On the way to help with a better life through education Packed Literacy Boxes full of equipment for 25 pupils on the start of a journey half way around the world to help children to a better life. Our logistic partners at SJ Removals in Plymouth overseen by James, the man with the van, load the boxes onto pallets for Langdons at Ivy Bridge and on their way to Folkestone and our partners Operation Sunshine for shipment in the middle of August to Zambia. Another shipment will be making it's way to Mansfield in September and we will be working with National Police Aid Convoys (NPAC) placing our Literacy Boxes in one of their containers destined once again for Zambia. Thanks to all involved since it's quite a logistic exercise to ensure low cost and safe shipment and of course this would not be possible without our donors. Thank you.

FROM THIS

TO THIS

Thanks to the Rotary Club of Tameside, who held a book sale a few weeks ago, and raised enough to supply a Literacy Box. A Box helps to bring education to the very happy kids in Zambia and costs just £325 delivered. Our supporters and donors use all sorts of unusual and imaginative ways of raising funds to supply a Literacy Box. To us at Literacy in a Box we find it amazing and encouraging that school children in this country are highly motivated to help

their peers in other countries who are very poor and quite often destitute. Providing such facilities with Literacy Boxes does help the children to a better life through education. If you would like to help us please get in touch through contacts below in this Newsletter.

INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 8, 2019.

We welcome you to take part in whatever way you can to help the children we are in contact with to a better life through

education.

THANKS INNER WHEEL Members of the Inner Wheel Club of Roborough, Plymouth have taken Literacy in a Box under their wing as a charity they will support during the year. They will be using their efforts and talents to raise funds to supply boxes but even more than that they have been packing for us. Recently they spent a day packing 24 boxes destined for 8 schools in Lusaka, Zambia. It's support like this that really helps us. Raising funds is one thing, and important, but helping in the community is in another league...thank you.

THIS IS WHAT WE LIKE TO SEE A Literacy Box raising a smile. We get a lot of feedback concerning the reception and use of the boxes and you will be pleased to know that working with one of our partner organisations Raise a Smile enables Literacy Boxes to be distributed to schools in and around the remote area of Mfuwe, the centre of the game reserve area of the Eastern Province of Zambia. Jenny, a local game lodge owner and local volunteer for the charity Raise a Smile, runs reading programmes in three local schools and has helped each school set up a library with books supplied by one of our logistics partners, National Police Aid Convoys (NPAC). Classes in these schools are over 100, but when Jenny takes out half a class for reading exercises, she leaves the class with a better teacher pupil ratio for the remainder of its lesson time - a win for all. Having seen her reading programmes first hand last September and spoken with the headteachers in these schools whilst there, we felt we would like to support 'her' schools, so we sent Literacy Boxes to Mfuwe, Kukumbi, Uyoba and Chiutika and Jenny kindly ensured they all ended up in the right locations.

It is once again thanks to you our donors and supporters that help us with the success of these initiatives and as you can see from the smiles it is all very much worth it.

Thank you for your support. The need for Literacy Boxes is as great as ever, the children we help and the trustees would ask for your

continued support. If you wish to donate please visit: literacyboxtrust.org.uk
