NJHS Students Bring Thanksgiving Cheer

Classroom Happenings

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, our 2nd graders participated in a mini Mayflower Challenge. The students constructed boats using various materials such as tinfoil, straws, index cards, and other household items. The goal was to design a boat that could hold a large capacity (base-ten blocks) when floating in water. The teams enjoyed placing as many blocks as possible to see which group had the most. Congratulations to all of the students on their innovative designs.

In keeping with tradition, 8th grade students in Mrs. Roose’s religion classes created “Sanctuary Spaces,” where they made mini models of the inside of churches. Students had to use their knowledge of liturgical vessels and other items found within the church. They also had to apply what they learned from the Altaration series they just finished, which explores the meaning and mystery of the Mass at a deeper level. Students displayed a great deal of creativity in their making of mini tabernacles, Paschal candles, altars, patens and chalices, and even mini priests dressed in proper vestments!
