God graciously gives us the opportunity for a fresh start based on a covenant relationship with Him. In Genesis 8 and 9, God says to Noah and his extensive pet collection some of the same things He said first to Adam who oversaw the first generations of animals. God was making everything new after pouring out His wrath and He still does the same thing today. Because God’s sense of justice is perfect, because He wins in the end, and because He is loving, there is an end to God’s wrath in the earthly sense. Though we are sinful, God loves us. Though we may forsake God, He will always keep His promises to us. Ask your student if their group covered the “Cambrian Explosion,” and if so, what they learned. Then, ask your student what his or her own personal flood is—what is his or her own overwhelming deluge and storm? While students who have never faced true tragedy are likely to over-dramatize the severity of what constitutes a flood or storm in their lives, the emotions that they feel about their storms and floods are quite real. After they have shared, remind them that God restores things that were once broken. CENTRAL TRUTH God graciously gives us the opportunity for a fresh start based on a covenant relationship with Him. FALL 2015 | SESSION 5

Waters Receded Genesis 8:15–9:1, 11-16

ONE CONVERSATION

Parents: This session focused on the fresh start given to humanity after the flood, but it introduced your student to some Christian apologetics as well.

CENTRAL TRUTHGod graciously gives us the opportunity for a fresh start based on a covenant relationship with Him.

PERSONAL CHALLENGE ❯ Dwell: God’s sense of justice is perfect. He wins in the end and He is loving. Because of this, we

know there is an end to God’s wrath in the earthly sense. He pours out His wrath because He is a loving and protective Father. He restores His creation afterward because He is a loving and protective Father. Though we are sinful, God loves us. Though we may forsake God, He will always

keep His promises. He was King over the flood (Ps. 29:10) and He is King today.

❯ Memorize: Genesis 9:16

❯ Pray: Commit to God that you will return to worshiping Him if this aspect of your walk with Him has suffered lately. Proclaim to God your belief in His promises. Thank Him for washing you clean and thank Him for just being the Restorer that He is. Make a promise to God that you will be faithful through the floods in your life.
