ONEDRIVE FOR BUSINESS New Sync Client with Selective Sync – How to Guide

Hi Folks, today I thought of talking about the enhanced version of OneDrive for Business client that

Microsoft released couple of months back.

This client is enhanced compared to the previous version of OneDrive for Business. It is now possible for

us to use selective sync in the new client as opposed to the older client which I think is a good option. Also

the new client is much more improved with regards to syncing issues customers or users faced on the

older OneDrive for business client.

Let us see how we can configure the new OneDrive for Business client in Windows 10.

First, click on “Start” and type “OneDrive” and you should see the results as shown below in Fig 1.

Once you select “OneDrive” as shown above in Fig1, it will let you enter your Office 365 username in the

OneDrive for Business setup dialog box which will pop up next as shown below in Fig2.

On the above dialog box, you will have to put your Office365 user name and click on “Sign in” which will

take you to another screen which will then ask you for your Office365 user credentials as shown in Fig3.

Once you click on “Sign in”, it will give you an option for you to configure the OneDrive for Business sync

location on to your local computer.

I personally prefer to give this location a customized path in my local C drive or D drive as it will be easier

for me to locate it but you also can leave it to install on to the default path.

If you want to give it a customized path, then click on “change location” as shown in below Fig4 and

browse to the location you would like to save the OneDrive content.

I have selected the path, C:/OneDrive after creating a folder named “OneDrive” on C: drive as shown

below in Fig5.

Once the location is selected to sync your files, it will take you to the next screen where you would be able

to select if to Sync All the Files and Folders or to do a Selective Sync. After selecting whatever the option

you prefer, we can click on “Next” as shown in Fig6.

account. While it is being synced, you can see the files and folders which are been synced after clicking on

“Open My OneDrive” button as shown in Fig7 below.

All the files and folders that are synced will now appear on the OneDrive folder in your PC as shown below

on Fig8.

above then you will have to “Right-Click” on the OneDrive icon on your task bar and select “Settings” from

the OneDrive menu as shown below in Fig9.

That will bring up the settings dialog box for OneDrive where we will be able to tweak some of its settings.

The settings dialog box will have four tabs as described below:

Settings: This will be a general setting to configure OneDrive to Start Automatically when the

Windows Starts. By default, this option is enabled and you can uncheck the check box if you don’t

want it to start it with your Windows (Shown in Fig 10).

Account: This section will have three sections under it namely: (Shown in Fig11)

Choose Folders to Sync: This is where you can go and specify which folders or files needs to

be synced by OneDrive if you want to do changes later after syncing files during the initial

setup (Shown by section 1).

Unlink OneDrive: You can select this option if you no longer want to sync your OneDrive to

your local computer (Shown by section 2).

Add an account: This section can be used to add an account to OneDrive. For an example

OneDrive personal account or another business account (Shown by section 3).

Office: This section can be used to set settings related to collaboration using OneDrive such as

using the Office 2016 to open the files Synced to OneDrive and using the files for Co Authoring

purposes using Office 2016 features (Shown in Fig 12).

About: This section will give some technical details about OneDrive built version, privacy and

some terms of use etc. as shown in Fig13.
