On April 7, the Odebrecht

Organization launched a new

company, Odebrecht Defesa

e Tecnologia (ODT), designed

to consolidate its operations

in the area of defense and

security. The new company will

concentrate its activities on the

development and production of

integrated public security and

national security systems based

on the customized use of the

top technologies available.

“Odebrecht Defesa e

Tecnologia is equipped to

manage and install major deve-

lopments,” said Roberto Simões,

Managing Director of Special

Projects and Investments

at Odebrecht Engenharia

Industrial and responsible for

ODT. “The company benefits

from Odebrecht’s international

experience designing projects

in highly complex environ-

ments, structuring the financial

architecture of investments, and

primarily, absorbing, elaborating

and employing advanced tech-

nologies,” explained Simões.

One of the steps for ensu-

ring the feasibility of the new

business was the recent acqui-

sition of control of Mectron

Engenharia, a company from São

José dos Campos. With 20 years

of experience offering services

to the Armed Forces, Mectron

manufactures missiles and high

technology products for the

aerospace market, including

radars and aviation and commu-

nication, control and command

systems. The company is curren-

tly designing and manufactu-

ring aeronautical equipment for

onboard civil and military pla-

tforms for the aerospace market

in the avionics sector, as well as

energy, telemetry and telecom-

mand systems.

In 2010, Odebrecht establi-

shed a partnership with the

company EADS Defence &

Security to supply integrated

solutions in systems for the

Armed Forces and civil security.

The joint venture includes the

creation of a Brazilian industrial

base, but will also operate in

other countries.

The company also works in

partnership with the French

company DCNS to install

the naval shipyard and base

complex in Rio de Janeiro

that will serve as site for the

construction and operation

of four conventional subma-

rines and one nuclear sub-

marine under the Brazilian

Navy’s National Submarine

Development Program.

“Starting now, this operation

will take place inside ODT,”

said Simões.

ODT will produce integrated security system

Some 200 Members participated in the Sustainability Knowledgeable Community Social-Environmental Theme Group

On April 4 and 5, some 200

Members of the Engineering

and Construction busi-

ness companies, Odebrecht

Oil and Gas, Odebrecht

Realizações Imobiliárias,

Foz do Brasil, Braskem and

ETH Bioenergia, both from

Brazil and other countries,

participated in the first mee-

ting of the Sustainability

Knowledgeable Community

Social-Environmental Theme

Group in São Paulo.

On the first day, participants

listened to testimonials by

the leaders representing the

Organization’s main stakehol-

ders - shareholders, clients,

financing and support enti-

ties, social and environmental

organizations - and discussed

the companies’ roles with

relation to sustainability, the

topic of engineering and best

practices in the sector. The

following day, Members sho-

wed cases of actions related

to sustainability at their pro-

jects.

“Learning and sustainabili-

ty must be the community’s

two goals,” said Sérgio Foguel,

member of the Odebrecht S.A. Board of

Directors. “Their installation marks a new

level at the Organization, together with the

new Sustainability Policy,” he said.

CONTRIBUTIONS BY SPECIALISTS AND

PROFESSIONALS

During the opening phase of the activi-

ties, Sérgio Leão, the professional respon-

sible for Engineering and Construction

Operation Sustainability, showed how the

theme has developed at the Organization

over the years, since the implementation

of the first Environmental Program in

1992. He cited the main advances: “Last

year, we conducted the first Inventory of

Greenhouse Gas Emissions, we revised

the Sustainability Policy and we expan-

ded the Odebrecht Award for Sustainable

Development,” said Leão. “This year,

we plan to gather the Sustainability

Knowledgeable Community and by 2013,

we want to create the International

Sustainability Award.”

Sérgio Foguel then shared tips for practi-

cing these concepts at the companies and

contract sites. For him, development, sustai-

nability and competitiveness are insepara-

ble concepts. “The issue must have econo-

mic, environmental, social, political and cul-

tural scope, promoting the social-economic

development of the communities in which

we operate,” Foguel explained.

The 2020 Vision and objectives for the

2011/2013 Period were addressed by Paulo

Lacerda, Vice President of Engineering and

Construction Operations. “We must walk the

path of the 2020 Vision, improving the exis-

ting competencies and developing others,”

said Lacerda.

