involved. It’s much more than calling a campground and reserving spaces. It involves planning the meals and locations, securing a building or location for your get-togethers and meeting, working with businesses to organize tours or entertainment, making maps, supplying directions to ensure you arrive at each destination with ease, mailing/emailing all chapter members information, and lastly making sure everyone has a good time. If you belong to a chapter, thank and support the wagon master by attending the rally they’ve spent hours, days, and months planning for you. Yes, it’s for you, chapter member. Whew, l best climb down from this soap box before I fall.

I am looking forward to seeing many of you at the Grandvention in Indiana this October. The Ceraland Campground is very nice. No doubt, the Cummins factory tour will be interesting and the scheduled entertainment is wonderful. So delay no longer. Get registered and prepare for four fun-filled days.

6 Motorcader • Spring 2015

I have been on the road a little bit since the last Motorcader. I attended the Florida/South Central Chapter Rally in Bainbridge, GA. What a fun and interesting time that was. It started, of course, meeting new people and getting to see again, those I have met over the years. We visited Colquitt, a quaint town just north of our campground for a wonderful buffet with all southern cooking. We ate everything from collards to swamp gravy, pecan

pie to luscious bread pudding with a wonderful rum sauce. You should have been there. After lunch, we attended a production of the local play “Swamp Gravy” at the old Cotton Warehouse. Every day we were fed and pampered then visited and dozed, and fed and pampered. But then, I said that already. Altogether, it was a most interesting time. Thanks to the special talents of Nelson & Phyllis Sutherland (#12926) and Pat and Yvonne Brewer (#12627). They outdid themselves.

Upon leaving, I went up to the WalMart for fuel and got a real jolt when my coach wouldn’t start. After checking cable connections, starter connections etc. and getting assistance from Larry and Nancy Rubin (#16515), phone calls to Gary Omel (#13001) and a local mechanic, we found the solenoid head to be broken and since it and the starter are one unit, I would have to have a new one. The mechanic shorted the starter and got me started and I headed for my next rendezvous in Breaux Bridge for the Mid South Chapter rally. I made a little detour to Cummins Mid South in Kenner, LA and they had the part sent in and installed the next day, so onward I went. Bill met me in Breaux Bridge where we enjoyed the hospitality of Doug & Maureen Lake (#15561) and the Mid South group. Talk about food. If you are a Cajun food lover, you would have been right at home here. I am and I was!

From there, Bill went back to Las Cruces, NM and I returned to Hudson, Florida to continue helping my daughter through her struggles with cancer. Things are going quite well with her and I want to thank all of you who have offered prayers, good thoughts and strength to us.

We had been talking about upgrading to a coach with less mileage and perhaps a slide and finally found one that we think will suit our needs. She is a beautiful 2002 with only 65,000 miles on her. A lot less than the 250,000 I had on the 2000. We are now in the process of preparing for what portends to be a marvelous trip on the Magical Maritimes Motorcade. My daughter, 11 year old grandson, one dog and two cats will be joining us. I think I may have lost my sanity as I read that last sentence. No, it is going to be wonderful! We have traveled with Tom and Elaine Nale (Club Activity & Tour Directors) before and they do one marvelous job at keeping everyone satisfied. We are looking forward to meeting some new people and being with some old friends on this trip.

I am still looking forward to seeing all of you somewhere along the way.

SERVICE NEWS Jack & Bobbie Bradshaw #14800

Well it’s past time that you Motorcaders get out on the road in your coach and start seeing all the beautiful sights that are out there. By the time you get this article, we will have finished the Michigan Motorcade. Yes, we have had some cold days. But we have seen and done a lot of great things on this trip. Even though we had a good time, the cold weather, as usual, caused some problems. One thing that happens a lot not only in the cold, but most anytime, is air leaks. Let’s review the owner’s manual about air leaks.

Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) standard for allowable leak down in air systems is as follows.

1. 4 P.S.I. drop in the front air system in a 2 minute time period.2. 4 P.S.I. drop in the rear air system in a 2 minute time period.

This translates into 120 P.S.I. drop in a one hour time period. In other words, both needles would be allowed to go to zero P.S.I. in one hour. All control valves, relay valves, check valves, etc. have allowable leak rates, even for new components. It is not within the scope of Foretravel, Inc., or any manufacturer, to completely eliminate air leaks. This is why D.O.T. sets the standard for allowable leak down rules in the interest of safety. However, Foretravel, Inc.’s leak down rate is set as follows:

Foretravel, Inc. Allowable Leak down.

1. 6 PSI in the front air system in a one hour time period.2. 6 PSI in the rear air system in a one hour time period.

