Harmonica tabs (eng) (fra) (esp)

It is a tablature for diatonic harmonicas. These tabs have the advantage of including rhythmic notations and to be writable on staves. It can be read with or without theoretical knowledge of music. Here's a little explanation on how to read the Harmonica tabs.

At the top of the page, the words "Harmonica tabs".

At the beginning of the first staff, the word "TAB" is written vertically, the tone of the harmonica, its key (the most common for major diatonic harmonica is the Richter system), and the number of holes of the harmonica. At the beginning of the following staves, only the tone of the harmonica is written. If you need to change the harmonica, you will enter the tone, the tuning and the number of holes of the new harmonica at the right moment on the staff. 1/ Reading which hole of the harmonica is played:

Each line or space corresponds to a hole of the harmonica. It starts with the first hole that corresponds to the lower line of the staff, the second hole with the first following

space etc…

2/ Reading whether to blow or draw:

For the whole notes, without any stem, add a cross on the right of the note if the note

is drawn, and on the left if the note is blown.

3/ Reading if a note is changed by a bending, and how many half tones we should lower the pitch of this note

The bending is available with the drawn notes as well as with the blown notes. On a

harmonica, this effect can only lower the original note. The pitch lowering depends

on the number of half tones written under the score (in this example, a C harmonica,

the 3rd hole drawn is B but it change to A because the note lowers 2 half tones).

Bendings are written with a negative number (-)

4/ If the note to play is an overnote (overblow or overdraw)

The overnotes can be drawn (overdraw) or blown (overblow). This effect raises the pitch of the original note of the harmonica. The written number above the note shows how many half tones the pitch should raise. Example with a C harmonica, the note blown in the 5th hole, with an overblow effect of 2 half tones, change in this case from E to F#. Overnotes are written with a positive number (+).

5/ Rhythmic notation and articulation are the same as for a conventional score a/ It is important not to confuse the writing of bendings or overnotes with the symbol

of the triplets.

In the next image on the left, the number 3 does mean there is a triplet:

b/ If both notes are the same pitch, be careful, a tie prolongs the note. This is only one

note.

c/ for notes with slight or very slight volume, this writing is used:

The letter p indicates that the volume of the note is slight, pp is very slight etc... It is written below the bendings d/ When several notes are played at the same time it is written as follows:

In the example, two eighths notes drown into the holes 2,3 and 4 and a half note drown into 1 and 2. e/ For a tremolo, repetition effect of a note, or tremor(sometime called vibrato), this

writing is used:

There are some notations specific to the harmonica. f/ you can write, if necessary, the pronunciation of the notes. For example, we write the word “Twa” below the note if a note begins with an attack with a short bending.

g/ If a bending effect modify several consecutive notes, it is written like this:

h/ the effect produced with the cup of the hands are written like this:

6/ Example with all the available notes on a C major harmonica (A 10 holes harmonica in Richter tuning. On the staves 1 and 3, notes are written on harmonica tabs. On the staves 2 and 4, notes are written using the conventional scores

The stem is oriented upwards for holes 1 to 4 of the harmonica (first staff) and

downwards for holes 5 to 10 (third staff).

Opening cup (Wha effect):

To write the melodies played with harmonicas of more than 10 holes, lines are added

that represent the holes beyond the tenth (in the example, the note on the right

indicates to draw in hole 13).

For unlisted tunings (Seydel provides a fairly complete list of the most used tunings on

its page), it may be necessary to define the notes of the harmonica:

7/ To write:

We use normal staves, such as the ones you can find in the musical notebooks. If you

do not know how to write the rhythm but still want to use tabs, waiting to learn

rhythmic notation, you can write a melody by noting only the notes:

That equals 4 blown, 5 blown, 5 blown with a 2 half tone overblow, 6 blown, 6 drawn

etc…

Il s’agit d’un système d’écriture (tablatures) pour harmonicas diatoniques. Cette tablature a l’avantage d’inclure la notation rythmique et de s’écrire sur une portée. On peut la lire avec ou sans connaissances de solfège. Voici une petite explication de comment lire Harmonica tabs:

En haut de la page, la mention « Harmonica tabs » Au début de la première portée, le mot « TAB » est écrit verticalement, la tonalité de l’harmonica, son accordage (le plus commun pour harmonica diatonique majeur est le système Richter), et le nombre de trous de l’harmonica.

Au début des portées suivantes, on écrit seulement la tonalité de l’harmonica.