The Petrobras Sustainability Coordinator

- Engineering and Management Support

Department, Regina Brandão, discussed

the company’s Social Responsibility Policy

and the Brazilian National Economic and

Social Development Bank (BNDES) Head

of the Environmental Area (BNDES), Sérgio

Weguelin, talked about innovation and the

need to create economic indicators for the

theme.

To explore the relationship between

sustainability, companies and society, the

meeting included lectures by the Executive

Vice President of the Ethos Institute, Paulo

Itacarambi, and the Executive Vice President

of the Ecological Research Institute (Ipê),

Claudio de Pádua.

Itacarambi highlighted the importance

of the partnership between companies in

order to help build a sustainable and just

society. “Brazil is successfully reducing social

inequality and with the support of com-

panies and development of new technolo-

gies, we can accelerate this process,” said

Itacarambi.

LESSONS LEARNED

The end of the first day and the second

day were dedicated to exchanging expe-

riences among Members based on examples

of Organization company projects.

Paola Nacarato, from Odebrecht Peru,

and Gabriel Azevedo, Responsible for

Sustainability at Odebrecht Energia, des-

cribed the environmental licensing pro-

cess at the Chaglla Hydroelectric Power

During the days of the lectures, Members debated the themes presented and consolidated best practices

Plant, a project recently acquired by the

Organization in Peru. Gabriel Azevedo

emphasized that the planning of social-

environmental actions should be among

the priorities at the start of the contract.

“The earlier we establish the social-envi-

ronmental initiatives in contracts, the

better,” said Azevedo. “The Sustainability

teams should be out in the field from the

very start to anticipate risks and oppor-

tunities,” he said.

Representing Odebrecht Venezuela,

Tania Boscan talked about how the

Maracaibo Plain Socialist Agrarian

Project is a model of integrated deve-

lopment in the region. “We described

how with the sum of the construction

work (infrastructure), together with

the human and productive component

(Members and production), we can

generate economic and social develop-

ment,” said Boscan.

The best practices of the PROSUB

Project, in Rio de Janeiro, and the Santo

Antônio Hydroelectric Power Plant, in

Rondônia, were outlined by Iva Paixão

and Silva and Ana Carolina Farias, both

from Odebrecht Infraestrutura, and by

Nelson Alves, from Odebrecht Energia.

Carla Pires, Responsible for

Sustainability at ETH, discussed social

energy and the biodiversity corri-

dors developed by the company, and

Marcelo Valadão, Construction Director

at Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias,

revealed the “green certification” pro-

cesses undertaken by i-Tower, the deve-

lopment that recently arrived to São

Paulo.

At the end of the meeting, the parti-

cipants gathered into groups to discuss

the content exposed during the two

days of lectures and to consolidate what

they learned for application in their res-

pective businesses. The document with

the conclusions will be published on the

Sustainability Community Page of the

Corporate Portal.

The community elected Caroline

Azevedo, who works on the Rio

Paraguaçu Consortium projects in

Bahia, to be leader of the Social-

Environmental Theme Group. Azevedo

will be assisted by Claudia Dias, from

Odebrecht Angola, and by Gabriela

Rocha, from Odebrecht Peru. Four Best

Practices themes were selected for

the next meetings. These include: Civil

Construction Waste, Social Technologies,

Infrastructure Development in Sensitive

Environments and Climate Change.

Regina Brandão, from Petrobras; Sérgio Weguelin, from BNDES; Paulo Itacarambi, from the Ethos Institute; and Sérgio Foguel, member of the Odebrecht S.A. Board of Directors; were some of the speakers at the meeting

On April 6, Braskem laid the cornerstone for its new PVC

plant, located in the city of Marechal Deodoro, in Alagoas. The

work has already begun, and during the construction period,

the new plant will generate approximately 2,500 direct job

opportunities.

The unit will begin operating during the first half of 2012 and

will receive investments of R$ 1 billion, the largest made by

Braskem in a single project since its foundation. Its production

capacity will be 200,000 tons of PVC per year.

talled in Alagoas, will produce 460,000 tons per year with the

new project. This will make the State the largest PVC produ-

cer in Latin America, helping to strengthen the existing trans-

formation center.

MEETING DEMAND

The installation of the new unit reflects the successful

moment experienced by Brazil’s civil construction market,

which has showed an increasing demand for PVC for use in

tubes, connections, profiles and frames. Last year, the growth

of activities in the civil construction and sanitation sectors cre-

ated an 18% increase in the demand for PVC in the domestic

market.