This translates into an approximate 60 P.S.I. allowable leak down rate for each air system in an overnight park mode (10 hours). This is an extremely small air leak. The Foretravel, Inc. standard is 20 times more stringent than the D.O.T. required safety standard which allow 120 P.S.I. per hour.

I know what you’re thinking; if the air gauge drops any, you have a big problem. So let’s discuss how the system works. There are basically 3 air systems tied together.

1. The main one is the engine air for the braking system, retarder and to level the coach when you park. There are two priority valves, one on the rear brake tank and one on the front brake tank that maintain the system for the front and rear braking tank. When parked, these two valves should maintain the tanks air system at least 60 psi to maintain enough air for braking if needed.2. The 12 volt air compressor is for maintaining the coach level during the time you are parked. This supply of air is pumped to the front and rear level valves.3. The 12 volt air compressor also supplies air for the slide out seal air tank, which supplies air to the slide out vacuum generators. These generators, when called to do so, deflate/inflate the slide out bladder, and flush toilet if equipped.

The biggest concern is the 12 volt air compressor cycling. There are step valves, a step well cover valve and a pressure regulator that usually causes this problem. A little soapy water sprayed on these parts may find your leak. Then you have to fix it. Get your air drawing out for your coach and become familiar with how the system works.

I hope this helps you understand a little about the air system so your travels will be more enjoyable.

See ya down the road.

AIRFLOW RESTRICTION GAUGE

The airflow restriction gauge indicates that the air filter needs ser-vicing and can be reset after it has been serviced. The gauge mea-sures the vacuum at the air cleaner, and is located on the engine side of the air cleaner system. As the air filter gathers dirt, the vac-uum increases. On a Foretravel Motorcoach, the Filter Minder® is located on the remote start/stop panel in the engine compartment.

Do I replace or do I clean my Air Filter Element. Foretravel Motorcoach recommends replacing the air filter element when needed. While attempting to clean the filter element, the possibility of damage or holes in the filter element exist during the cleaning.

The Filter Minder® filter monitoring device makes it easy for you to tell when it’s time to replace filter. The Filter Minder® is an air restriction monitoring system that progressively and constantly indicates how much element capacity remains. It measures the actual maximum restriction of the element at the times when the engine is operating under full load and holds that position so that the remaining capacity can be read even after the engine is not running.

If the yellow indicator has not reached the 20” line, note and record the indicated restriction. Compare it with the last reading and note the rate of change. Reset the Filter Minder® by push-ing the reset button on the front of the unit to determine that it is operating. The indica-tor will rise back to the actual restriction level and lock on the next road trip. When the Fil-ter Minder® reaches the RED line, the filter element should be replaced. Initial restriction with new elements will vary with each air cleaner design from as little as 2” to as much as 15”. This value can be noted after a new element is installed and the engine has oper-ated at full air flow.

Hello Beverly,

First, thank you again for putting us in touch with the South Central and Florida club chapters, when they had their Bainbridge Rally. They worked the “Foretravel Magic” on Susan & me. Seriously, they were absolutely wonderful people and that is one reason we’ve now purchased a Foretravel coach!

Second, I want to get enrolled in the Motorcade Club Plus. Susan & I bought a 1999 U320. We would also like to join the two chapters that so graciously hosted us in Bainbridge, as well as the Mid-Atlantic chapter, which is where we are living (for now).

With thanks!

As the beginning of the Ohio Motorcade draws near, the final touches are being put into place and we encourage you to join us on our journey across Ohio.We will rendezvous at Greenville, Ohio, the home of Kitchen-Aide, where we will spend our first few day getting to know one another and the area. As always, Jack and Bobbie Bradshaw (service representatives) will be along to make sure all goes smoothly. We will

take a day and travel to Jackson City, the home of “Airstream”, then back to Sidney to visit “Norcold Manufacturing,” the maker of RV refrigerators. From Greenville, we will travel north to Findlay, Flag City – USA. It is also home to Whirlpool, where we will take a tour of several manufacturing plants. Our next stop is the Bycurcus/Mansfield area. Here we will visit D. Picking Co., the last hand-pounded copper kettle manufacturer in the US. Also Guardian Glass, the manufacturer of our Foretravel motorhome windshields will be a very interesting tour. In Mansfield, we have he opportunity to tour the Gothic Ohio State Reformatory and site of the famous movie “SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION”. Continuing northeast we will stay in the Cleveland area at Medina, OH. A bus trip into Cleveland will take us to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Christmas House, and a sight-seeing adventure on Lake Erie, and tours of the Vitamix Company. and Duct Tape. From there, we will travel through beautiful Amish Country where we have many tours and a meal planned in an Amish home. There is so much to do and see in this area that we have added an extra day for you to explore on your own. It’s simply amazing. Our final destination is Springfield where we will commute to Dayton to the National Air Museum and for the NOT faint of heart, a flight on the “Wright Brothers Airplane”.This is just a sampling of what we will see and do on our time together in Ohio. This is mostly an all-inclusive motorcade with only 2 pre-paid options. Come and Experience Ohhhh Ohio the Foretravel way!