Si on doit changer d’harmonica durant le morceau, on écrit la tonalité, l’accordage et le nombre de trou du nouvel harmonica au moment précis du changement sur la portée. 1/ Lire quel trou est joué sur l’harmonica:

Chaque ligne ou interligne correspond à un trou de l’harmonica. Cela commence avec le premier trou qui correspond à la ligne inférieur de la portée, le deuxième trou avec la première interligne suivante etc…

2/ Lire s’il faut souffler ou aspirer:

Pour les rondes, qui n ‘ont pas de hampe, on rajoute une croix à droite si la note est

aspirée ou à gauche si la note est soufflée.

3/ Lire si la note est modifiée par un bending, et de combien de demi-tons elle baisse.

On peut faire des bendings sur des notes aspirées ou soufflées. Sur un harmonica, cela peut seulement faire baisser la note d’origine. La note baisse de la quantité de demi-tons indiqué sous celle-ci (dans l’exemple, un harmonica en C, le 3 aspiré d’origine est B mais baisse de 2 demi-tons, c’est-à-dire qu’il passe ici à A). On écrit les bendings à l’aide d’un numéro negatif (-)

4/ Lire si la note à jouer est une overnote (overblow ou overdraw)

Les overnotes peuvent être aspirées (overdraw) ou soufflées (overblow) C’est un effet qui fait monter la note d’origine de l’harmonica. Le numéro écrit au-dessus de la note indique de combien de demi-tons elle monte. Exemple d’un harmonica en C, la note soufflée en 5, avec l’overblow, monte ici de 2

demi-tons et passe de E à F#. On note les overnotes avec un numéro positif (+).

5/ La notation rythmique et l’articulation restent les mêmes que pour une partition conventionnelle a/ Il est important de ne pas confondre les indications de bendings ou d’overnotes

avec l’écriture des triolets

b/ Si les deux notes sont les même, attention, une liaison est le prolongement d’une note. Il s’agit d’une seule note.

c/ pour le notes dont le volume est faible ou très faible on utilise cette écriture:

Dans l’exemple, deux croches aspirées dans les trous 2,3 et 4 et une blanche aspirée dans 1 et 2. e/ Pour noter le tremolo, effet de répétition d’une note, ou tremblement :

Il y a certaines notations propres à l’harmonica : f/ On écrit, si cela est nécessaire, la prononciation des notes. Par exemple, on écrit « Twa » sous la note si celle-ci commence par une attaque avec bending court.

g/ Si un bending affecte plusieurs notes consécutives, on l’écrit de cette manière:

6/ Un exemple avec toutes les notes que l’on peut jouer sur un harmonica en C majeur (accordage Richter de 10 trous). Sur les portées 1 et 3, les notes sont écrites en tablatures pour harmonicas. Sur les portées 2 et 4, les notes sont écrites en utilisant les partitions conventionnelles. La hampe de la note est dirigée vers le haut pour les trous 1 à 4 de l’harmonica

(1èreportée) puis vers le bas pour les trous 5 à 10 (3ème portée).

Mains s’ouvrant (effet Wha):

Pour écrire des mélodies jouées sur des harmonicas de plus de 10 trous, on rajoute

des traits pour représenter les trous supplémentaires (dans l’exemple, la note de droite

correspond au trou numéro 13 aspiré)

Pour les accordages non répertoriés (Seydel fournit sur sa page une liste assez

complète des accordages les plus utilisés), il peut être nécessaire de définir les notes

de l’harmonica avant d’écrire la tablature:

7/ Pour écrire :

On utilise les portées habituelles, comme dans les cahiers de portées du commerce. Si

vous ne savez pas écrire le rythme mais souhaitez néanmoins utiliser les tablatures, en

attendant d’apprendre la notation rythmique, vous pouvez toujours écrire une mélodie

en notant seulement les notes :

Qui équivaut à 4 soufflé, 5 soufflé, 5 soufflé avec overblow de 2 demi-tons, 6 soufflé, 6

aspiré etc…

Se trata de un sistema de escritura (tablaturas) muy simple para armónicas diatónicas.

Tiene la ventaja de incluir la notación rítmica convencional y se escribe sobre el mismo

pentagrama. Uno lo puede leer aunque no conozca el solfeo. Aquí una explicación de

cómo leer Harmonica tabs:

Encima del primer pentagrama “Harmonica tabs”

Al inicio del primer pentagrama, la palabra "TAB" esta escrita verticalmente, el tono de

la armónica, su afinación (la más común para la armónica diatónica mayor es el

sistema de Richter) y el número de agujeros de la armónica.

