We have been fortunate again this year to be in a position to be able to purchase some new interactive panels to replace our older Interactive White Boards in the year 1 & 2 classrooms. These were installed yesterday, the students and staff are enjoying having the technology to enhance student engagement and learning. Thank you to everyone who wore their denim in support of Jeans for Genes Day yesterday. We are proud to have raised over $900 in support of children with genetic disorders. Best wishes to the year 5 and 6 students representing the school today at the Great Southern Netball Carnival in Katanning and to our students who will run at the State Cross Country next Friday in Perth. (results next Newsletter) I hope everyone enjoyed some long overdue sunshine today and has a good weekend. Good luck to our students involved in local sporting teams and hobbies this weekend.

Please, could you let us know…?
We are already planning how we can best meet the needs of our students in 2022. It is vital that our calculation of the number of students for 2022 is accurate because this has a huge impact on our budget. You can help us by letting us know if your children won’t be returning at the beginning of 2022.

Term 3 has started with a lot of rain! Even though it has been difficult things have happened in the garden. A big thankyou to Cathy and Murray Brooker for their work in the holidays to prune the fruit trees and the Rosemary hedge. The hedge was planted on the 100-year anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli in 2014. Cuttings were grown and planted by the students.
This term sees a change in Kitchen Garden sessions with Room 4/Year 4 coming on board and participating in garden and cooking lessons also. We would like to take the opportunity to say a big thank you to the parents and grandparents that came and helped us in both the garden and cooking lessons. Without your help we could not present the best learning experiences possible and I know the students enjoyed your help and company. We look forward to working with you in future sessions and welcoming new helpers.
Students have been in the garden between showers and have done some weeding, pruning and planting of beetroot and lettuce seedlings. Pea seeds have been planted in seedling trays and Bok Choy is next. Our first cooking sessions for the term have happened with students doing a great job. Year 4 students made Silverbeet [from the garden] with Chick Peas and Currants. They enjoyed both the cooking and eating of their results with tortillas. A big thank you to the mums that helped, we really appreciated it especially as it was Room 4’s first cooking session. Such a great effort from all involved.
We have harvested the Rhubarb for use later in the term, moving the plants to a better area, and cleaned up around the garden. Kale will be harvested for Kale Chips and hopefully the weather will be a little kinder over the next few weeks to allow us to really enjoy the garden.
Regards
Cathy Brooker and Sue Joensson

A huge thank you to the P&C, who generously donated $1000 to the music budget at the start of the year. We have used this to purchase a class set of ukuleles which the Year 4-6 students have shown a lot of enthusiasm in learning.

Administering Medication at School
If your child requires staff at school to administer any medications temporarily, such as antibiotics, you must complete the schools “Permission to Administer Medications” form.
Students are NOT to administer medications themselves unless it is a part of a documented plan by the Doctor.
You can do this by contacting the front office and we can print one out for you to complete on the spot or downloading the form from our website by clicking on the link here: Medication Form
NB: Staff cannot administer out of date medications.

Be Prepared
In the event of COVID Lockdown
We need to be ready to continue learning remotely if our school is closed due to a COVID Lockdown.
Your child’s program will be accessible via Connect. Connect is the Department of Education WA online learning platform which is totally free and very safe. You can login into Connect via the internet on any device or download the Connect Now app from Google Play or the Apple App Store.
Check out the short video clip on Connect at https://vimeo.com/connectwa/welcome
You will need a P for parent number and the password you have set up. Many of you have been using your Connect logins to access your child’s report. If you can’t find your P number or have forgotten your password, use the blue “Forgot your user name or password?’ link on the login screen.
We are encouraging all parents to become familiar with logging into Connect and accessing classes. When you log in you will see:
DPS Parent Space – This is where we will post whole school information.
A class or year group page for each of your children — If we transition to remote learning, you will find in the Notices section, an overview of your child’s program for the week. In the Content section you will find the instructions and resources for your child’s program.
