On the Edge: Lighting Concept

Overall effect at the beginning should be a gray, hopeless washed light with small, golden lights to represent the city below. This gray haze will represent Genes depressed outlook on life. The small golden lights are ideally a net of yellow Christmas lights that will be placed on the floor below the elevated actors. The small yellow lights represent the little pieces of hope that Sammy brings to both of them. Lights stay up throughout show, wash/brightness does not change.

Gene: Genes clothing should reflect that he is good-looking, well off, and just a little clueless. He came to this party a bit too dressed up. Gene would wear tamer colors, neutrals, nothing too out of the ordinary. He thinks his corduroys are really exciting. And, of course, Gene wouldnt try to woo a girl without his trusty skinny tie.

Sammy: Fierce and funky, Sammy uses her clothes to express herself in ways that she usually cant. Sammy wears bold colors (bright red shirt, bright red lipstick), tight skinny jeans, spiked heals, and a dramatic black jacket. Her clothing should reflect her confidence and desire to stick it to the status quo. Shes also a fan of large rings and attention-grabbing necklaces. (The ideal outfit is the image on the left, just with a bold red shirt instead of a gray shirt.)
