Our reputation for innovation, technical excellence and practical problem solving positions us perfectly to respond to our clients’ needs. We have experience of delivering a vast variety of multidisciplinary designs, ranging from complex Greenfield and Brownfield developments, to pioneering solutions to enable the economic and efficient development of marginal fields, to technically challenging deepwater HPHT subsea facility designs and to revenue-maximising LNG terminals. We are also proud to have been involved in over 30% of the world’s entire fleet of FPSOs and to be at the industry forefront in floating LNG production units.
As the industry faces greater technical and economic challenges, it becomes increasingly important to have confidence in the integrity, safety and economic viability of both new developments and existing assets. We work closely with our clients to safely push technical boundaries throughout the oil and gas lifecycle, for example, assuring technology advances to enable XHPHT fields, developing industry-leading holistic life extension methodologies and authoring industry guidance on the management of obsolescence. Our asset support encompasses best-in-class structural and subsea integrity management services, and production optimisation and process facility improvement to safely maximise our clients returns from ageing assets or facilities modified beyond their original duty.
Solan field, West coast of Shetland, Chrysaor Holdings Limited
Atkins’ identification of an innovative self installing ‘articulated tower and storage tank’ solution offered significant cost savings over a conventional jacket and subsea pipeline. Following a change in external drivers however, a fixed jacket solution was developed and adopted. Atkins’ solutions helped to convert this long-dormant marginal field into a production development.
Prelude FLNG, West coast of Australia, Shell
Atkins has helped Shell pioneer the way for taking LNG liquefaction technology offshore to unlock stranded gas fields. Atkins’ state-of-the-art risk assessment and CFD consequence modelling analysis were critical in helping Shell and the Technip Samsung Consortium understand the implications of concentrating the process plant onto a reduced footprint (albeit the largest floating vessel in the world), and thus were instrumental in the decision to invest in the Prelude FLNG Project. This will be the first application of this revolutionary technology anywhere in the world.
Structural Integrity Management on the North Rankin A Platform, Woodside
Our state of the art structural analysis is providing Woodside with confidence that the North Rankin A platform can accept the additional loads from their NR2 development project.
Industry leading innovation
Atkins leads the SAFEBUCK JIP which, with the support of fifteen participants from across the globe, is developing safe and effective pipeline design methodologies that permit lateral buckling. The JIP has incorporated pipe-soil and fatigue testing, and lessons learnt from operating pipelines. The resulting design guideline and analysis tools have facilitated the design of a number of high temperature, deepwater developments.
