DATES Thurs 23rd Feb—P&C Meeting, Staff Room 7.15pm—9.15pm Thurs 2nd Feb—Kinder start school Mon 13th Feb—CBA Banking sign up morning Thurs 23rd Feb—Swimming Carnival Welcome Back Welcome back to another exciting year of quality teaching and personalised learning at Killarney Vale Public School. I would like to publically recognise Mrs Rachael Raccani-Hewitt who, through a merit selection process, has been successful in gaining a promotion to the level of Assistant Principal at Killarney Vale Public School. I would also like to welcome our new team members: Lauren Stevenson, Emma Bath, Madaleine Roseby, Elif Isgit and Emma Sharp. The Week 1 Staff Development Day last Friday saw all of the KVPS team come together for a day of in depth professional learning and planning for 2017. We focused on a variety of new policies and programs, completed some online learning modules and finished off the day with Stage Meetings. This week we welcomed 16 new students in grades 1-6 and on Thursday we will be welcoming our new kindergarten students. It has been fantastic to see all of our students arriving safely to start the 2017 school year. I have been highly impressed with the STAR manners our students are presenting both in and out of the classroom. Keep it up KV. Our Kindergarten teachers have been very impressed with our new students as they have completed their Best Start Assessments. What a great way to start Kindergarten by having some one-on-one time with some of our friendly staff. Due to unexpected rises in student numbers we have now secured our 17 th class for 2017, but we have unfortunately had to go into a holding pattern to determine if we will form 17 or 18 classes for the school year. At the end of 2016, parents were advised through the newsletter and on our Facebook feed that we were seeking enrolments to assist with 2017 planning purposes. Successfully planning classes can be a tricky concept as we attempt to make the best possible social and educational choices for your children. Staff evaluate educational and wellbeing data and consider many other factors when creating classes. Although we try to accommodate parent requests, there are times when we are unable to move students due to classes being full. We ask our community to trust that we have the best intentions of our students in mind when making these decisions. If issues arise we suggest having an open conversation with your child’s teacher to ensure a smooth start to the school year. As classes get settled more information will start arriving home. More information will be coming home soon. Changes to the KVPS Facebook Page Due to recent issues and concerns with our school Facebook feed, the Executive Team have had to make some changes to the way we promote and publish information to our wonderful community. It has always been our intention to share information in a variety of formats: Facebook, Skoolbag, KVPS Website and our weekly online newsletter to provide access and up-to-date relevant events. We are unable to meet the online demands for additional information and feel that these important discussions about school procedures, policies and general information about programs are best handled in formal conversations with the relevant staff members who have the correct knowledge to assist with the inquiry. These inquiries are best to be made in person or over the phone. Keeping this in mind from this point on, staff have been directed not to respond to Facebook feed comments or questions and if they feel the comments or questions are not in the best interest of the school, they will be deleted. We understand that this may cause some undue stress for busy parents / community members but, as a school, it is our experience that conversations in person are the best way to achieve accurate communication. The KVPS Facebook feed was originally designed to promote good news stories and allow access for our parents to see inside our classrooms on a more frequent basis. We will continue with this as our primary focus. Our Skoolbag App will continue to deliver updates and important information about upcoming events.

Making appointments to see staff At this point in time, staff are very busy with a range of items, setting up their classes and getting to know their new students. Parents are reminded that all staff have specific communication times that they have set aside for parent teacher meetings. If you require a meeting, please put your concerns, addressed to the staff member in writing and ask for a scheduled meeting. All staff will endeavour to get back to you within a short timeframe. Morning Supervision Please note that staff do not commence duty until 8:35 of a morning. Students should not arrive at school until supervision is available. This is a welfare and safety issue. Please note the Cubby House is able to provide before and after school care services if required. Please contact the Cubby House directly on: 1300 553 583 or www.cubbycc.com.au School Car Parks Please note due to Workplace, Health and Safety regulations only staff and permitted vehicles are to enter the school car parks. It has been noted that parents/community members have been witnessed using both the Henricks Road and Wyong Road Car Parks. The safety of our students is paramount. Please be careful when in and around the school. Your understanding in this matter is appreciated. School Entry As of 9:15am daily, all perimeter gates except the main gate adjacent to the administration building will be locked. These gates will remain locked for the duration of the day and will be reopened at approximately 2:45pm prior to the home bell. Any visitors wishing to access the site prior to 2:45pm will need to sign in via the front office. Please note the main driveway gate on Henricks Road will be closed from 8:30am daily. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter. Have a great week Killarney Vale! Mr Moxon