“The new plant confirms Braskem’s commitment to the deve-

lopment of the chemistry and plastics production chain in the

country and attests to its goal to keep up with its clients’ gro-

wth. In addition to this investment, the company inaugurated

a polypropylene plant in 2008 in the city of Paulínia [rural São

Paulo] and another green ethane plant in Triunfo [Rio Grande

do Sul] last year. “This demonstrates the company’s faith in

the sector and country’s development,” said Carlos Fadigas,

Business Leader.

In April 2008, a group consis-

ting of women from different

countries established the first

contacts with the community

of Mussende, a site in which the

war refugees from the Province

of Malange in Viana have

taken up residence.

This gave rise to the

volunteer work of Kambas

do Bem (roughly translated

as “Friends who do Good”,) a

group formed by 100 wives

of Odebrecht expatriates in

Angola. Since then, the kambas

(or “friends”) have dedicated

their time to learning about the

reality of the capital’s needy

communities, identifying their

needs and organizing activities

that ensure the feasibility of the

proposed contributions.

On March 31, the women

celebrated three years of activi-

ties and 15 completed actions,

such as the construction of

schools and vocational centers

during an event in the com-

munity of Honga in Luanda.

The occasion also marked the

inauguration of the Honga

Community Center, with a chur-

ch, training room - where a con-

fectionary course is being held

- a sewing workshop, daycare

and health care unit. The chil-

dren and adolescents who take

part in the capoeira classes and

a dance group from Mussende

also performed for the guests.

“We are thankful to God, the

Angolan people, Odebrecht

Angola and the partner compa-

nies of and each one of the kam-

bas for the contributions they

have made toward the success

of these projects,” said Luciana

Arce, President of Kambas do

Bem and wife of Ernesto Baiardi,

the Odebrecht Managing

Director in the country.

“Through this support, we have

been able to bring the residents

of these communities hope for a

better future,” she said.

SOLIDARITY AND CAPACITY

FOR MOBILIZATION

After more than one year

of work in the community

of Mussende, the region

where Odebrecht under-

took the “Waters of Luanda”

Project in October 2009,

the kambas inaugurated

the Mussende School, which

offers primary level education.

The site was erected with

funds collected during parties

and events organized by the

group and with donations

from partner companies.

rooms, an administrative

room, teachers’ room, library

tress for 30 youth from the

region.

In Mussende, other par-

tnerships helped improve

the health of local residents.

With the support of a dental

clinic, over 50 children were

assisted last year, and the

Pediatric Hospital monitored

cases of serious illness iden-

tified in the community.

Other actions, such as

programs to encourage rea-

ding and writing, IT courses,

teacher training and the

development of menus for

schools - in partnership with

the NGO Children’s Pastoral -

were also developed during

the three-year period.

In the community of

Honga, the Monte Belo

Project area of influence, the

work began in November

2009, starting with the distri-

bution of hundreds of mos-

quito netting sets to prevent

malaria. Since then, the par-

tners have also built a tech-

nical training center, a home

for nuns from the region,

health care units and a day-

care, in addition to installing

a sewing workshop and trai-

ning and lecture rooms.

The parking lot of Odebrecht’s central construction site in

Luanda served as the stage for the second Karnaval do Bem,

held in March by the kambas. Over 1,000 people participated

in the party that featured lots of music, food and drink. Over

US$60,000 were collected through the sale of the tickets.

The funds will finance part of the construction of a daycare in

the community of Mussende, designed for children ages 3-5.

“Our goal is to make this project self-sustainable and we have

already received the support of the nuns who will coordinate

the activities,” said Luciana Arce, President of Kambas do Bem.

The Clean Waters Project, undertaken by

Odebrecht Infraestrutura in Vitória, Espírito

Santo, received the Brazilian Habitat

Quality and Productivity Program (PBQP-H)

Award from the Ministry of Cities in the

“Sanitation” category at the end of last

year. During the award ceremony, Sérgio

Neves, Managing Director, received the

plaque and trophy from then Minister of

Cities, Márcio Fortes.

The PBQP-H Award disseminates the

quality concepts of Brazilian construction

companies and recognizes the organiza-

tions’ performance. “We were able to show

the Ministry of Cities team that when it

comes to our project, theory is practiced

with quality,” said Danilo Ribeiro, Contract

Director.

