The five models of the B400 series are particularly different from other printers on the market. The electro-photographic systemuses LEDs instead of laser diodes for the creation of the latent image in the OPC. They also come standard with automatic duplexprinting - a feature many other similar market printers would offer at extra cost.

Other features include USB and parallel-port connectivity, which do not exist in competing models. Ultimately, the DN models arethus standard-equipped to allow connection to Okidata's own network called "Okilan." Print speeds in these models are rated upto 30 ppm.

These models operate with a system of two consumable parts (i.e. toner cartridge and separate imaging unit), the resolution is1200 x 1200 dpi. The LED heads are warranted for five years, and the rest of the printer is for 1 year.

The B410/420/430 models have suitable monthly cycles of up to 50,000 impressions using 250-sheet capacity paper tray + 1bypass, and a 500-sheet optional tray.

The Okidata B400 series toner cartridges contain chips for both 3,500 and 7,000 pages.

REMANUFACTURING OKIDATA B410/B420/B430IMAGE UNIT & TONER CARTRIDGE

1. Remove the toner cartridge from the image unit.

2. Remove the Phillips screws.

3. Unlock the rear tabs from the image unit cover.




4. Lift the cover off completely. 5. Vacuum the lower toner hopper and rollersection thoroughly.

6. Remove the PCR by moving both posts toward you.




7. Remove the two screws on the gear (non-contact) side.

8. Remove the two screws on the contact side.




9. Remove the contact side end cap, moving it laterally.


10. Remove the chip housing from the contact side.



12. Remove the PCR contact.




11. On the gear side, remove the end cap.

It will come off together with the OPC drum shaft.

13. Remove the doctor blade assembly, taking off its positionand lifting forward.

14. Remove the OPC by lifting it up.

15. Use a vacuum to clean the roller shown withoutremoving it.

16. Assemble the components of the image unit, beginningwith the OPC.




17. Install the doctor blade assembly and snap it into place.


18. Install the PCR contact.

Lubricate the OPC drum shaft with conductive grease and insert almost completely as shown.



19. Install the small white gear to the short axis.

Install the end cap and screw.

20. On the opposite side of the unit, fit the contact chip assembly and install the end cap.




21. Install the end cap screws on the contact side.

Make sure they are firmly in place.

22. Install the cleaned PCR in place by slightly opening contact to allow it to enter the white side.




23. Install the image unit cover by aligning the tabs.

24. Install the image unit cover screws firmly in place.







INSTALLING THE SMARTCHIP FUSE TO RESET THE IMAGEUNIT SUBSTITUTION ERROR25. Remove the backing paper and attach the new chip on topof the two contacts as shown.

TONER CARTRIDGE - DISASSEMBLY, CLEANING & REFILLRequired Tools:1. Thermal punch or drill with cutting cup (20 mm diam.)2. Toner vacuum

Required Supplies:1. Replacement toner (2,500 or 7,000 pages)2. Replacement smartchip for toner cartridge (2,500 or 7,000 pages)3. Round self-adhesive seal (30 mm diam.)

Given that the toner supply slots at the bottom of these cartridges are very narrow, cleaning and refilling is very cumbersome.In this case, we recommend drilling a hole in the flat top section of the cartridge. From there, carry out the cleaning and refillingprocess.

1. 3,500-page toner cartridge shown. 2. Apply heat to the upper left section of the toner cartridge.

Do not press so hard to the extent that it starts to penetrate.




3. Lift the tool away before it reaches or touches the agitator blades inside.

Remove the cut out plastic center made by the tool.

4. Cut away the remaining rim of plastic that protrudes fromthe top, to avoid any pieces from falling into the hopper.

5. Fill the hopper with appropriate toner gram load.




6. Clean up any trace of toner around the hole and attachedthe self-adhesive seal shown.

INSTALLING THE CHIPSThe 3,500-page starter cartridge that comes with the printerhas no chip, while the Okidata replacement 7,000-page tonercartridge does. The installation of these respective chipsrequires simply a insertion into their corresponding slot(see photo).

7. Toner cartridges (3,500 and 7,000-page) respectively.

8. Insert the chip with the rounded corners entering theslot first.

9. Slide the chip in until it stops inside the slot.
