CAO/CFO – “Established Startup” Specialty Consulting Firm Our client, a European specialty consulting firm with a substantial US operation, has retained Omnibus Consulting to find for them a CAO/CFO to manage the day-to-day financial and administrative operations of their consultancy, which is comprised of some of the best financial and economic minds on the planet and is singularly respected, even amongst their competitors.

The client: Client is a widely respected global financial advisory whose work is held in the highest prestige; our client is often referred new clients by similar organizations – a testament by their competitors to our client’s deep domain expertise, their scalable, robust capabilities and an industry-leading ability to provide truly bespoke analysis. The respect afforded our client is singular, and they have quite possibly the largest analytical staff in their specific domain in all of the private sector. Their clients include: • central banks and monetary authorities, • sovereign, state, provincial and local governments and government agencies, • leading financial institutions, • multinational concerns, • management and strategy consulting firms, • global trade groups and lobbying organizations, and • a “Who’s Who” of academic institutions, and • Think tanks and NGO’s around the world.

The opportunity: Ideally coming out of a professional services firm (another management consulting firm, law/accounting/architectural firm, etc.), the CAO/CFO – in a very hands-on sense - will keep the operational and financial aspects of the business running seamlessly, so that the consultants are able to focus on what they do best – providing substantial expertise in their domain to clients including central banks and monetary authorities, companies in virtually every industry, sovereign/provincial/state/local governments, other consulting firms and financial services concerns.

Acting as a single point of contact for all the company’s financial and administrative, client billing, state government, vendor, and banking/credit relationships, the CAO/CFO will sign all payments, authorize wire transfers, maintain company tax and payroll files, prepare federal and multi-state tax returns (NY, CA, IL, MA, PA,

FL, TX), review client contracts as well as acting as the primary human resources contact within the US operation for all health, benefit and unemployment issues while managing a subordinate.

Requirements

• At least 5-7 years’ experience in a directly relevant function for a professional services firm – managing receivables and payments, benefits, billing and expenses.

• Comfort in being very hands on – one admin reporting in – as the US business scales up • An established track record of financial management of both project and hourly engagements • A CPA with strong experience in AP/AR, payroll and tax • Exceptional communications skills, diplomacy and tact, written and verbal, as this role will many times be client-

facing • Strong working knowledge of Excel and business accounting software packages with the ability to self-support

for same • A solid grounding in employee benefits, including benefits administration and vendor selection • Experience managing and running payroll for at least 50 employees • “Teeth” – a track record of having acted autonomously and creating improvements in all of the above areas

without having been asked • A 4 year degree, ideally in Accounting or Finance, with a high preference for one or more graduate degrees in

a relevant discipline. • The ability to live and work in the US without sponsorship or time limitation

While the company is a small business in the US, it has both a multi-million dollar footprint domestically and an established global presence; one might consider it an “established startup” locally.

The client is a true meritocracy, with employee opportunity being limited only by the value that employee shows to the business; the company offers competitive compensation, generous benefits and vacation, and is even closed the week between Christmas and New Year – essentially resulting in a free extra week of vacation during the highest-demand period for vacation requests.

Of note: *no IPO is contemplated*. While this is a growth opportunity for a professional who can scale with the company, there is no financial exit strategy.
