During the reign of Louis XIV, Pontchar-train was appointed as France’s Minister of Marine. Taking its name from the lake bearing his name, the Krewe of Pontchar-train debuted in 1976 as the decade’s fi rst new parade in Orleans Parish. The male and female club moved its procession from the shores of Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans East to a mid-city/downtown route, and also changed the day of its parade from Sunday to Saturday. In 2002 the parade moved to the uptown route and established itself as a fi rst-weekend favorite. www.kofp.com

The Krewe of Pontchartrain presents its 45th annual, 17-fl oat parade that includes signature fl oats for the King and Queen and a special fl oat for the Captain Emeritus

Steven John Daigle will reign as King Pontchartrain XLV and Kera Colleen Aparicio is Queen Pontchartrain XLV. The popular Bayou Clydesdales, a horse-drawn wagon that features icons of local breweries of the past, will be featured. The Tulane Marching Band and the Air Force Academy Cadet Drum & Bugle Corps will perform. Krewe-logo items tossed by the organization’s 400 men and women include crawfi sh trays, 38”pearl mini-grouper beads, and medallion beads. The Saturday afternoon parade, with fl oats by Ducote Design, traditionally includes more than 40 units and features a band contest. The annual Jeudi Gras Ball is set for the Chateau Golf and Country Club in Kenner on February 13, 2020.
On May 17, 2004, a group of former members from the Krewe of Gladiators and other longtime Carnival parade riders came together and formed the Knights of Nemesis Social Club and Parade. Named after the Greek goddess of retribution, the Knights of Nemesis’s mission then was to become “A businessman’s social club with the intent to promote business and fellowship within St. Bernard Parish.” Regional fi gures such as Walter Boasso, Charles Ponstein, Anthony Fernandez Jr., Billy Showalter, Craig Taffaro Jr., and Dr. Bryan Bertucci have reigned as Royal Knights. www.knightsofnemesis.org
The 15th annual Knights of Nemesis roll on February 15, 2020, at 1:00 P.M. in St. Bernard Parish. Reigning as Goddess Nemesis XV is Pamela Krementz Bennett
and Nemesis Royal Knight XV is Guy McInnis. Both are presented aboard their own special royal fl oat. The Knights parade with 15 Mac Cantrell fl oats, and the Saturday afternoon parade features 50 units and 240 riders. Logo items include parade Nemesis t-shirts, which are sponsored by local businesses. Medallion beads, footballs, cups, fris-bees, foam swords, foam sports balls, and spears are also thrown.
