Miss Felix has worked here at this school for 37 years. How she started out is one big story. Thirty-seven years ago she applied for a third grade teaching job, but she didn’t get the job. Father O’ Day said she belonged teaching the bigger kids in junior high. So before she was principal, Miss Felix was a junior high teacher. On Labor Day weekend, she got a call from Father O’Day that there was a seventh grade job opening. She spoke with her parents and thankfully took the job. She stayed as a seventh grade teacher for a number of years, and when an eighth grade teaching spot opened she became an eighth grade teacher. Then Sister Mary Nathan decided to retire, and she recommended Miss Felix for the job. She prayed about it and took the job! And everything else is history. Miss Felix loved her celebration. She was blown away, and very, very surprised. Miss Felix opened her gifts, and she said they all made her feel really special. Her very favorite part of the celebration was when we all started singing “10,000 Reasons.” When Miss Felix first walked through the auditorium, she thought that she wasn’t worthy of anything like this. Miss Felix really does love us all. She is planning on staying with us at HFHN as long as she can walk up the front stairs. She wants to be most remembered for doing her best for Jesus every day. Our school just had our yearly Trunk or Treat. Trunk or Treat is not just about the candy and the dance. This celebration is about All Saints Day. First, we go to a prayer service to celebrate the saints, then we trick or treat at people’s trunks. Ms. Harmon and some of her third grade saints helped with the prayer service. According to Harmon, her favorite part was watching all the little saints march in. “I liked celebrating as a school family,” Harmon said. As the third grade teacher, Harmon especially likes the third grade Mass because her students get to participate in it. “But I also like the other masses too,” Harmon said. Even the third-graders, Lauren Antao and Noah Cabral, had fun. Antao’s favorite part of the Mass was representing her saint. “I like that I get to be Saint Agnes and I like that she died for her faith,” Antao said. Cabral represented Saint Damien of Molokai. “I like Saint Damien because was a previous saint and he was brave,” Cabral said. Just remember for next Halloween that, it is not just about all costumes and candy it is about saints too.

On October 10, Ms. Michaud lived her fairy tale. The whole

school was invited to her wedding. Her love for children led

her to a career in teaching at HFHN, where she met a fellow

teacher named Mrs. Boswell. It was at Mrs. Boswell’s birth-

day party that she met her future husband, Michael Boswell.

After dating Mr. Boswell, he proposed to her at Disney

World, and they were officially engaged.

In Saint Lawrence Church on October 10, Ms. Michaud

became Mrs. Boswell when she married Michael. When she

arrived in a limousine and entered the Church, the ceremony

began. Father Michael Racine, an alumnus of HFHN, officiat-

ed the ceremony and guided the couple to the most im-

portant part - the vows. “I felt awesome while reciting my

vows,” said Mrs. Boswell.

The wedding party wore beautiful gowns and suits. Mrs.

Boswell wore a white wedding dress with beads on it. The

maid of honor and the junior bridesmaid wore orange and

the rest of the bridesmaids wore blue. The groom and

groomsmen wore black tuxedos with top hats and canes.

After the wedding, they went to McGoverns on the Water in

Fall River for their reception. They went back to Disney for

their honeymoon, which completed her fairy tale dream.

The History of Thanksgiving by Jack Lima & Sofia Coholan

Before the pilgrims came to the New World, many Native American tribes were already living there. For thousands of generations, the native tribes had hunted, fished, and harvested in what is now known as Southeastern Massachusetts. The settlers were English Protestants. They no longer wanted to be part of the Church of England, because the settlers wanted the freedom to practice their own religion. They received funding from English merchants to sail across the Atlantic Ocean to the New World. Their ship, the Mayflower, contained about a hundred men, women, and children, and their voyage took 66 days to get to the New World. They landed in December of 1620 in what became known as Plymouth Colony. One day in spring, Samoset, who was an Abenaki, and Squanto, who was a Wampanoag, visited them. In March of 1621, an agreement was made between the native people and the settlers. They agreed to protect each other from the other native tribes. Squanto, who knew English from his experience with other English settlers, taught the Pilgrims how to grow crops and fertilize the land. One day that fall, the pilgrims decided to have a harvest celebration, so they sent four of their men to go hunting for food. When the Wampanoag's heard the gun shots, they alerted their leader, Massasoit, who thought the settlers were getting ready for war. Massasoit went with ninety of his men to the Eng-lish settlers to see if there was a war coming. The Native Americans realized, soon after their visit, that the settlers were preparing for a harvest celebration. So a few Native American were sent by Massasoit to hunt for deer. For three days the Native Americans and the Pilgrims ate deer, corn, shellfish, and roasted meat. They celebrated together eating food differently from what peo-ple eat today in our Thanksgiving.

Flying Behind the Scenes of Peter Pan

By Shaylee Levasseur and Chloe Santos

Holy Family Holy Name school recently put on a play called Peter Pan. The play starred four students. Catherine Whelan, a seventh grader, played Peter Pan. Seventh grader, Elizabeth Arruda, played Wendy. Colby Street, another seventh grader, played Captain Hook. Alexia Medeiros played Tinkerbell, and she is a 5th grader. They worked extremely hard and did a fantastic job.

Elizabeth Arruda said it was hard to learn her lines because she had a lot of them. But she liked being Wendy, because she formed a stronger friendship to Catherine and Colby. Also, Elizabeth said her favorite scene was the mermaid scene because she liked their tails and their pretty costumes.

Colby Street, who played Captain Hook and Mr. Darling, said he had a fun time saying his lines because he liked doing the accent. Colby liked spending more time with his friends Catherine, Elizabeth, and Alexia. Colby’s favorite scene was Tiger Lily's scene because he got to jump in the boat. Colby’s favorite character is Smee because of his accent and if Colby did not get Captain Hook he would want to be Smee.

The New Members of Our Family By: Caitlin Antao and Victoria Fernandes

It’s time to welcome the new teachers and staff to the HFHN

family. Mrs. Britton is the new art teacher for fourth grade

through eighth grade. Originally a preschool aide, Mrs. Britton

has added art to her list. Mrs. Britton is happy with her new

position. “I love it.” Britton said. “That the community is great,

and the best part is that we are all respectful and caring.”

There are many other new teachers too. Miss Reardon is the

new preschool teacher. Mrs. Melanson is the new music teacher.

Mr. Pacheco is the new maintenance man. Senora de la Cruz is

the new Spanish teacher and Mrs. Herrera is the Spanish helper.

Last but not least, Mr. Mcintyre, who is a former graduate, is

now the new Co- Op / Security.

With the year already rolling, everyone is busy. Unfortunately,

not everyone had time to sit and talk about their new jobs. All

the HFHN families are very excited that the new teachers have

decided to join us, and it will be another successful year.

What is it like to be an eighth grader? Well, let’s find out. Luz Rivas, an eighth grader, has been attending Holy Family Holy Name for five years. She loves being a student because her education is important to her. “I get at great education at HFHN,” said Rivas. Not only is Rivas’ education important to her, but extracurricular activities are also. “I participate in junior choir because I love to sing,” said Rivas. “I’m also in track and the National Junior Honor Society.”

After Rivas graduates from Holy Family Holy Name, she would like to attend Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, or “Voc” for short. Rivas is excited about being an eighth grader. “Being an eighth grader is exciting, sad, and scary,” said Rivas. “I am

excited to go to High School but scared because I won’t know any-one.” Rivas will miss her friends, but will make more friends through high school.