APPALACHIANT R A I L II

SEPTEMBER 8 - OCTOBER 3, 2015

The Appalachian Trail adventure is lined up with a lot of interesting stops, stories and tours. Talks from experienced hikers, trail angels, and the Appalachian Conservatory, will give insight to hiking the many parts of the trail along this southern half.

If you are not already familiar with the 2 TV shows, ‘What’s in the Barn’, airing June 18th and ‘Salvage Dawgs’ airing June 7th, you may want to watch an episode before this motorcade begins to make your visit to ‘Wheels through Time’ and ‘Black Dog’ even more meaningful and memorable. While tours of Poly Portables, Universal Fibers and an Ice plant will update us on some new technology, there is an abundance of history to be re-lived along the way. Dahlonega Gold Museum, Stonewall Jackson House, the Roanoke Railway, Wytheville’s “summer without children” and Gettysburg are a few of the historical places included on this Motorcade along with many opportunities to get your boots on and explore the trail itself.

Join us as we complete the Appalachian Trail adventure.

We are very proud of the entertainment that will be at this year’s Grandvention. Jennings and Keller is Laurie Jennings Oudin and Dana Keller, an acoustic duo based out of Miami, FL. and a part of our Foretravel Family.

They bring a wealth of experience to their collaboration, from the Broadway musicals of New York to the honky tonks of West Texas. Their music is called ‘Fusion Folk Americana’—a blend of many different elements that comes from their vast and wide-ranging musical backgrounds. Their story begins in 2006. After playing together in several different bands, Laurie and Dana decided to join forces and take their show on the road. With the release of their 2007 debut CD, ‘Susan’s House’, Jennings and Keller quickly gained recognition as well as songwriting awards throughout the country. In 2007 alone, they were finalists or winners in 5 different songwriting competitions across the country. The Marlinaires are a fantastic musical trio who prove that “the family who sings together clings together.” With a repertoire including pop, country, rock, R&B and the classics--The Marlinaires can do it all! Jack Marlin will dazzle you with his showmanship, displaying unparalleled skills on the guitar, fiddle and banjo. Jack’s daughter, lead vocalist Michelle will amaze you as she covers any genre with power, confidence and an energetic style all her own. Michelle’s brother, Chris blends in perfectly on rhythm guitar and vocals. Together this versatile family creates tight harmony blends that only come from years of singing together. In addition to the entertainment, as always, great food, factory tours, and great seminars by Chris Crowel RV Manager for Cummins and Karl K. Wilson with Onan and we’ve planned a little healthy competition too. Dress code for the factory tours: No open toed shoes, sandals, high heel shoes, shorts, culottes/split skirts, miniskirts, attire with midriff exposed, sleeveless/tank tops. Safety Glasses are required and supplied. No smoking is allowed and cameras are not permitted. Please join us at Columbus, Indiana for Grandvention 2015. Friends, family and fellowship. A good time to be had by all.

There’s not much time left to sign up for “A Taste of Indiana”. Following the Grandvention in Columbus, we’ll make the short drive just east of Indianapolis to our rendezvous destination of Greenfield. In our first two full days of touring the area, we will see where the Indy race cars

are designed, experience the Rolls Royce-Allison Transmission exhibition, have lunch and tour the historic Union Station along with a tour of the Lucas Oil Stadium, home to the Indianapolis Colts. When we make a short move to Warsaw, we’ll enjoy learning a lot of things you never thought you’d know about chickens, ducks, van conversions, artificial knee & hip replacements, and soy beans. The final stop of this event is in the picturesque Amish country with a full day of touring many Amish businesses and lunch at one of their homes, serving an authentic Amish Thresher meal. This area, in the northern part of Indiana, is rich in the RV Business & home to The RV Hall of Fame as well as Lippert Components, manufacturer of parts for RV industry and are opening their doors for a look at their production. Along with the normal fun, laughter and fellowship, this trip is packed full of exciting things to see and do. You will want to sign up right away as space is limited.

Ladies, the words “Inspections - Post & Pre Trip, Walk Around, Enroute, Pivot Point, Hazards, Eye lead time / Looking into the future, Space Management” have great significant in the Ladies Driving School. This program was designed especially for you!

