ONE TWO THREE AUTOMATION WITH NEW PARKER AUTOMATION CONTROLLER The Operations Manager of a small but growing contract manufacturer of cosmetics approached us at a Utah based manufacturing event to inquire about automating his lines. He had previously met with a competitor and was not happy with what they presented. The manufacturer produces cosmetic products for a variety of companies. The OM was given the task to “lean out” the process at minimal cost. Prior to automation, the company had 14 people working on the line. The tasks needing automating was a pick and place bottle line to move bottles from one conveyor to a second conveyor where a code is printed onto the bottle, and a cap was placed on the bottle. Our solution performed both tasks and allowed the contract manufacturer to decrease personnel from 14 to 7 workers. Our system features the new EtherCAT based Parker Automation Controller (PAC), with Parker HMI, servo drives, motors, actuators and pneumatics In-Position Technologies integrated these Parker components to deliver a turnkey solution to the customer. The customer is so pleased with the project that they plan to use the project to launch an in house automation team to duplicate this design to build numerous other lines, allowing for them to implement highly cost effective automation. Future projects will include the use of vision systems to inspect print quality and 2D barcodes. To date, the pick and place line we built has capped more than a million bottles and paid for itself in less 45 days. Now that’s ROI! AUTOMATION AS EASY AS 123 45 DAY PAYBACK
