The location of your wedding looks

amazing. Tell us about it.

We rented a cabin for our wedding

that was large enough for our guests

and our closest friends to stay with

us. The house was full with seven

families and tons of kids all weekend.

We had the rehearsal dinner there,

too. It was perfect for Michael, my

adorable six year old daughter

and me.

It appears that you had a rustic

theme?

Yes, absolutely. Mason jars every-

where - we drank out of mason

jars, white candles were all over

the house in all different sizes of

mason jars and the favors were

mason jars that every-

one filled with candy

from buckets… similar

to a general store.

What kind of flowers did

you carry?

My florist used all types of beauti-

ful flowers with touches of sap-

phire blue. She was amazing and

was able to perfectly capture the

feel of our wedding through the

flowers.

Did you make anything?

We made almost everything! The

wooden signs out front, labels

for the mason jars that looked

like small chalk boards and the

wedding guest “book” which

was a large mason jar where our

guests would drop in well wishes

or quotes. We painted tiles with

blue chalk board paint and used

them for the place settings and

coasters. I used lanterns, tons of

candles in mason jars and served

the signature drinks from large

decorative dispensers.

Your photos are really special. I’m

sure you are pleased?

We were so lucky because our

photographer, Amanda Zabrocki,

is my sister in law. She is an

amazing photographer and she

captured so many special shots

and many times we didn’t even

realize she was taking pictures!

What kind of food did you have at

your reception?

We wanted our favorite southern

foods: collard greens, sweet potato

salad, cornbread, shrimp and grits,

fried green tomatoes, chicken fin-

gers… amazing! We had huge buck-

ets of beer outside on the porch…all

local beers in bottles on ice. We had a

signature drink that was a sweet tea

lemonade drink that was a huge hit.

We made it with Simply Lemonade

and Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka….yum!

We also had Raspberry lemonade for

the kids with fresh raspberries added

to it.

Looks we love...ballerina length dress, children’s activities,

a full house for the celebration of love…..

A LAWTON BEAUTY AND HER SONGWRITER HUSBAND

Renee is one of the lucky few that has had a song written for her. Braden

had secretly recorded the song to be played at the reception. It was a sweet

and wonderful surprise because as they approached the dance floor for their

first dance as husband and wife, Braden’s voice filled the room, making this

dance even more special and meaningful.

Renee looked stunning in a fit-n-flare strapless lace gown with a sweetheart

neckline, accented with beading and

a rhinestone sash. Renee’s gorgeous

bouquet was adorned with brooches

belonging to her great grandmothers.

Wearing a sapphire ring belonging to

her great-grandmother, she was surely

as beautiful a bride as Lawton has ever

seen.

The ring bearer carried a family Bible

that Renee’s mom had carried in her

own wedding. Upon the Bible was a

special ring with a special story. Braden

had bought a necklace and ring at a

garage sale when he was a child. He

had given the necklace to his mother,

but told her he was saving the ring

for his wife when he married. When

Braden proposed, he pulled the garage

sale ring out of his pocket and told

Renee he had been waiting 18 years to

give it to the woman he would marry.

W.I. believes this beautiful wedding

has a fairy tale ending and wishes this

loving couple happiness always.29 A Bride’s Guide www.okcweddingideas.com28

RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY... COME AGAIN SOME OTHER DAY.

Photos by: Sherry Lynchwww.sherrylynchphotography.com

Whit ney and ClayWhit ney and ClayWhitney’s wedding to Clay was one of storybook proportions…and one that

Mother Nature seemed determined to foil. The day before the ceremony, in

the grove behind the house she grew up in, it rained 4 inches on the care-

fully manicured and groomed garden area.

The family had rallied together to help Whitney create the beautiful antique

storybook garden wedding she was hoping for. Her parents gutted the old

red barn in the back, added electricity, cleared trees and planted flowers.

For Information on Advertising call 405.216.0747 44 45

Page 27: Oklahoma Wedding Ideas - A Bride's Guide - August 2012

Her dad had mowed and babied the lawn for months in order for it to be the

most breathtaking ceremony location his daughter could have ever dreamed.

Added to this wonderful setting were rocks, benches, birdhouses, wagons,

bicycles, hay bales and so many other vintage “touches” that made this day

so memorable. Whitney’s mom has a great eye for antiques and had saved

away many decorations such as the old organ and stove for “a special occa-

sion someday”. Totally wonderful!

The rain? The grove was a swamp, the reception area a mud pit and

Whitney, in her own words, a “wreck.” But, our story has a happy ending.

Though it sprinkled all morning, family and friends came to the rescue and

began drying off the chairs, setting up the sound system, church friends

brought mulch for the reception area and when it came time for her dad to

walk Whitney down the aisle, the clouds literally parted and the sun began

shining through. Whitney’s father looked at her and said “It couldn’t be more

beautiful.” Truer words have never been spoken.

Elissa had some wonderful

Girls, you will be so busy and have so many decisions right up to the wedding day. But, my advice is: make the wed-ding your own. I was able to create my dream wedding, “country chic” , by finding and making many of my center-pieces, signs, cake stands and décor. It was part of the fun for us. My Mother and I went to flea markets and bought everything from candlesticks to birdhouses to cowboy boots. My father custom made my cake stands and a fireplace mantle that was amazing. I am keeping the cake stands and incorporating the mantle into our first home. These are the things I will always treasure when I think of our wedding. My wedding was perfect and more than I ever expected. There isn’t one decision that Kevin and I didn’t make as a couple. The wedding was very laidback and more about family than a huge party.

We had a local B-B-Q establishment cater buffet style which created a casual feel to our reception. The food was delicious and perfect for a barn reception. We served beer and wine and here is a tip: if you don’t want beer bottles in all your pictures, order custom plastic cups. They are attractive, reasonably priced and can be taken home.

I recommend a cake tasting. Janet from Rosebeary Cakes did an amazing job. She provided several samples of our top choices and was willing to work with us to ensure we were happy. I appreciate all the time she took to answer my questions.

I researched photographers in the OKC area by visiting their websites, viewed their pictures and requested a quote. The photographer is one of the most important decisions I made and I couldn’t have been more pleased with my choice. Bit of advice: Schedule a session to interview a photographer. You want to be completely comfortable - this is the one person you want to have a good relation-ship with. Lisa George was our photographer and she was AMAZING! She was fun and listened to our ideas. We incorporated props into our pictures and they turned our great!

Now for what I wished I had done: I would have hired a wedding coordinator for the re-ception. There were moments that didn’t go as well as expected simply because we didn’t think things through. For example - we cut the cake but didn’t have anyone to cut the entire cake and serve to our guests. The bridal party and family did not have a reserved table. By the time we arrived, the tables were full and we had to sit separately. The food was served buffet style and some of the guests started eating before we arrived. We should have discussed this with the caterer in advance. I feel a co-ordinator would have made sure the reception ran smoothly from start to finish.Again, make your wedding your own and have fun!