The curriculum is divided into three phases: Phase one is classroom lecture and discussion; phase two is course problems driving in a controlled environment designed to simulate conditions that you would encounter when driving a motorcoach; and phase three is a blend of driving on city streets, state and federal highways. The comfortable classroom and driving sessions taught by experienced qualified instructors includes all study guides, manuals and printed material needed for the class, as well as for future reference. How much do you know about TEXAS? How much do you really know about Tejas? Tejas is an Indian word meaning friendship; Texas is a word for second largest (hard for me to type / say this) with the biggest heart, manufacturing, technological and farming base of all other states.

Just a few questions to help this discussion along and test your knowledge: What is the state flower, state tree, state bird, state fruit, state plant, and nickname for the state of Texas? My guess is you are scratching your head at this point and need to learn a lot more about Texas. This is your invitation to join us for a wonderful tour of Texas to cover the majesty of her piney woods of East Texas to her big cities to the beautiful Hill Country to the Basin, the mountains and peaks out West to the Palo Duro Canyon on the Caprock. And, when you leave Texas, you will love the state, its people, its hidden beauty, and its hidden treasures. In fact, you might want to stay awhile and perhaps forever. We are working to finalize the Texas itinerary, but know we will start in East Texas area and travel west. We will cover over 1,000 miles in the RV. – Did I mention Texas is really BIG! Come travel with us and experience the sounds, music, wildlife and beauty of this majestic state that has made Texas such a wonderful place to visit, spend several days or a lifetime. My guess is this will be 10-pounder so think big in more ways than just the state of TEXAS. You will see the High Technology side of Texas, the Stars from Texas, you will see the wide open spaces, the world renowned flint supply in / from Texas, you will enjoy a Cowboy Breakfast, singing, and camaraderie with our Foretravel family. So come on down pardner! We are going to have some of the best BBQ, seafood, steaks, shrimp, pancakes, bacon, sausage and music. Join us on this Big Tex adventure to learn about Texas and take home a lot of memories and possibly meet some new friends. As always, we are available if you have questions; give us a call (John at 972-679-3390 or Ellen at 214-492-9607).

Washington, the Pacific Northwest, a fascinating mixture of agricultural, Maritimes, and industry contribute to its cultural heritage. Come with us as we explore a sampling of the state’s highlights. Washington is the 18th largest state but is the leader in apple production, producing more apples per year then the next five

apple producing states combined. While in the Heart of Apple country, we’ll taste many different varieties and learn lots of apple trivia. While in the Seattle area the list of things to do and see, are lengthy. We’ll tour the museum of flight and witness the building of jumbo jets at the Boeing Assembly plant, and spend time just touring this beautiful city, itself. From atop the Space Needle, you’ll have the beautiful Seattle area at your feet, including views of Mount Rainier, Lake Washington, Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountains. In the heart of the Puget Sound, the islands, bays, and channels are back-dropped by two mountains ranges and the massive 14, 410 foot Mt. Rainier. While there, we’ll have so many islands choices, it will be hard to decide which ones to visit, but I’m sure we will do some island hopping along the way. A trip to Washington State would not be complete without visiting Mount St. Helens, where the 1980 eruption blew enough timber to build 300,000 two-bedroom homes. And the volcanic devastation 35 years ago is still visible today. Join us on an unforgettable tour of the evergreen state. You won’t want to miss Washington.

We’ll discover riding aboard the Durango-Silverton Railroad to be the perfect way to see the majestic San Juan Mountains. Mark your calendars, register, and make plans now to attend the 2016 Grandvention in beautiful Pueblo, Colorado. Escape the heat. We’ll have perfect temperatures and breathtaking scenery to enjoy. It’s a great place to spend this annual four day event where we come together

for informative seminars, good food, and entertainment. Where we reunite with friends and meet new ones. We’ll stay at the Colorado State Fairgrounds. Of course, Pueblo offers many unique and historic places to visit. The down town area is very quaint and the Riverwalk is uniquely colorful. It is home to Bishop’s Castle and very close by is the Royal Gorge Bridge. But, here’s something you may not know about - the Pueblo Chili. This savory treasure has grown from a local favorite to a phenomenon that attracts chili aficionados from around the world. Sadly you never know what you’re about to eat. Some chilies are mild and can be eaten recklessly and some (usually the small ones) has the capsaicin capacity to bring tears to your eyes and not for the faint of heart. Maybe we can learn a little more to find out which is which!! Visitors to Pueblo make it a point to visit a store or farmers market to stock up on these little green delights to make sure they have enough to last until they make a return visit. We’ll keep you updated as plans develop just make sure you tell your friend you’ll meet them in Colorado for the 2016 Grandvention.

