Instruction or examination

1. The copying is done by the student or the person giving instruction.

2. The copying is not done via a reprographic process.3. The source of the material is acknowledged.4. The instruction is for a non-commercial purpose.

What does non-commercial purposes mean? You can use unless you make money out of it.What does ‘source of the material acknowledged’? taking a note of who was the one who made it.

Michael is searching for images to add to her presentation about her favourite artist. She finds a useful image on Wikipedia that has this message. Can she use the image?

Fern is searching the internet for useful images. She does an image search and finds some she would like to use. Hana looks on the website and can see the owner’s email address.

What should her next steps be to avoid breaking copyright law?

Milly is searching for some music to accompany an art installation she has created.She searches online and finds a track she really likes. Milly wants to make sure she is not infringing copyright law. This message is attached to the webpage – can Sal use the music?

Assume everything on the internet is copyrightit was the moment it was created.To look for images that you can use legally go to Google Image Advanced Search - http://www.google.com/advanced_image_sea…and change the Usage Rights search. There's a special help feature there that will you decide what you want.

Public domain images are images you can do what you want with. There are loads of libraries of these - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:P…

A lot of images have creative commons licences. This means there is some sort of licence that goes along with them. For example, some you can use only for non-commercial use, some you just need be to specific about giving the creator credit for. One of the best search engines for these type of images is http://search.creativecommons.org/

Google advanced image search

I know these are okay to sue even modfie if I wished because I used Google advanced image search and made sure what I search was all fully fine to use.
