Online Tools for Group ProjectsPart 3 – Wikis
Watch this short video about wikis.
As you watch, think about these questions:
How are wikis different from blogs?
Which would be better for working together on a group project? Why?
What are the special features of a wiki?
Then, go on to the next slide.

WIKIS

As mentioned in the video and the previous diagram, wikis are great because they:•allow more than one person to edit each page.•allow many people to add to and edit the same content. •allow you to easily connect between pages inside the wiki.
However, when it comes to wikis vs. blogs, “better” depends on the project.
WIKIS
Other great wiki features:•expandable structure – you can add as many pages as you need. •not LINEAR - unlike blogs, you can jump around easily from page to page or section to section.
WIKIS
More wiki features not mentioned in the video:•allow folders as well as pages - great for more complex projects with lots of sections. •store FILES – upload .doc, .xls, .ppt, .jpg, etc.
•a great organizer for your entire academic portfolio. 1 folder=1 class
•pages for notes, assignments•upload back-ups of your
assignments•link to online resources Image from http://freshome.com

Even if you’re an experienced wiki user, there are some additional considerations you should be aware of when using the tool for class.
When you’re done, visit http://pbworks.com and set up an account. Then, go on to Part 4.