Come join us after the 2016 Colorado Grandvention for an unforgettable adventure to the ever famous Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. We’ll start our trek just across the Colorado - New Mexico border in the Taos area. We will then make our way to historic Santa Fe, where we will find the legendary history and culture

fascinating. We will experience the culture by taking in many of the museums, Indian Pueblos and local historic attractions such as the oldest church in the United States, San Miguel Church, built in 1608. Of course, no trip to Santa Fe would be complete without shopping in the downtown plaza. We will continue south toward the Carlsbad area. Now, there are no guarantees, but it’s quite possible we might see an alien or two as we pass through Roswell and Area 51. While in Truth and Consequences, yes, the town really did change its name from Hot Springs, New Mexico to Truth and Consequences on a challenge from the famous TV show of the same name on April Fools Day in 1950, you may want to take time out for a soak in one of more then ten thermal hot springs spas in the area. We’ll arrive in Albuquerque, New Mexico’s capital and largest city, just in time to take in the opening ceremonies and all the Balloon Fiesta has to offer. Sit back and relax from the best seats in the house, YOURS. While there, we’ll also explore the local culture, visit the numerous museums, covering art, history, culture and science. Take a balloon ride or two if you dare, and of course, dine on some of the best southwestern cuisine in full Foretravel style. Join us on this breath-taking adventure as we truly take you “UP, UP AND AWAY” to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.

CHAPTER REPORTSotherworldly landscape. Park Ranger, Dave, gave us a fantastic tour of the south Tufa Towers and showed the brine shrimp that live in those waters. We ended our rally square dancing, led by our very own Square Dance Caller, Jerry Coleman. Needless to say, there was a lot of laughter and fun. Soooo, to describe our Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains Rally, we would say 10 days full of fun, adventures, entertainment, friendship, food and gorgeous scenery!!

Audrey Nelson #16520, President

Central Plains The Central Plains Chapter held its spring rally surrounded by beautiful farm ground, quiet nature and rolling springs near a small community in Sabetha, Kansas. Bob and Debby Best #15037 were the gracious wagon masters for a relaxing time at Sycamore Springs Resort where we enjoyed great fellowship, delicious food, tours, and learned the history of Sycamore Springs with it’s “healing waters”. We had the honor and privilege of welcoming 4 new members: Roy and Martha Dameron #16852 and Joe and Sandy Stout #17409. Indian folklore dating from the early 1800’s and before, relates to many interesting facts of early Sycamore Springs history. Many Indian tribes were known to use the springs for healing purposes. In 1886, it was a well known health resort with hotel and hospital. We all enjoyed a taste from the springs! The country church on the ground houses the oldest pipe organ in Kansas and we had worship on Sunday morning before our good-byes and the organ was played by Linda Chism #14562. We also toured a nearby alpaca farm and learned about raising alpacas, witnessing the beauty of a newborn and its mother. The owners turned out to be friends with 2 of our members, Bud and Dale Pessin #16997. Another interest in Sabetha, KS was Wenger MFG where we received a great welcome and tour. Wenger produces extruders and related equipment and is great example of a Christian oriented private American business. If you have a dog, your dog food was probably made with one of their extruders. Holding true to the Motorcade Club customs, we had several great meals dining out, but were also blessed with Bob and Debby’s great grilling and home-cooked meals.

California The California Chapter Spring Rally, held April 9 – 18, was hosted by Harvey and Audrey Nelson #16520, BJ Holden #16754, Jerry and Nancy Coleman #15800 and great chefs and helpers, John and Nancy Alguire #16241. Many people have experienced California’s coast, but never experienced the “other side” of California, east of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. So this is where our Eastern Sierra Rolling Rally took place, beginning in Ridgecrest for 3 days. We toured the China Lake Naval Museum of Armament and Technology. Displays of a large variety of present and past, US Navy aircraft, weapons and technology are on display for close up viewing and scrutiny. Wildflower exhibit and various tours were also featured. Moving on to Lone Pine for three days , we visited the Manzanar National Historic Site which is one of ten camps at which Japanese American citizens and resident Japanese aliens were interned during World War II. Located at the foot of the majestic Sierra Nevada in eastern California’s Owens Valley, Manzanar has been identified as the best preserved of these camps. Eight thousand square feet of exhibits offer stories, photographs, artifacts, audiovisual presentations and opportunities for reflection. We explored the Lone Pine Film History Museum with an extensive collection of real movie costumes, props, posters and other memorabilia including Roy Rogers, Gene Autry. Hopalong Cassidy, and the Lone Ranger. Many old western movies were filmed in and around Lone Pine. We finished by viewing an “old western” movie. Great fun. Also visited the Historic Mount Whitney Fish Hatchery and the Eastern California Museum in Independence. A guided tour of the Owen’s Lake Region was led by Janet Westbrooke, Cerro Coso College Professor of Biology (emeritus) & Naturalist. Owens Lake has dropped considerably over the years since Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has directed a lot of the water to their area, carrying it through pipes and canals for approximately 200 miles. From Lone Pine, we traveled to Mammoth Lakes where Jerry and Nancy Coleman #15800 hosted a great time for everyone. While there, we traveled to Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve and Visitors Center. Mono Lake is a majestic body of water covering about 65 square miles. It is an ancient lake, over 1 million years old, – one of the oldest lakes in North America. It has no outlet. Throughout its long existence, salts and minerals have washed into the lake from Eastern Sierra streams. Freshwater evaporating from the lake each year has left the salts and minerals behind so that the lake is now about 2 ½ times as salty as the ocean and very alkaline. Tufas, bizarre-looking limestone formations that poke out of Mono Lake, create an

