Welcome to the 3rd edition of Oleander Magazine.

In this edition I would like to introduce fashion model Celine Prins

who I have met about 4 years ago.

At the time, Celine was looking for someone who could provide

piano lessons to her. However, she did’t want to make use of any

written scores and her objective was to develop a way of playing

the piano by heart, soul, memory and intuition. Especially also

learning how to be able to accompany herself when singing.

Since this is one of my specialities, I had the pleasure to coach her

artistically. And joyfully witnessed her growth into confidence and

maturity in playing the piano and in composing her own songs.

Celine Prins was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. With

her mother coming from France and her father being Dutch,

she has two nationalities. After she graduated from high

school accomplishing her VWO, she went to Spain for a gap-

year to study the Spanish language. It was in Barcelona that

she got discovered as a model. She first decided to go back

to Holland and study at the University of Amsterdam and she

then joined Elite models. It was a contract with IMG-models

in Paris which made her decide to pause her studies and

travel to model. For the last three years she has been living in

several different cities: Paris, London, Sydney, Milan and New

York, just to name a few. In addition to modeling, she is

currently working on several projects. She sings and plays

keyboard in her own band THE FOX and remains active in the

creative field. Celine also studied acting and music at the

Lee Strasberg Film and Theatre Institute in New-York.

InterviewCeline Prins

When did you become aware of your interest in fashion and modelling?I actually got discovered at a beach in Spain. It `s a true cliché story, a photographer came up to me and asked me if I would like to work in thefashion industry as a model. I didn’t had any interest in fashion whatsoever at that stage, but I kind of rolled into it.

How did you develop yourcareer?I started my career officially in the Netherlands at Elite Models. Soon I went off to Paris and worked with IMG-models for quite a while, who sended me to all big agencies worldwide.

Have you always been supported by

other people to develop your

modelling aspirations?

At the beginning there was a lot of

resistance from my family and friends

to only go for modelling in life.

But soon they realized it was a big

opportunity for me to travel around

the world and gain some unique

work-experience and they understood

the chance I had in front of me. So

basically really soon, I got all the

support I needed in order to succeed.

What or who inspired you as a fashion

model and still inspire you today?

I admire a lot of my colleagues actually,

since it’s a very tough industry and you

really need to be able to relativize a lot.

In my opinion the models who really stay

focused, down to earth and without a

big food disorder, they are the ones that

inspire me the most. My friend Lara Stone

is also a person who inspires me a lot,

since she always aimed for the big

success and went through a lot of stages

and sometimes difficult times but she

remained the same personality.

…Music is really indispensable in my life…

Do you have other interests besides

your profession?

I do have a lot of interests beside my

profession as a model, which is also

the reason I stopped working as a

model fulltime about three years ago.

It was a strange decision for a lot of

people to actually quit the full-time

job and to go back and study at the

University. But at that time I realized I

wanted something more in my life

than only the `model status`, and so I

tried to develop myself in different

fields. Music and entrepeneurship

are the ones I am currently very

active in. The band was founded in 2009 by

my friend Eva (drums) and myself

and in 2010 Mirjam (bass) and

Sharon (guitar) joined. With our

latest arrival, member Janice

(guitar and cello) the band is now

completed.

But I will always love the creativity of

photography and I am still working

as a model besides my activities

today. Next to my modelling career

I am also playing music with my

band THE FOX. The name is inspired

by the song; `Foxy Lady` by Jimy

Hendrix. THE FOX

When did you start to play music?

I discovered the piano at age ten.

and ever since I always loved to

express my inner thoughts through

this instrument, Some feelings are

just more complicated to express

in words. I have always played

the piano but at a certain stage in

my life, while I was travelling a lot

for my modelling, I couldn’t really

practice. It really made me

unhappy, the fact that I couldn’t

bring my instrument with me all the

time and the travelling made me

realize even more that music really

was indispensable in my life.

Who are your inspirations in the field

of music?

I really love Imogen Heap and

Michael Nyman. But my musical

inspirations are unlimited, I enjoy

listening and playing a lot of different

music styles and artists. I have to say

that I am also very happy with the

fact that Boni Li-A-Sam gave me

some enlightening classes during my

life. With The FOX, our aim is to be

able to perform at different great

venues and festivals on an national

and international level if possible of

course. Our aspiration is to make a

great first album and to be able to

keep going and develop ourselves

in the musical field.

What is your favourite animal and

most favourite landscape?

My favourite animals are; dogs,

cats and lions. But if I have to

choose I will probably choose the

last one, it’s also my sign of the

Zodiac. I adore the Pyrenees

mountains. In the mountains I am

able to relax completely. And I

love the versatility this landscape

has to offer.

What is your favourite kind of music?

It might sound strange, but I do not

have one particular favourite kind

of music. I really enjoy listening to

different music styles. I enjoy

listening to classical music, but also

jazz, Indy and pop really get my

attention.

grounded and in balance with your soul,

body, entourage and mind.

not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes... (Marcel Proust)

What is your favourite kind of food?

My favourite food are sushi and Thai.

What is your own definition of success?
