  • National Conversation - RtIRtI stands for? There are _____ tiers?Three critical features of RtI include:_________

  • Three Models (Uses) of RTIPrediction & Preventionprediction of at-risk students and preventing students from falling behind

Remediationintervention for students with academic or behavioral difficulties

Disability Assessmentan intensive intervention test that is one component in the SLD determination process

  • Critical Elements of RtIImplementation of a differentiated curriculum with different instructional methods Two or more tiers of increasingly intense, scientific, research-based interventions

  • Critical Elements of RtIIndividual problem-solving model or standardized intervention protocol for intervention tiers (possibly in combination)Progress monitoring to assess entire class progress and individual student progressExplicit decision rules for assessing learners progress (e.g., level and/or rate)

  • What Does RtI Implementation Look Like?Students receive high-quality, research-based instruction by qualified staff in their general education setting (primary intervention)General education instructors and staff assume an active role in students assessment in that curriculumSchool staff conduct universal screening of (a)academics and (b)behavior (> 1/yr)School staff implement specific, research-based interventions to address the students difficulties

  • Core of OIP & RtIPlease list three research-based practices that you your staff uses across the course of a week?Describe it?How do you know it is evidence-based?

    **Make connection between the two

Another way we can consider ATNot doing a good jobwith all the tools we can do bettertier examination or OIP based interventions offer the opportunity**Discuss that what I plan to discuss will be connected with Stage 2 of the Four Stage OIP ProcessI will not be limited to this but this is where Ill target my time*Emphasize here that the Research Based Strategies component and how the growth in this area has been tremendous in what we are learning aS WELL AS HOW IT IS BEING MADE AVAILABLE.searchable data basesmethodology stated and comparedexamining products and interventions**Introduce nationally states re having conversations OH is having on OIP within the framework of RtIIL mandated state plans submittedKS MTSSCA/NY**Review what I believe we know***They can use the term scientifically based as well to clarify what they know and the like*Make the point that RtI covers a great deal of information but specific to Literacy we are learning a bunch

For our purposes today I am going to focus on Literacy*Set the stage that we have RtI and there is a federal push

Folks see this as an Elementary Pushstates are starting to focus beyond prek-6*This graphic illustrates the dynamic that operates behind the performance gap that struggling adolescent readers confront. Our research has shown that the acquisition of basic reading skills tends to plateau around the 5-6th grade level. However, the demands of the curriculum continue to grow.

Part of the National Center on LDwhy is this occurringwhat does this meanask them when what we generally duewhen do we stop these efforts?****They have collected their research over the years and organized them have access and understanding*Center to examine effective reading practicesmethodologyreportssharing in a manner conducive to making assessments**********************Wiki UseCollaborative Projects using wikis where students combine knowledge Project based learning - cross curricular projects at middle school levelthematic unitsStudent demonstrate knowledgeOnline resource for the classWikis as a classroom webpage (calendar, to do, notes, tips to students)Wiki filing cabinets for teachers**Show them this in action and ask what they are using right now for there resources?*Another one that offers some added features if you are wiling to pay*Make the point that there are a variety of systems available for this purpose and they are increasingly becoming accessible in varied formats**If I havent already done this go to the Newspaper and show the Print Function and then have it read to the user.
