• Day Six began about the time the first land animals appear in the fossil record, about 250 million years ago (250 Ma)

• During the sixth day God creates land animals, including man

• And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping things, and beast of the earth after his kind; and it was so. 25And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind; and God saw that it was good.

• Day Six includes the creation of the dinosaurs

• Some creationists believe dinosaurs were created on Day Five

• However, Dinosaurs are clearly land animals, and recent research has all but proved that they were warm-blooded

• The great sea creatures, such as the Plesiosaur, were probably created on Day Five, and the dinosuars were probably created on Day Six

• And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

• Near the end of Day Six, man is created

• Man is clearly the ruler of earth, even though many animals are larger. God gave man the ability to think, enabling him to rule the earth

• Before the creation of Adam, there were other human-like animals, such as Neanderthal and Australopithicus

• Evolutionists point to them as an evolutionary path from ape to man

• From a Christian perspective, they were not “in the image of God” as Adam is. In other words, they did not have an eternal soul, capable of choosing eternal life with God

• Just how “human-like” they were is debatable, and there will always be an argument surrounding their position in God’s creation

• So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

• Many books have been written about the phrase “in His own image”

• Our short list of attributes for His image is …• Possessing an eternal soul• Conscious of his existence• Ruled by a moral code

• And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

• God commands man to multiply, and to rule over the earth

• Man has dominion over the creatures. This is a great responsibility

• We are responsible for the welfare of God’s creation, for the other animal species

• And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 30And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat; and it was so.

• Man and animals are given plants to eat. This is often misinterpreted by young-earth creationists

• Young-earth creationists claim there was no death before Adam’s sin. They claim that only plants could be eaten based on Genesis 1:29-30

• First, look back at Genesis 1:28. Man was instructed to subdue the earth (and its animals)

• Young-earth people claim that all animals were friendly, and were kind to one another until the Flood of Noah

• If they were so gentle, then man would not have to “subdue” them

• For the animals to be subject to Adam, death was inevitable

• Second, God did not say they could not eat meat…He merely said that they could eat the plants

• Finally, looking at our modern food cycle, animals that eat meat, such as lions, are ultimately plant eaters

• The lions eat the grazing animals, which live off of grasses. Therefore, the lions nourishment comes from plants, through the grazers

• It is clear from the fossil record that there was much death before Adam

he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

• Day Six ends with the statement “very good.” Young earth proponents say it could not be “very good” if there was death before Adam

• Death is a natural process of God’s created world, therefore God created death

Death ultimately unites the Christian with God

in Heaven

There are no Biblical problems with death

before Adam

• The sixth day of creation presents no problems for a person who believes in an old earth