Al comienzo de los pentagramas siguientes, solo se escribe el tono de la armónica. Si necesita cambiar de armónica durante la canción, escriba el tono, la afinación y el número de agujeros de la nueva armónica en el momento preciso del cambio en el pentagrama.

1/ Leer que agujero se toca en la armónica:

Cada línea o interlinea corresponde con un agujero de la armónica. Inicia con el

agujero 1 que corresponde a la línea inferior del pentagrama, el agujero 2 que

corresponde a la primera interlinea siguiente etc…

2/ Leer si la nota esta soplada o aspirada:

Para las redondas, como no tienen plica, se añade una cruz a la derecha de la nota si

esta esta aspirada y a la izquierda de la nota si esta soplada.

3/ Leer si la nota escrita es un bending, y de cuantos semitonos baja.

Se pueden hacer bendings en las notas aspiradas como sopladas. En una armónica, es un efecto que solo puede hacer bajar la nota de origen. La nota baja de la cantidad de semitonos indicada. (En el ejemplo, con una armónica en C, el 3 aspirado de origen es B pero aquí baja de 2 semitonos hasta el A). Los bendings se apuntan utilizando un número negativo (-).

4/ Leer si la nota es una overnota (overblow o overdraw) y de cuantos semitonos

sube.

Las overnotas se pueden practicar aspirando (overdraw) o soplando (overblow). Siempre suben la nota de origen de la armónica. El número escrito encima de la nota indica de cuantos semitonos sube. Ejemplo de una armónica en C, la nota soplada en 5, con el overblow de 2 semitonos, pasa de E a F#. Las overnotas se escriben con un numero positivo (+)-

5/ La notación rítmica y la articulación es igual que en una partitura

convencional.

a/ Es importante no confundir las indicaciones de bendings o overnotes con el símbolo

de los tresillos.

En la imagen siguiente a la izquierda, el número 3 significa que hay un tresillo:

Si hubiera un bending, se escribiría así:

Ó con un overblow:

b/ Si las dos notas son las mismas, cuidado, una ligadura prolonga la nota. Se trata de

una sola nota.

c/ para las notas con volumen leve o muy leve, se usa esta escritura:

La letra p indica que el volumen de la nota es leve, pp es muy leve etc... Se escribe por debajo de los bendings d/ Cuando varias notas están sonando a la vez, se escribe de la siguiente manera:

En el ejemplo, dos corcheas aspiradas en los agujeros 2,3 y 4 seguidas de una blanca aspirada en 1 y 2. e/ Para escribir un tremolo, efecto de repetición de una nota, a veces llamado vibrato :

Hay non obstante algunas notaciones propias de la armónica. f/ Se escriben, en caso de necesitarlo, la pronunciación de las notas. Por ejemplo, se escribe « Twa » debajo de la nota si esta tiene un ataque con un bending corto.

g/ Si el bending afecta varias notas seguidas, se escribe así:

h/ el efecto producido con la copa de las manos se escribe asi:

copa abierta: copa cerrada

6/ Aquí un ejemplo con todas las notas que se pueden tocar con una

armónica en C mayor (afinación Richter de 10 agujeros)

En los pentagramas 1 y 3, las notas están escritas en tablaturas para armónica

En los pentagramas 2 y 4, las notas están escritas utilizando el sistema de notación

musical convencional

La plica está orientada hacia arriba para los agujeros de 1 hasta 4 de la armónica (1er

pentagrama) y hacia abajo para los agujeros de 5 hasta 10.

copa abriéndose (efecto Wha de mano):

Para escribir las melodías tocadas con armónicas de más de 10 agujeros, se añaden

líneas que representen los agujeros más allá del décimo (en el ejemplo, la nota de la

derecha indica de aspirar en el agujero 13).

Para las afinaciones no catalogadas (Seydel en su página publica una lista bastante

completa de las afinaciones las más usadas), puede ser necesario presentar las notas

de la armónica usada antes de escribir la tablatura.

… hasta el décimo agujero.

7/ Para escribir:

Utilizamos el pentagrama habitual, como los de los cuadernos que se encuentran en el

mercado. Si no conoces el solfeo rítmico pero desea utilizar las tablaturas, hasta que

aprendas la notación rítmica, puedes siempre escribir una melodía apuntando solo las

notas:

Que equivale a 4 soplado, 5 soplado, 5 soplado con overblow de 2 semitonos, 6

soplado, 6 aspirado etc…