In December of last year, Sérgio Neves received the PBQP-H Award from then Minister Márcio Fortes

MEMBERS INVOLVED IN EACH STAGE

Encouraged by the Quality area, last January

the Members of Clean Waters began the regis-

tration process for the award with several

different training sessions.

Three months later, they elaborated the

Management Manual, a document that pre-

sented the development’s initiatives, consi-

dering the two main issues evaluated by the

program: improvement of the habitat and

production modernization in the civil cons-

truction sector. The final report was divided

into two parts: presentation of the Odebrecht

Organization and the actions undertaken by

the project.

Clean Waters gathered several different

Organization actions, such as, for example, the

application of people development programs

such as Introduction to Culture, Young Builder

and Entrepreneur Development (PDE), and

used the Action Program (AP) of the leaders

and their teams as the main management

tool. The report also describes the diffusion of

experiences through the seven projects pre-

sented during the 1010 Destaque Award and

the relationship with clients and suppliers.

After guaranteeing the 500 points necessa-

ry during the first stage, the following phase

involved the visit of a member of the Ministry

of Cities team to the Odebrecht Infraestrutura

offices to evaluate the presented initiatives

up-close.

In December 2010, the project was finally

announced as the only winner in the

Sanitation category, achieving the highest

score of 900 points.

The Clean Waters

Project involves the

construction of 180

km of collection

and pumping syste-

ms, 16 crude sewa-

ge lift stations, a

treatment plant and

20,000 household

connections. The

construction work

should be comple-

ted in October of

this year.

Created in 2009 at the Rio

Claro Foz do Brasil unit, located

in rural São Paulo, the program

“Get Smart - Water and Oil Don’t

Mix” arrived to other operations

of the company in the neigh-

boring cities of Limeira and

Santa Gertrudes. Through envi-

ronmental education actions,

the initiative demonstrates the

correct disposal of cooking oil,

which is extremely harmful to

the environment.

The program is developed

through awareness raising lec-

tures held at municipal schools,

which then become collection

points for used cooking oil. A

partner company removes the

material and pays for the collec-

ted volume. This money is then

directed at the teaching insti-

tutions themselves. Last year

in Rio Claro, 12,000 liters of oil

were collected.

When dumped into sinks,

drains and toilets, the oil creates

a crust along the piping, and

over time, leads to the blockage

of the networks and backflow

of sewage. In rivers, oceans and

lakes, the substance generates

a thin layer on the surface that

hampers the oxygenation of the

water and aquatic life.

EXPANDING INITIATIVES

Santa Gertrudes earned eight

cooking oil collection points,

seven at municipal high scho-

ols and one at the Foz do Brasil

head office.

In Santa Gertrudes, the program “Get Smart - Water and Oil Don’t Mix” distributes funnels and explanatory brochures to municipal school students

The program was launched at

the Joaquim Raphael da Rocha

Municipal School and gathered

150 children. Mayor João Carlos

Vitte, Municipal Secretary of

Education, Edna Buoro Jorge,

Foz do Brasil Environmental

Director, Heitor Vitalli, and the

company’s Coordinator in the

city, Rogério Lima, participated

in the event.

To encourage the habit of

separating oil, the children took

home a brochure with orienta-

tions and a funnel for facilitating

the collection process. “If we

throw oil away just anywhere,

it will pollute the rivers in the

region, and in a few years, we

will be stuck with polluted

water,” said Igor Tedy Ramos,

age 9.

In Limeira, Foz do Brasil refor-

mulated and began supporting

the “A Clean River Begins at

Home” Program in partnership

with SENAI, CIESP and the City

Government. The program ins-

talled 34 collection stations at

schools, companies and insti-

tutions around the city and the

entire population can participa-

te by bringing in leftover oil in

plastic or PET bottles.

Mayor Silvio Félix, Chief

Secretary of the Cabinet, José

Carlos Pejon, Secretary of

the Environment, Domingos

Furgione Filho, Secretary of

Education, Antônio Montesano

Neto, Director of the ‘Luiz

Varga’ National Industrial

Learning Service (SENAI)

Unit, Caetano José de Santis

Junior, CIESP representative,

Wagner Zutin, and Sandro

Mário Stroiek, Director of Foz

do Brasil, were present at the

event. Bishop Dom Vilson Dias

de Oliveira, representatives of

the Environmental Sanitation

Technology Company (CETESB),

directors and coordinators

of the teaching institutions,

employees of the city govern-

ment and SENAI and Members

of Foz do Brasil also partici-

Cultivate the earth and observe the

fruits it bears. For Erivaldo de Jesus, age

19, there is nothing better than watching

these phases. The graduate of the

Presidente Tancredo Neves Rural Family

Home (CFR-PTN) is a farmer and has cho-

sen his life trade. “I don’t see myself doing

anything else,” he said. A resident of the

community of Quebra Machado, located

in the municipality of Valença, in Bahia’s

Southern Lowlands, the producer is cultiva-

ting manioc with the support of his father,

Manuel de Jesus. “I found my partner at

home,” he explained.