Florida The Florida Chapter began the Year with the Pre-FMCA Rally February 9-10 at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds followed by the SouthEast Area FMCA event. After many years in Brooksville, Florida this was the first rally for FMCA in Sarasota and was the largest event in the history of the Fairground. Since the Foretravel group arrived 2-days early, we selected our spot, the best spot in the complex. We were within walking distance of the activities but outside the busy areas. On Monday evening we enjoyed an extensive buffet dinner at Troyers Dutch Heritage Restaurant. You would not believe the pies and desserts, some of which we’re 6 to 7 inches high. On Tuesday, Paul Yasbeck, formerly a technician at Foretravel in Florida, conducted a technical session and gave some very helpful maintenance reminders. After Paul’s tech session we were treated to “Brewer’s Hobo Stew”. This consisted of everyone bringing a canned vegetable which was dumped into a big pot and cooked with chopped pork. Hmm! Hmm! On March 12 - 14 we joined with the South Central Area Motorcade Club at the Flint River RV resort in Bainbridge, Georgia. There were 27 coaches with 51 attendees. It was a delightful fun-filled event hosted by the Brewers, Sutherlands and Crooks. On Thursday there was a meet and greet happy hour followed by a delicious old-fashioned fish fry with all the trimmings, prepared by the campground owners. Friday’s activities were: breakfast at the clubhouse, presentation by a financial planner from Orlando, business meetings by each region and grilled hamburgers for lunch . Friday also coincided with the Bass Pro Fishing Tournament and the River Camp barbecue Pit-master Contest, reputed to be one of the largest in the South, along with live music; all taking place across the road from the campground. Saturday we traveled 20 miles to Colquitt, Georgia one of Georgia’s small towns with picturesque County Court House Square surrounded by retail businesses. This is very typical in the southern United States, and is somewhat reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell painting. Colquitt is known as the

Mid Atlantic If you didn’t come to our Spring rally in Roanoke Rapids, NC, you missed a great time! Mike and Judy Sharbaugh #15672 hosted a nice rally with good meals and great fellowship. We had a skeet shoot competition and Carol McGee #16516 turned out to be a real Annie Oakley. Larry and Joyce Humphreys #17047 took us on a pontoon boat ride. They had decorated their boat like a pirate ship and we got lots of looks from the other boaters. For our nights around the campfire, there was a sing-a-long contest like The Voice and David Sebert #15673 showed all of us up. We had a fun time at this rally. Some of the above events may or may not have happened. You just have to come to the rallies and find out. The fall rally is scheduled for Oct. 1-4 in Winchester, VA at the Candy Hill Campground. Bob and Carol McGee #16516 and Don and Nancy Sprouse #16159 are hosting this rally. They have planned a tour of historic Winchester and the Shenandoah Valley Museum. Winchester is known for its Apple Orchards and Civil War battlefields. The fall should be a beautiful time to be in Winchester so do make plans to join us for this rally.

Mid South The first rally of the year was in Breaux Bridge, La. at Cajun Palms RV Resort was great fun. The March Music Festival was all about the swamp music! We had a great turn out for this rally, approximately 105 motorcaders and 53 coaches were in attendance. There were 6 first timers and 2 Florida members as guests and our International President joined us as well, Joyce and Bill Holmberg. We enjoyed Cajun food, swamp boat tour, and live music on Saturday. Mid-South Fall Rally is planned for the Choctaw KOA in Durant, OK. on September 17- 20, 2015. This park is on the grounds of the Choctaw Casino and is within walking distance or you can take the shuttle back and forth to the RV park. There will be live entertainment at the casino each weekend.

mural capital of Georgia. Many of the buildings are decorated with murals depicting rural life painted by local artist. Even the five-story grain elevator(shown) is covered by a life like mural. Also, in Colquitt is the old Tanner Inn, serving a southern style buffet lunch from which we stuffed ourselves. After lunch we moved (waddled) across the square to Swamp Gravy Playhouse at the Old Cotton Warehouse. This is a unique and very well presented playhouse whose actors and actresses are from the local community. Their plays derive from local stories about peoples’ lives, we saw the show “Lost & Found”. If you would like more information about this playhouse see: www.swampgravy.com.

