Step 1 - Login
Type the following link - http://learning.deakincollege.edu.au
Login using:
Username Password
– Student ID (look in your letter of offer)– Date of Birth (yyyymmdd)
(example: if your date of birth is 6 January 1991, type 19910106)
(If you are locked-out for any reason, try again in 15 mins.)
Step 2
Click on the ‘Account Administration’ tab at the top of the screen.
Step 3 - Click on the ‘Update my Profile’ tile.
The Personal Details tab will be highlighted. Click ‘Edit’ (see black arrow below), complete/update the details and Save.
You will need to click on all the tabs at the top of the screen (see red arrows below) and add or update your information.
Once you have completed/updated information in all the tabs and saved, close the screen and click on the ‘Enrolment & Registration’ tile.

First, check that the trimester displayed is correct, then ensure that your program is selected (see red arrows).

NOTE:
You will now be directed to a ‘Class Times’ page to choose your modules and class times.
- Domestic students can choose from one and up to four modules.
- International students must choose their modules based on their study load:
a) Minimum - 75%, must choose 3 modules
b) Minimum - 100%, must choose 4 modules

Ensure that you register in the ‘Free Modules’ (see red arrow below) before you register in your Core/Optional modules.
Then, click the ‘+’ sign to add a module. (see blue arrow below)

Step 4 - Register your Classes
A pop-up window will appear and you will be required to choose a class time for the lecture and prac-tical/tutorial for the module that you had selected (click on the row to add or change classes).
Note: You will have to do this for each module that you select.
Once you have selected the class time your modules will be highlighted and a ‘-’ sign will be displayed next to the module. (see example below)
When all your modules are selected, click ‘Next’. This button will not be available (greyed out) if your registration is incomplete.
Step 5
You will now be directed to the Finance screen. Check that the modules you have selected and the payment is correct. For Domestic students, a sponsor (‘Fee-help’) charge will be shown.
You can then review your registration (next screen) before exiting.
If this button is green, click on it to proceed to the next step.
If the button is not available (greyed out), please click on “Enrolment Help” at the bottom of the screen for assistance.
Check your timetable by clicking on the Class Timetable tile on the Home screen
Kindly ensure that you complete the following tasks, after your registration:
Step 1 - English Diagnostic Activity (This exercise is required and all new students must attempt it)
What is it? • A 30-minute online exercise to show you (and us) what you might need help with. • This is not assessing your English language ability, but it is an exercise using various academic skills designed for both native English speakers and English as an alternate language (EAL) speakers. • There are 26 questions, which are mostly multiple choice.
Step 2 - Deakin University username and password
You will need to obtain a Deakin University password to use the computers in the computer labs. How to activate a Deakin University Username and Password ?

Course Duration
The duration of the Diploma course is three trimesters (12 months). There is an option, however, to fast track the course and complete it in two trimesters (8 months).
Teaching Methods
Instruction for all units is classroom based. Generally, four hours of class contact per week are allocated to each unit.
Assessment Assessment for all units is ongoing and continuous consisting of tests, assignments and case study analysis. Most units have a final two-hour examination.

MAA103 Accounting for Decision Making
The unit covers: the impact of accounting in society; business planning and budgets for management decisions; classification, analysis and summarisation of business transactions; preparation of classified accounting reports; techniques to analyse and interpret financial statements.
Assessment: 40% internal, 60% final examination
MAF101 Fundamentals of Finance
This unit aims to introduce students to finance and provide an introductory knowledge of the Australian financial system. The unit will discuss some of the fundamental financial concepts such as the time value of money and the concepts of risk and return. Students will learn to apply these fundamental concepts in the areas of investments in equity and debt. These issues will be discussed in the local and international context.
Assessment: 50% internal, 50% final examination
MLC101 Law for Commerce
The unit provides the underlying concepts and purpose of Law for Commerce and the Australian legal system. The unit covers the law relating to contract, consumer protection, business entities and relationships, and torts with a focus on negligence.