Erivaldo is the youngest in the family and

was the only of four brothers to remain in

the country with his parents. According to

the young man, his father wanted his sons

to stay close by, but there were no oppor-

tunities. “We were encouraged to go to the

city,” he recalls. “The image of farming was

always associated with those who never

studied. I am an example of the fact that

this isn’t true. It is possible to stay in the

countryside and have a good quality of

life,” guaranteed the new rural entrepre-

neur, who plans to complete the Agronomy

course to continue with his studies.

The experience of the Odebrecht Knowledgeable

Communities is one of the cases found in the book

Gestão do Conhecimento - Um Guia Prático Rumo à

Empresa Inteligente (“Knowledge Management - A

Practical Guide for the Intelligent Company”) by

Klaus North.

The book presents the most important aspects of

knowledge management at companies and offers a

practical methodology for implementation at small,

medium-sized and large companies. Klaus North is a

Full Professor in International Business Management

at the University of Wiesbaden in Germany, and also

works as a consultant for international entities, gover-

nments and important companies.

As cited in the publication: “to overcome the

challenge of coordinating and transferring the

knowledge generated in the Organization’s diffe-

rent environments, the Knowledge Network was

created in 1992. One of the links in this Network

consists of the Knowledgeable Communities pro-

gram - structured based on meetings with their

own methodology - which gather members with

common interests who are willing to share their

learning and innovations.”

The first Knowledgeable Community, installed

in 2001, was focused on Dams and Hydroelectric

Power Plants. Since then, another 11 communities

have been created and 30 meetings held, mobili-

zing over 2,000 Members.

“Few companies value knowledge and the

importance of sharing it,” said Marcos Cavalcanti,

Coordinator of the Center of Reference in Corporate

Intelligence at the Federal University of Rio de

Janeiro and organizer of the Brazilian edition of

the book. “Odebrecht is one of these exceptions.

The dissemination of the experience accumulated

by thousands of Members throughout the entire

Organization is an unbeatable triumph,” he said.

Case of Knowledge Management

Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial and CSN (Brazilian National Steel Company) are forming a

partnership to install a rebar and wire rod unit in Volta Redonda, Rio de Janeiro. The unit will

be called UPV - Long Steel and have a production capacity of 500,000 tons per year. Gilberto

Camargo, Contract Director, stated that the alliance is a win-win situation for both parties: “We

opened the door for new business,” he said.

CSN developed the conceptual and basic projects and Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial will

be responsible for completing the civil construction work and the electro-mechanical assembly.

“The companies will work together through the Alliance model, assuming their respective obli-

gations, risks and responsibilities and sharing the costs and bonuses,” explained Carlos Alberto

de Oliveira, Administrative and Financial Manager.

It is expected that the construction work last two years and require 3,000 Members during its peak.

The Odebrecht Oil e Gas (OOG) Norbe VIII

drilling rig, built in South Korea in partnership

with the shipyard DSME, embarked on its jour-

ney to Brazil on March 18.

At the departure event, Pedro Mathias, lea-

der of the team responsible for managing the

unit construction, gave a presentation on the

Odebrecht Entrepreneurial Technology (TEO)

and emphasized the importance of this phase

for the company. The honorable mentions were

also distributed to Members for complying with

deadlines while maintaining quality.

During the first phase of the journey, the

Norbe VIII traveled until reaching the Mauritius

Islands with a crew of 67 people, 46 of whom

were members of OOG. The stopover included

the exchange of the crew, replacement of mate-

rials, inspections and functionality tests.

Until the end of this month, the unit will start

the second phase of the trip, when it will cross

the Atlantic Ocean as it heads toward Brazil. It is

scheduled to arrive at the end of May.

The Norbe VIII will operate in ultra-deep

waters and has the capacity to drill at water

depths of up to 3,000 m, including pre-

salt exploration. There is a 10-year term for

the charter and operation of the unit with

Petrobras.

