  • 2. Solution Overview High Level Solution Description: The Mothers Milk App is a mobile app that runs on a mobile device such as an iPOD/iPhone/iPAD (with a peripheral hardware like the Linea Pro Scanner attached to the device) that helps nurses with the verification, labeling for storing and dispensing of mothers milk to babies in the NICU unit. Healthcare/Business problem addressed: In NICU units at hospitals, nurses have to provide labels to mothers for storage of their mothers milk, they then receive orders to feed babies at certain times, this is all a manual process. Our solution aims to digitize, verify and provide bedside labeling to mothers milk being dispensed for babies at the NICU. The application developed addresses the following x category: Applications that improve management of high cost chronic diseases. Innovative approaches to addressing value-based care imperatives.A Connected Both Community of Health | Copyright 2011 Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Inc. 2
  • 3. Usability and Design Old workflow: - Nurse would receive order of which baby to feed at certain time - Nurse would go to fridge to get milk for baby that needs to be fed - Nurse scans baby wristband and matches milk to baby visually based on MRN, ECD, and last name - If its a match, finds other nurse to use ID badge for second verification (also visually checks I believe) - Feeds baby upon second verification, information logged (not sure how) New Workflow using our App -Our workflow is done by the mobile app, no second verification needed, by scanning wristband and scanning bottle it will detect if the records match or dont match, and all relevant information logged into backend for viewing. -The nurse is also able to print labels to give to the mother at bedside for labeling of the milk bottles. The apps connects to Zebra printers via bluetooth or via wireless network.A Connected Community of Health | Copyright 2011 Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Inc. 3

  • 11. Why this solution be selected! This solution should be selected because it provides nurses, physicians with a mobile device that replaces all the expensive scanners, pagers and workstation on wheels that a hospital has to spend a lot of capital on. With a mobile device and peripheral they can verify and label at bedside effectively, quickly and immediately. With more apps that can be provided for different workflows within the hospital environment, this solutions presents the ideal mobile solution to take Allscripts customers to the cutting edge of bedside care at a fraction of the cost.App and Device Features Intuitive interface requires minimum training Can integrate to multiple EMR backends Device is able to scan, print via bluetooth to portable printers by Zebra Scalable platformA Connected Community of Health | Copyright 2011 Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Inc. 11