Our next rallies schedules are: 1. Christmas season 2015 rally December 4 - 6 at Lazy Days RV Resort in Seffner, Florida( Tampa area) 2. Tampa Supershow Pre-Rally at the Tampa Fairgrounds January 12 - 17, 2016 3. Spring Rally at Neapolitan RV Resort Naples, Florida April 6 - 9, 2016.

Four Corners The Four Corners Chapter is enjoying a peaceful summer. Plans are in the works for a meeting & meal in conjunction with the festivities of the Grandvention in Indiana. I have no details presently, but will get email or snail mail to everyone as soon as I finalize the plans. Meanwhile, best wishes for a healthy, happy, busy summer to all the Motorcaders. Hope to see you all in Indiana.

North Atlantic

Greetings from the North Atlantic Chapter of the Motorcade Club. As I write this article, we have just arrived home from our fabulous Spring Rally in lovely Cape May, NJ. It was held from May 28 – 31. It was so good to be on the road again and to meet and greet our chapter friends. We had 12 Club member coaches and one guest coach at the rally. We stayed at the Seashore Campgrounds and RV Resort which was located near all of the local attractions. If you have never been to Cape May, you must plan to visit there sometime soon. Cape May is a historic Victorian seaside gem and is the oldest resort and one of the most beautiful spots in the country. The entire city is a National Historic District, with nearly 600 preserved Victorian buildings. Jason and Donna Errett #17356 and Dick and Joanne Sherman #15323 planned a great time for all. We had lots of good meals and some wonderful conversation and fun activities. We also celebrated the 50th anniversaries of three couples. Congratulations to Thelma and Glenn Turner #15907, Donna and Jason Errett #17356, and friends Betty and Bob Boyanowski. One of the planned events was lunch at the Washington Inn. Everyone enjoyed the food and the ambiance. Built in 1840 as a Plantation home, the Inn has undergone few changes since its original owners. After our very special lunch, a trolley was waiting to take us on a tour of Cape May. The very knowledgeable guide gave us the history of the town and described the details about the historic houses we saw. It was a lovely day and the ride was enjoyed by all. In our free time, some toured the light house and wineries and visited the beautiful beaches. Others browsed in the quaint shopping areas. It does not get much better than this! Spring goes into summer and before long, it will be time for our Summer Rally at the home of Nancy and John Alguire #16241. The dates will be July 16 – 19 which is the third weekend of the month. Spending a relaxing weekend at the Alguire’s during the summer, never gets old. Contact John and

CHAPTER REPORTS The Northwest Chapter held their Spring Rally in Port Townsend, WA on June 4 - 7, 2015. We had ten coaches representing members from Idaho, Washington, Oregon and California in attendance. Our Wagon Masters were Diane and Dave Crawford who selected a wonderful area for the rally. Our destination was the Port Hudson Marina and RV Park where we had great views of Puget Sound, the Olympic and Cascade Mountain ranges as well as Mt. Baker and Mt. Rainier. We all enjoyed watching the ferries going back and forth, the sail boats and other watercraft. We saw a cruise ship heading for Alaska. Port Townsend is located approximately 40 miles NW of Seattle, WA. Port Townsend is known for its historical charm and the many Victorian building remaining from the 19th Century. The Historic District is a U.S. National Landmark District. It has numerous art galleries, quaint shops, small restaurants and several museums. Another landmark was the Manresa Castle built in 1892 as a private 30-room home. Today, it is a castle hotel. Our first night was a get-together in the Marine Room at the RV park to meet and visit. Everyone brought a “Finger Food” to share. The next night, we all met at Doc’s Marine Grill for a club hosted dinner. We had our potluck dinner which featured BBQ pork ribs and grill chicken on the last night of our rally. Thanks to Claire Almquist for fixing the ribs and chicken. After dinner, we held our business meeting. On our last morning of the rally, a continental breakfast was held in the Marina Room before we all headed out. Our days were open to explore as we wanted. Many drove to Fort Worden and visited the Puget Sound Coast Artillery Museum which covers the military history of the Fort (1897-1969, Army and Navy). The Port Wilson Lighthouse is located nearby. One morning a former mayor of Port Townsend was walking his dog through the RV park and asked if we were a group. We said we were and were in town for a RV rally. He offered to give us a tour of the NW Maritime Center nearby. He had been instrumental in raising funds to build this center. It offers classes and instruction on every phase of boating, from wood boat building to learning to sail or taking your boating skills to the next level. Another morning was the annual Race to Alaska. This race requires you to row, paddle or sail from Port Townsend to Ketchikan without the help of an engine. Gary and Claire Almquist are our Wagon Masters for the Fall Rally to be held in the Bend/Sisters, OR area September 15 - 19, 2015. We have reservations at the Bend/Sisters Garden RV Park located between Bend & Sisters on Hwy. 20. Sisters is a quaint little town with boutique shops, good restaurants, golf courses, fishing, mountain biking and many more outdoor activities. South of Bend, we will be visiting the Newberry National Volcanic Monument and The High Desert Museum. In Bend is

