• There are several modules that can use by students:– Assignment– Chats– Forums, Example– Glossaries– Quizzes, Example– Resources, Example

• Lecturer can do:• Announcement• Post resources • Online quiz

Problems of manually work

• To get teaching material like lecturer notes, assignments, tutorial materials from lecturer directly is easy, but if the large number of student want to get lecturer notes from lecturer, the problems raised out.

• Some lecturer make announcement on notice board in front of their room, if there is no student see it, then the problem comes out.

Useful of LMS• By using LMS, lecturer just need to post all the materials

and resources onto website and the students just need to login LMS to download all the lecturer’s notes.

• Lecturer also can post the announcement onto website, then student who login LMS will see it and inform the others.

CHALLENGE OF LMS• Free wireless (UMS-public) is not stable and not

strength if using among large number of students at the same time. – Lag when downloading

• Wireless not provided in whole UMS, which means hostel cannot access free internet access(UMS-public). – Hostel wireless have to pay– Not every block can detect wireless– Students need to bring laptop go school or

library for online.• Students not active on forum functionality on LMS. – Public– Face-to-face discussion may better

Current Problems…?From the survey form, some SmartUMS’s problems been listed out as below:

Uploading & Downloading

Based on research, some interviewers disclose that their lecturer told them he or she found out it is difficult for them to upload the lecture notes or others related information.Even they upload the notes successfully but their student can’t download the notes probably.So is it upload files’ format problem or system’s problem or either the user themselves’ problem…?

Usage

Not all the lecturer feel appriciate to use the SmartUMS for their teaching purpose.Why some lecturer use other online social community like yahoo group rather than SmartUMS? Do they not familiar with SmartUMS or other online social community have the better features them?

FeaturesSmartUMS’s features have its own ‘charming’. For an example: Forum feature, as we know that forum section take an important character in learning progress. But SmartUMS’s forum’s area been limited in UMS.Even the forum’s topic is successful but the topic been limited for UMS lecturer or stundent only. Other features in SmartUMS like quiz section, linkage section also characteristics for SmartUMS. Eventhough, quiz section is another characteristc for SmartUMS but sometime there have problem too. For an example, while student done the first page question and click the ‘Next Page’ button to answer the following questions but the system would not allow and submit the students’ half-done answer . So these kind of problems who should responesible for?

UpdateBased on the research, lecturer disclose that they even can’t find the course code or name inside the SmartUMS so they can’t do anything but just use other online social community for teaching purpose.This mean that the system didn’t concluded all the course code or name in the system so that’s why many lecturer force to use other online social community.

SolutionThere are too many features in SmartUMS but are they all

really will be used by the system users? Are those unused features will slow down the system’s performance?

How about add-in online chat corner like Facebook to improve the characteristic of the system. When user log in the system they can know who is in online status through the chat list.

Another solution is improve the system so the system can assign all the subjects that a student take for particular semester automadically. This action not only will improve the system’s performance but also increase its popularity within UMS.

Solution (cont…) Is it possible to re-coding the system so the system can

compatible with all kind of file’s format for solving the uploading / downloading problem.

Do some repairs to the quiz section to slove the quiz’s answering problems.
