Welcome to the first-ever Ojai WordFest, a celebration of words, ideas, and stories unfolding in the magnificent Ojai Valley.

Ojai is home to an incredible diversity of creative people, and many of them write. Ojai WordFest was designed to introduce these writers to each other, to the Ojai community, and to the world at large. In addition, we hope to provide a vehicle for those who wish to write, or to improve their writing skills, to benefit from this expertise.

Ojai WordFest runs for nine days, and each one is full of opportunities for literary exploration. We hope you will sample these offerings widely. Whether you are a published author, an aspiring writer, or someone who is interested in the things that our talented Ojai writers have written about, Ojai WordFest has something for you!

Thank you for your interest in Ojai WordFest, and we look forward to seeing you around town.

character. Winspear is the quintessential artist, working every single day to hone her craft, spinning tales rich in authentic detail and subtle nuance that draw you in and keep you spellbound to the end.

We invite you to join us in reading a book by each of these inspiring local authors during the month of March which we have proclaimed Ojai Reads Ojai month. Allow us to recommend: Getting Things Done by David Allen; Tiger Tiger, Is It True? (a children’s book for all ages) or Loving What Is by Byron

Katie; and Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear. The

books are available at the Ojai Library, thanks to generous donations

from the authors and publishers; and are available

for purchase at Made In Ojai and other bookstores.

Ojai WordFest Salutes:Local Literary Gems

Our inaugural Ojai WordFest is proud to honor three Ojai authors who not only stand out in their respective fields, they represent the kind of diversity that our valley is home to.

David Allen

Productivity guru David Allen’s book Getting Things Done is so well loved by project managers and other business professionals that it has become an acronym. The GTD system for managing the

many “open loops” that busy people create, is used by many successful individuals and businesses in our valley to manage their multi-faceted lives.

Byron Katie

Personal development teacher and founder of The Work, Byron Katie’s approach to “problems” has been enhancing lives and saving relationships across the world. A recent transplant to Ojai, she is perfectly suited to our Californian passion for individual growth and awakening.

Jacqueline Winspear

Award-winning mystery novelist Jacqueline Winspear weaves spiritual sensitivity and efficiency into her beloved Maisie Dobbs

Page 5: Ojai WordFest Program

“Why nine days? Why not just one or two?” Yeah, that probably would have made more sense. Unless you know Ojai. There is so much here. There are so many talented people, so much enthusiasm and energy, so much to contribute, and we wanted everyone to have a chance to take part. Sure it would have been more sensible to do something smaller, but it wouldn’t have been as much fun.