The users of the Rio de Janeiro State train

will now have a safer trip along the stretch

between the cities of Japeri and Paracambi.

A new access viaduct in the railroad network,

which connects the two cities and allows for

the separation of traffic between the pas-

senger and cargo trains, was inaugurated on

April 4.

The passenger trains are operated by

SuperVia, a subsidiary of Odebrecht TransPort

(OTP), and the cargo trains are operated by the

company MRS Logística S.A. The Japeri Viaduct,

constructed by MRS, consists of a variant line

extending 1.5 km, along which 35 pairs of

company trains and 30 pairs of SuperVia trains

circulate daily. Its highway network was dupli-

cated from Barra do Pirapí to Brisamar.

The Secretary of Public Works, Luiz Fernando

Pezão, Secretary of Transportation, Júlio Lopes,

President of SuperVia, Carlos José da Cunha,

President of MRS, Eduardo Parente, as well as

the Mayors of Paracambi and Japeri, Tarcísio

Pessoa and Ivaldo Barbosa, respectively, parti-

cipated in the inauguration ceremony for the

new viaduct.

For Carlos José da Cunha, the completion of

the construction work means more transpor-

tation safety and a reduced travel time. “The

construction of the viaduct reflects the invest-

ment that Supervia will make over the upco-

ming years in search of more efficiency, safety

and comfort,” said Cunha.

Ecom Energia - Brazil’s largest indepen-

dent distributor of energy not associated

with generation, distribution and financial

groups - signed a long term contract with

Braskem for the supply of electric energy.

“Our main differential for ensuring the

feasibility of the business with Braskem

is the certification of our energy balan-

ce,” said Paulo Toledo, Managing Partner

of Ecom Energia. “Contracts with a term

longer than six months receive a certifica-

tion,” he said. André Gohn, Energy Director

at Braskem, pointed out: “This contract

strengthens the competitiveness of the

company’s portfolio and is aligned with its

risk management and growth strategy,” he

said.

Ecom has already achieved the mark

of an average of over 570 MW of electric

energy sold to free clients and market

agents, a number high enough to supply a

city with 2.9 million inhabitants.

Odebrecht Entrepreneurial Technology (TEO),

the first day of the event involved activities

and lectures. Carla Barretto, the professio-

nal responsible for People & Organization at

Odebrecht S.A., presented the Organization

and the 2020 Vision, and Márcio Polidoro,

the professional responsible for Corporate

Communication in the Engineering and

Construction Operations, talked about his care-

er at Odebrecht and about the acceptance and

continuous practice of TEO. The day was closed

with a visit to the head office building and

Cultural Center.

On the second day, the participants were

divided based on their respective companies

and were able to learn a bit about each one.

To promote continuous improvements in Safety,

Health, Environment and Social Responsibility

(SMSRS) and encourage Members, the Gasvap

Consortium (Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial,

Promon and UTC Engenharia) launched the “Golden

Key” Campaign on March 15.

The event was held at the REVAP auditorium in

São José dos Campos, rural São Paulo, and included

the presence of representatives from Petrobras and

leaders and workers from the consortium, who

watched performances by the National Industrial

Learning Service (SENAI) Libras Hearing Impaired

Choir and the theater group Menestrel - Moacir

Reis.

Daily inspections will be held during the campaign

to evaluate the workers’ involvement. Members will

accumulate points, and during the third week of

June, they will participate in drawings for prizes.

Combating and Preventing Dengue. This

was the focus of the Social Civil Action

(ACISO) promoted by the Brazilian Army

in Bahia’s Southern Lowlands in March.

Through lectures, the initiative involved

youth from the Family Homes and members

of the cooperatives associated with the

Bahia Southern Lowlands Environmental

Protection Area Mosaic Integrated and

Sustainable Development Program (PDIS),

instituted by the Odebrecht Foundation.

Types of prevention and treatment, symp-

toms of dengue fever and awareness raising

as to the risks of the disease were among

the topics addressed during the meetings.

Participants also received information on

Sickle Cell Anemia and Alcoholism.

The ACISOs were first held in the region in

2007 at the installations of the Youth House

State High School in Igrapiúna. In 2009,

an agreement signed with the Pratigi EPA

Guardian Association made it possible to

expand the initiatives, which also began to

take place in Family Homes.
