Okeechobee Correctional Institute (OCI) will be con-ducting a tour of the prison and workcamp for the community on Thursday, July 26. 2012 TBF SOUTHERN DIVISION CHAMPION-SHIP BASS TOURNAMENT IN OKEECHOBEE JUNE 6-8, 2012- Every year, the top 12 anglers of every state compete in the TBF (The Bass Federa-tion) Divisional Tournament Series. The top 2 finish-ers of each state in the divisional tournament move on the TBF National Championship. Each year, one State Federation within that Division hosts the event, having a different state on a rotation schedule. TBF has 7 Divisions for the 47 State Federations to com-pete in - Northwestern, Southwestern, Northern, Central, Southern, Eastern & Mid-Atlantic. Anglers will launch at 6:00 am and weigh-ins will begin at 2:30 pm at C. Scott Driver Recreation area on Wed., Thurs., and Fri., June 6-8, 2012. Bass fishing continues to be off the charts on the big lake. Artificial baits are ac-counting for big numbers of bass each

day. A spinner bait worked through the Kis-simmee grass at first light has garnered many bites. A catch of 30 to 40 bass has been fairly routine. The weather and the water conditions can dictate how good the bite will be, but day in and day out it has been terrific. Many of the bass along the outside grasslines have been small bass, although five to eight pound bass are being taken regularly.

We have been seeing a lot of traffic from the participants of this upcoming week’s Federa-tion Bass Tournament and one of the anglers reported that they had caught numerous bass in the seven to eight pound range and one giant bass that weighed 11 pounds. The anglers that consistently catching the larger bass are flip-ping or pitching with a jig or a creature-style bait.

Blue gill beds can be found everywhere on the lake. Many of the beds are well offshore, while others are back behind the grass lines. Red worms, crickets and grass shrimp are all

pulling a lot of bites. We have seen anglers an-chored in the very shallow water pull one big blue gill after another from their beds. The east side of the lake, Grassy Island and Kings Bar are all great places to get bit so, go fishing and have fun
