Future ForestersAims:

• Strengthen the pipeline of skilled people entering forestry, to ensure we have a workforce that can meet the challenges of the 21st century.

• Bring more woods into management on a large scale will require considerable expansion and up-skilling of the workforce.

• Engage and enthuse people from all backgrounds to enter the forestry sector and support them through their learning and development.

Future ForestersProjects:

• Qualifications – RFS Certificate in Arboriculture, RFS Certificate in Forestry and the RFS Certificate in Silviculture.

• Studentships – The RFS works in partnership with UK Universities to provide summer studentships.

• Bursaries – The RFS offers three bursaries to support forestry learning; Randle Travel Bursary, Spencer Bursary & Yorkshire Bursary.

• Awards – The RFS presents awards to both students and education providers. This includes the Silky Fox Handsaw Awards and a range of best student awards.

• Projects – In 2014 the RFS launched Conifers for Colleges, a national project supported by the sector and land-based colleges to provide students with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills relating to current and future conifer species.

• Forestry and Arboriculture Careers Guide – Launched September 2015 ,to support prospective and current students and employees with online careers information.
