Open call for residency in Cal Gras for the development of creative projects.

Cal Gras is a house in Avinyó (el Bages); a village of 2.200 inhabitants situated in the centre of Catalonia between Manresa and Vic in a rural area one hour from Barcelona.The centre consists of various workspaces and rooms that encourage the development of creative, experimental and philosophical projects. It is a place that offers temporary and communal housing with various bedrooms, a kitchen and living room. We enable and encourage the interaction with other residents and the integration in the town and surroundings facilitating cultural exchange and dialogue. This year we collaborate with the magazine Nómade, arte y pensamiento, a virtual magazine that explores and experiments art and that functions as a meeting point between artists, curators and theorists from different parts of the world.

BASES1. Objective : Cal Gras launches a call for the development of creative projects through a free stay in the centre.2. Theme. Art as a tool to analyze the territory.3. Target: artists and creative collectives of all types of visual arts that wish to produce their project in Cal Gras, with priority for collaborative projects in relation with the surroundings and public space. Two of these projects could choose to be guided by a curator and afterwards be published in the magazine Nómade arte y pensamiento. “Artist as archaeologist” is the proposed theme for the selection of the magazine’s publication. More information can be found on www.calgras.cat.4. Duration: between 7 and 30 days, from July to October 2014. The two artists selected by Nómade should be able to publish in September.5. Terms and conditions:a. The centre offers a free stay in an individual or shared room (for groups), with free use of common areas (kit-chen, dining room, living room, etc.).b. Work spaces, meeting rooms, library, wifi. For more information around the place, please visit the centre’s website. c. The centre facilitates contact with the surroundings as well as other services and material needed for the projects.d. Transport and food are not included.e. Permission to publish the two selected projects in the Nómade magazine.f. Willingness to show the developed project in Cal Gras or surroundings (through a lecture, exhibition, act, workshop etc.)g. The two projects selected for Nómade will work together with an invited curator that will work with the artists, providing them reflection during the working process.

6. Visualization. Willingness to show the project during a festival at the end of October will be much appreciated. This would be through a lecture, exhibition, act, installation, workshop etc.7. Application: interested artists can send their project to CAL GRAS – C/ Francesc Macià, 1 – 08279 Avinyó (Barcelona), or serveis@calgras.cat; mentioning “Residencia+name of the artist” in the subject line. The following documentation should be attached:a. One document with : i.Contact details of the project leader (photocopy of ID or passport) ii. Number of participants in the residence; with first and last name (up to a maximum of 5) iii. Proposal of the desired dates of residence and alternative dates. iv. Space needed.b. The creative project to develop that also includes a proposal of a public activity in the centre or surroundings (open day, conference, act, exhibition, workshop, etc.) presented on a maximum of 3 sheets.c. Short curriculum (1 sheet maximum) and the artist’s portfolio (through link or 3 attached files maximum).

8. Selection and calendar:a. Applications can be send until the 29th of June 2014.b. The final resolution of the call will be notified by e-mail the 4th of July 2014. Once the resolution has been communicated to the interested parties, it will be posted online.c. The selection will be done by the centre’s team : one member of the Cal Gras Cultural Assiocia-tion, one member of Nómade and an external curator.

REGULATION ACCEPTANCEThe participation in this call implies the acceptance of the aforementioned bases and their resolu-tion, as well as changes that might occur outside of the Cal Gras team’s responsibility.
