10 June 2020
Dear Parents / Carers
I hope you are well. As strange as it sounds, we are in our final half term of the school year. With six weeks to go, we would ordinarily have been celebrating our various end of year events. Instead, we are partially open, taking lots of measures to keep the school as safe as possible and our efforts to provide a quality education for all our students continue.
In line with the updated guidance from the government, we will be inviting more students into school from Monday 15th June. This will comprise of Year 10 students (up to 25% of the full cohort) as well as continuing to supplement the provision for our children of key workers and vulnerable students who have already been attending. As per the guidance, the selected students will receive some face-to-face teaching to supplement the remote education they have been receiving.
To ensure we have taken every possible measure to make our school safe for wider opening, we have carried out a thorough risk assessment, which you can find on the school website (https://www.cumberlandcst.org/coronavirus-0). I have summarised some of these measures for your information on the attached poster.
If your child is in Year 10 and is selected to come into school from 15th June, you will receive a phone call this week. You do not need to do anything in the meantime. It is up to you if you would like your child to attend school. If your child is already attending school, you do not need to do anything.
We are coming up to our fourth month of school closures for the majority of students and this will inevitably impact on our students' learning. We will work hard to continue to provide our planned curriculum to your child via online lessons and the DPR. As of yet, we do not know what will become of exams for Y10 students. It could be that they are still required to sit their exams in Year 11, or like our current Year 11s, exams may be cancelled and teachers may be required to provide a judgement based on the evidence they have of their students. Whilst we can only speculate at this point, it is in your child's best interests to engage with the learning being provided. Therefore, I urge you to continue to encourage them to be on time to lessons, make sure they are submitting the work that is set for them and reassure them that they need not worry about their learning if they complete the work being set for them. Please let us know if you need support with this.
Finally, I am keen to receive your feedback on the quality of the online provision your child is receiving. Please complete the survey below if you have not done it already so we can look at what is working well and how best to improve our provision going forward.

Once again, I thank you for your continued efforts in supporting your child's education at home. Whilst no one could predict this end to the school year, I am not surprised by the dedication and commitment of the parents of our students.
Yours sincerely
Omar Deria Head of School