Nancy for more information. Charlie and Anna Mae Bateman #12235 are hosting our Fall Rally this year. It will be an old fashioned dry camping event at the Bacon Hill Campground near Oswego, NY. The rally will be held the weekend after Labor Day, September 10 – 13. We will be camping in a field and getting back to basics. The area has many outstanding attractions. Oswego is the site of the United States Holocaust Museum. Part of the charter for the museum states: “The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is America’s national institution for the documentation, study, and interpretation of Holocaust history, and serves as this country’s memorial to the millions of people murdered during the Holocaust.” Please see the ad in this issue of the Motorcader magazine for more information on this rally. We also have members busy planning the Spring Rally for 2016. How great is that?? Shirley and Russ Major #12059 and Pam and Brad Johnson #16422 are going to be hosting a rally at Center Hall, PA. It will be the “Rally in the Valley”. Center Hall is only miles away from the Penn State campus where there is always a something fun to do. We will have a bus tour of the campus and also visit Penn’s Cave. One stop that is a must at Penn State is a visit to the Creamery. It is the largest university creamery in the United States, using approximately 4.5 million pounds of milk annually, approximately half of which comes from a 225-cow herd at the University’s Dairy Production Research Center and the rest from an independent milk producer. Who can resist flavors like Peachy Paterno and Happy Happy Joy Joy? That rally may be a 10 pounder! Rally dates are June 1-4, 2016. For more information, watch the Motorcader for the ad coming soon.

Our chapter officers for 2015 are:

Richard Sherman (15323) – President, Dolly Ferguson (15909) – Vice President

Thelma Turner (15907) – Treasurer Marlene Wildenstein (11292) – Secretary

Our chapter president Dick Sherman #15323 sends greetings to all. He and Joanne look forward to seeing good friends and meeting first time attendees at all our chapter rallies. Each rally is also a Friends Rally so members are invited to bring their guests along. Hope to see lots of you at a rally or down the road. Safe travels to all.

the Old Mill District where there are breweries, great restaurants and shopping. There are plans to visit the Redmond Air Center Smokejumpers for a tour of the facility located north of Bend.

South Central The South Central Chapter had a most enjoyable Spring Rally at the Flint River RV Park in Bainbridge, Georgia beginning March 12 thru 14. This was a joint rally with the Florida Chapter and was planned and executed by a great team of Wagon Masters, Pat and Yvonne Brewer (12728) and Nelson and Phyllis Sutherland (12926). We had a total of 28 coaches that made the trek to this quaint little old South Georgia town. Our Host had scheduled the Rally to coincide with some interesting activities taking place just across the street from the campground. The Bass Pro Shop was sponsoring one of their large bass fishing tournament and a major Bar B Q Cook Off contest was taking place at the same time. Live music was being played everywhere. We began the Rally with a good old fashioned Georgia fish fry with all the trimmings and things got better from there. In addition to all the local activities our Wagon Masters found a great local theater group putting on a play in the Cotton Hall at a neighboring town of Colquitt, Georgia. Their version of a play called Swamp Gravy kept all of our group entertained and amused. Thanks to the Brewers and Sutherlands for making this a memorable Rally. Our next great adventure will be our Fall Rally hosted by John and Sally Schock (17025) at the KOA Campground in Nashville, Tennessee. Some of the major attractions for this Rally will a trip up and down the Cumberland River in the world’s largest Showboat the General Jackson. Some of Nashville’s finest performers will entertain us while we ride the river in this majestic paddle wheeler. No trip to Nashville is complete without taking in a show at The Grand Ole Opry and John and Sally have that covered as well. There is a lot to see and do in the Nashville area so you don’t want to miss this one. This is the busy season in Nashville so campground space is at a premium. Sign up early so you won’t miss out on a great time. This Rally is timed so that many of you planning to travel to Indiana for the Grandvention can take a break and enjoy a few days taking in the sights and sounds of Nashville before making the roughly 300 mile journey north to Cleveland. If you want to know more about this Rally call John or Sally at 615-934-0043.