MMM132 Management
The aim of this unit is to provide students with a critical understanding of the intellectual foundations of the study of management. The unit will provide the opportunity to analyse how the solutions to management ‘problems’ have developed under different conditions throughout the nineteenth and twentieth century. The unit also explores how management practice influences, and is influenced by, the external environment. This will involve examining how managerial action impacts on and is shaped by the environment, through a consideration of, ethics, social responsibility, and the social and cultural context of management.
Assessment: 50% internal, 50% final examination
MIS171 Business Analytics
The digital revolution has changed the practice of business. Data to support business decisions (data collected by business systems as well as through the Internet and Social Media such as Facebook and twitter) are growing exponentially and becoming increasingly difficult to understand and use. Business Analytics is the broad use of quantitative reasoning skills in business decision making. Business Analytics helps managers to solve complex business problems, improve business performance, anticipate and plan for change while managing and balancing risks. This unit will provide students with the analytical knowledge and skills to explore data to find patterns and relationships in data; assess uncertainty and risk of business decisions; evaluate decisions; and forecast and predict trends.

MMK101 Marketing Fundamentals
Marketing focuses on the creativity involved in the marketing process, ranging from understanding consumer needs to designing customer-driven integrated marketing strategies using the marketing mix. It is the intention to build the knowledge on the marketing planning process and how this is successfully implemented in market and computer-oriented organisations that include profit-oriented companies, government and the not-for-profit sector.
Assessment: 60% internal, 40% final examination
MAE101 Economic Principles
This unit addresses the theory of competitive markets, and the need for and effects of government intervention. This includes a consideration of the nature of economics, consumer behaviour and market demand, the firm – its technology and costs, market structures, markets for input, public goods and externalities. This unit also provides the microeconomic framework required to develop an appreciation and understanding of the pricing and output by firms and their implications for economic efficiency.
Assessment: 50% internal, 50% final examination
MWL101 Professional Insight
The Personal Insight unit is a compulsory unit offered in Deakin’s Bachelor of Commerce program and is also available to students from other programs and faculties within the University. The University recognises the importance of students gaining professional identity skills to enable them to understand them through Personal Insight. The unit aims to broaden students’ self-awareness and understanding of the sophistication their career preparedness and means of communication necessary to be successful in both their business and personal lives.

Why is it important? Throughout your time at Deakin College, you will be expected to participate in class discussions and
presentations, listen and take notes in lectures, and research and write assignments and exams. These are
all skills that require a good understanding of academic English. Improving your language skills will help you
to get better grades in assignments and exams.
The results The results will not affect your grades at Deakin College and do not appear on your academic transcript.
They are only used to identify areas for help and improvement. You will get emails throughout the trimester
with suggestions of ways to improve your academic English.

How to activate a Deakin University Username and Password
If on campus: you can log into any of the computers using: Username: Deakin Password: Deakin
And click on “New Student”
Or if you are using your own computer:

Enter your details in the fields highlighted in yellow.
Your Student ID number is your Deakin College ID (e.g. TOMBRET1201) which can be found on your letter of offer.

Enter your postcode - this should be the postcode of the address in Melbourne you entered into the student portal where you will be living while you are studying. It is a 4 figure number.
If you have an issue where Deakin can’t identify you, please try leaving the postcode box blank. If this doesn’t work try the Burwood postcode, 3125.
Click “CONTINUE”.
If successful, you’ll be presented with a new username. Please select the option for the system to automatically generate a password for you. You can change the password later. The system will continue setting up your email account. Wait for this to be created, then take down all of the details.
Please note that you will not be able to change your password for approximately one hour after activating your account.
If unsuccessful, please check the details you have entered. There should be a message that the course code, birthdate or postcode do not match and that you must re-enter the details.
If you receive a message that the student ID could not be found, firstly please check there are no spaces before or after the student ID.
If the student ID still cannot be found please ask a staff member at reception (Level 4, Building LA) for help when you are in the college.
