Ellos son nuestra fantasía, los admiramos y queremos sus películas.

Cuando conocemos a uno de estos personajes a través de la pantalla y nos impacta desde el minuto cero, ya no podemos dejar de conocerlo. Esto me sucedió siendo un niño, algunos actores como el incombustible Bruce Lee o mi pistolero favorito, Clint Eastwood, están presentes siempre en mi mente.

En este apartado os muestro aquellos personajes que en algún momento de mi vida me impactaron y se quedaron para siempre en mi retina.

They are our fantasy. We admire them and love their films.

When we see one of these characters through the screen and they impress us from the first moment, we can’t help knowing more about them. That happened to me when I was a child. Some actors like the great Bruce Lee or my favourite gunman, Clint Eastwood, are always present in my mind.

In this chapter I show you those characters that, in some moments of my life, impressed me and remained in my retina forever.

Ella es la dulzura, el carácter, la inocencia, todo ello con un punto de rebeldía. Un icono para todo artista, ¿quién no ha tenido la tentación de retratar su rostro? ¡Yo, siempre! Desde bien niño, con tan solo ocho años de edad, veía sobre la mesa de trabajo de mi padre fotografías de ella, las cuales utilizaba como documentación para realizar sus cómics, llamados por aquel entonces historietas de sentimental. Todos los que manejamos el lápiz la hemos retratado en alguna de sus interpretaciones más conocidas, como Desayuno con diamantes o Vacaciones en Roma, y es por eso que no es de extrañar que siempre encontremos carteles decorativos de esta gran actriz. Ella me recuerda mucho a una mujer muy importante en mi vida: sus facciones, su mirada, y ese punto rebelde que se esconde pero que ella siempre tiene presente. Como en una película de Hepburn, la conocí en unos grandes almacenes en fechas navideñas. El carácter y la belleza está dentro de cada mujer, solo la tenemos que buscar.

She is the sweetness, the character, the innocence, all that with a bit of rebellion. She is an icon for all artists. Who has not ever had the temptation of making a portrait of her face? I have always had it. When I was a child, being only 8 years old, I could see pictures of her on my father’s desk and he used them as documentation to make his comics, which were called at that time emotional stories. All of us who use a pencil have portrayed her in any of her most famous interpretations, like in Breakfast at Tiffany’s or Roman Holiday, and therefore it is not something strange to find decorative posters of this great actress everywhere. She reminds me to a very important woman in my life: her face features, her way of looking and that bit of rebellion that is hidden but it is always present in her. Like in a film with Hepburn, I met her in a big shopping centre at Christmas holidays. The character and beauty is inside every woman, we just have to look for it.

A este cartel, el cual preside el Sr. Bond, lo titulo Fantasía. Fue creado para dar imagen a un festival de cine y coleccionismo, en el que representamos todo aquello que buen friki ama: las películas y series míticas de todos los tiempos. Una composición que recoge pedazos de nuestra vida plasmados en la pantalla que todos conocemos. Puedo decir que disfruté mucho componiendo y dando pinceladas a cada una de esas películas o series de televisión que dejaron huella en mí. Gracias, Pedro T., por provocar esta maravillosa ilustración.

This movie poster, presided by Mr Bond, is called Fantasy. It was created to be the image of a festival of cinema and collecting, in which we represent everything a good geek loves: the films and mythic series of all times. It is a composition that gathers chunks of our lives captured in the screen that we all know. I can say that I enjoyed very much composing and drawing lines of every one of those films or TV series that left a mark on me. Thanks, Pedro T., for inspiring this wonderful illustration.

Recordando uno de los formatos de la época, doy con esta ilustración, el homenaje a una de las películas que marcaron el género de terror. Un cartel que, personalmente, me dio una gran satisfacción al verlo totalmente terminado con sus títulos de crédito. Jugando con el claroscuro y un solo tono de color en el sol de Egipto que asoma tras las pirámides, conseguimos esa aureola de misticismo propia de una película de terror de los años 30.

When I was remembering one of the formats of those times, I found this illustration, which is a tribute to one of the films that marked the horror genre. It is a movie poster that, personally, gave me a great satisfaction when I saw it completely finished with the credits. Playing with the chiaroscuro and just one colour range in the Egyptian sun that rises behind the pyramids, we get that aura of mysticism typical of a horror film from the 30s.

La elaboración de una ilustración siempre la realizo mediante un estudio previo de bocetos, luces y colores, sin dejarnos su composición. Una buena pintura es importante pero si su composición es la correcta ganaremos el cien por cien del éxito.

Desde pequeño siempre me llamaron la atención los carteles de cine y la pintura americana como la de Norman Rockwell, McGuinnis, Frank McCarthy, Drew Struzan, Amsel, o el creativo Bob Peak; ellos aportaron al cine una nueva forma de promocionar una película con sus pinceladas.

Cuando me planteo una de mis ilustraciones intento visualizarla tal y como será terminada, algo que se consigue visionado muchos otros artistas, los cuales te aportan nuevas ideas y trazos.

The process of making an illustration is always done by means of a previous study of sketches, lights and colours, not leaving the whole composition aside. Having a good illustration is important but if we have the correct composition we will get the hundred per cent of success.

Since I was a child I was attracted by movie posters and American illustration such as the ones by Norman Rockwell, McGuinnis, Frank McCarthy, Drew Struzan, Amsel or the creative Bob Peak. With their strokes, they contributed to the world of cinema with a new way of promoting a film.

When I am considering one of my illustrations I try to visualize it how it is going to be finished. That is something you can get looking at many other artists, who provide us new ideas and lines.

Sobre una masa verde que domina la imagen en su totalidad, y con tan solo trazos de lápiz negro y blanco, esbozamos y presentamos a los dos personajes principales de esta serie que en la década de los 80 recibíamos como un boom. Se podría decir que supuso el verdadero principio del interés por trasladar aventuras y personajes del mundo del cómic a la pantalla, obteniendo con ello aclamadas series que a día de hoy se consideran de culto.

Over a green mass of colour that prevails in the whole image, and just with black and white pencil lines, we sketch and present the two main characters of this series that we received in the 80s as a boom. We could say that this meant the beginning of the interest for transferring the characters and their adventures from the world of comic books to the screen, thus obtaining acclaimed adaptations that are currently considered as cult series.
