***Opening statement:
I want to start off congratulatingSouth Florida. They did a greatjob. They did an exceptional joboffensively. They were able tomove the ball and at the end ofthe day make enough plays towin it. I’m really proud of ourguys for the way that they bat-tled. I thought they competeduntil the very end and we justdidn’t make enough playsthroughout that ballgame tocome out on the winning end. Ihurt for them. I really love theguys that are in the locker roomand the coaches that I get towork with. I know our guys canrespond the right way here mov-ing forward this next week. Ialso want to take a moment toappreciate and thank all of themilitary and service veteransthat came out and were here tosupport us tonight. We are allvery grateful for all of their serv-ice and anything they do to helpprotect our country. We’re hon-ored to be able to play this gameand be apart of this great gamebecause of what they do for useach and every day. We’re work-ing hard to make you proud. It’sa shame we came up a little shorttoday. What did you see in the last
sequence?
SOCIAL MEDIA FANVOTING OPENS FOR
2017 PRO BOWLSome highlights:For the first time, fans may nowcast their vote through socialmedia by using #ProBowlVoteon Twitter, Facebook andInstagram ---- All-Stars to be Announced onPro Bowl Selection Show
You know, we were unable tofinish up. I thought we did agood job of moving the balldown. We had a couple ofopportunities in the end zonethat we didn’t capitalize on. Iknow we had an end of game sit-uation and it was going to betight. We just didn’t get it done.
Did you guys think aboutrunning it in either the secondor third down opportunities?
The second and third calls wereboth run-option plays and theywere stacked in the box. We tookthe one-on-one and we just cameup a little short. Season-high in rushing yardstonight, is that a credit to the
offensive line? I think it’s a credit to all of thoseguys, tight ends, receivers, blocking. I thought it was ourbest performance, being able torun the football and we estab-lished the line of scrimmage. Wewere able to get some move-ment. Backs were running hard, receivers were blocking hard. Iwas pleased to see that and con-tinue to see growth. The one
turnover. Anytime you turn theball over, that will cost you. Ithought our guys played hard. That’s a good team that weplayed. You have to give themcredit. It’s unfortunate that youcome up short.
Talk about the defense, howmuch was it what you did and
how Flowers is just hard toguard?
There were a bunch of plays outthere. You had people out ofplace, missed tackles. That guyhas freakish abilities. We hadhim on the touchdown play, thelast touchdown. Numerous playswe had someone there on himand he finds a way to escape andget out. He’s done that to a lot ofpeople. That doesn’t make it anybetter for it to happen against us.We have two conference gamesleft. I know this team and I knowhow they are going to respond. We have a great group of seniorsthat we’re working to finish for.We also have a great group offreshmen that we are working tofinish for. This is about our pro-gram and where we are going.Every man in that locker room isaccountable to what we do andwhere we’re going as a team. Itold them after the game. I amproud of them for how they play.We just have to continue to growand when you’re in those type ofgames, it’s going to come downto a handful of plays. We didn’tget it done.
Did you anticipate a gamelike this, a high scoring gamecoming down to the last series
of the game?I knew it was going to be a 60-minute game. I was proud of ourguys. They jumped out. Theystarted fast, 14-0. Our guys did-
n’t have any panic, no fingerpointing. We just went to work.We came back, we were able togain the lead throughout thegame. The score to tie it up late, and then be able to move the ballall the way down, I think itshows a lot of the heart of theguys that we have. Once again,we got ourselves in a position inthe end and we have to be able tofinish. We didn’t get it.
Anthony MillerTalk about the game
It was a hard-fought game, I’mproud of my team for fighting. We just didn’t come out on top. Talk about why you were upsetat the end of the game. I have faith in my teammates
and that they’ll make a play butI was upset because we took aloss and I just don’t like to lose. How about breaking a newrecord… I work hard and it has all paid
off. At the end of the day, itseems like I always break arecord when we lose, so I don’tknow how to feel about it.
On the last drive…I felt like we were on their heels, the momentum was swingingour way, we had a great drivegoing we just didn’t finish. What was the team’s mentali-
ty after they scored the lasttouchdown?
The mentality was to justrespond. It was a hard-foughtgame that just went back-and-forth and back-and-forth and wejust didn’t come out like weshould have. The team moving forward
Tomorrow is back to work. We’re going to be at the com-plex tomorrow and we needeveryone to come on out with
their head on straight and notworry about this loss because wehave another game next week. Curtis Akins
What was it about Flowersthat makes him tough to
defend? He has good vision. Of all the
guys we have played this year, Ithink he has the best vision. Heactually didn’t throw the ballthat well tonight from my pointof view but running, he read thedefense quite well.
Patrick Taylor On the toughloss…
It definitely hurts to lose gameslike these, in crunch time. It iswhat is, we just have to movepast it and respond for nextweek. It was just an excitinggame really. We knew going inon offense that we had to make aplay and they knew on their sideof the ball they had to make aplay and they did. They are agood team. The success running the ball
Our offensive line were justmonsters out there tonight. Ourwide receivers and tight endswere blocking on the perimeter. They were just getting it done upfront.
USF Head Coach WillieTaggart Opening statement … Great win on the road. Reallyexcited about the way our guysplayed. I talked to them beforethe game, and really all week, and told them it was going to bea dogfight against Memphis. Wetold them there was going to besome adversity throughout thisgame … last time we were on
