LEARNING ACTIVITY 01
INDIVIDUAL WORK
The OHS Act was established by the Department of Labour to present employers, and employees, with their required health and safety responsibilities and obligations.
Indicate whether the following statements are true or false by ticking the appropriate blocks.
True False
The OHS Act allows for the health and safety of persons at work, and of persons in connection with the use of plant and machinery.
The Act also provides for the protection of persons other than persons at work against hazards to health and safety arising out of or in connection with the activities of persons at work.
The OHS Act can establish an advisory council for occupational health and safety and provide for matters connected therewith.
According to the Act, every employer shall provide and maintain, as far as is reasonably practicable, a working environment that is safe and without risk to the health of his/her employees.
A common misconception of the Act is that it is voluntary and therefore only needs to be used as a guideline.
