day 9 | John o’ Groats & dunrobin castleDrive along the coast to John o’ Groats, the most northerly village on the British mainland. Visit Dunrobin Castle, dating to 1275 but renovated in the mid-1800’s. With 189 rooms this is the largest mansion in northern Scotland. Watch a demonstration of falconry in the castle gardens to see trained birds of prey. Continue south to your hotel in Nairn, located on the Moray Firth. (B,D)

day 10 | urquhart castle & cullodenDrive along the shores of Loch Ness to visit the picturesque ruins of Urquhart Castle. Stop at the Culloden Visitor Centre for a walk around the moor where Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. Visit the vast ramparts at Fort George, planned in 1747 as an English army base. A Scottish Highland evening in your hotel will feature haggis, traditional foods and lively bagpipe music and dance. day 1 | Glasgow arrival & city tourYour tour starts at Glasgow Airport with group transfers to your hotel at 8:00 am, 10:00 am or 12:00 noon. Passengers arriving later will transfer to the hotel at their own expense. At 2:30 pm take a coach tour to see Glasgow’s main attractions and visit Glasgow Cathedral, dating from the 12th century. Chat with your tour director and travel companions about your itinerary over a welcome drink before dinner. Overnight in Glasgow. (D)

day 2 | Loch Lomond & oban distilleryTravel into the Highlands as you drive alongside the lovely shores of Loch Lomond and embark on a short cruise to admire the scenery all around. Drive to the town of Inveraray, a planned Georgian town and spend some time there to look at the elegant buildings set along the shoreline. Continue your drive to Oban on the west coast and visit Oban Distillery to see how whisky is distilled and sample some at the end of the tour. Overnight in Oban. (B,D)

day 3 | Isles of Mull & IonaTake a ferry ride from Oban to the Isle of Mull, which is one of the most beautiful of the Hebrides. After a scenic drive across the mountains of Mull take another short ferry ride to the tiny, peaceful Isle of Iona. Visit Iona Abbey, Scotland’s first Christian settlement, which was founded by the Irish Saint Columba in the 6th century. It is the burial place of many Scottish kings and forms an active ecumenical community today. Then enjoy some free time before returning to Oban by coach and ferry. Overnight in Oban. (B,D)

day 4 | “road to the Isles” & clan donald centreTravel the scenic “Road to the Isles” passing Loch Shiel and the Glenfinnan Monument. Cross by ferry to the Isle of Skye, often called the “Misty Isle” due to the showers that drift across the mountains. Visit the Clan Donald Centre at Armadale Castle to discover the history of the clans of the region. Cross back to the mainland by bridge to your charming family-owned hotel near Kyle of Lochalsh.
