Discover over 9 picturesque acres of gardens, woodland and riverside walks at Birdland in the beautiful village of Bourton-on-the-Water.

Meet exotic and rare birds from around the world. Flamingos, pelicans, cranes, emus, and waterfowl live in riverside habitats with colourful parrots, magical owls, exotic pheasants, hornbills, touracos and many more inhabiting over 50 aviaries.

Every day is different at Birdland and there is always something new for young minds to discover.

Meet Snowy Owls from the Arctic and penguins from the Antarctic. Discover the different adaptations these creatureshave made to live in extreme conditions.

Marshmouth Nature Reserve provides an environment to participate in a plant hunting exercise, identifying and naming a variety of common wild and garden plants, including deciduous and evergreen trees. Local species may also be spotted and the Birdland Education leader can take the children on a tour of the reserve – with hides / bird feeding stations / pond dipping enabling first hand opportunities to spot a wide variety of indigenous wildlife.

Combining a visit to the Nature Reserve and the exotic bird garden and indoor amphibian zone enables children to compare and contrast species and their adaptations for survival.

A visit to Birdland provides a rich source of material for developing observation skills and inspiring creativity. Linking a science based trip with an opportunity to observe and draw some of the creatures helps make the most of the day. Creating sketches of some of the habitats or birds spotted helps to record

observations and means they can be reviewed and revisited in the class-room for follow-up studies.

Birdland is a fun school visit as well as being educational. On a summer term day out – discover a world of birds, enjoy a meet the keeper session and watch the penguins being fed.

The indoor discovery zone is home to all kinds of egg laying creatures including snakes, tropical tortoises, lizards and even poisonous frogs!

Brand new is the Birdland Hatchery and Nursery where you can see the behind the scenes work up close and meet a variety of new-born chicks.

The Birdland Educational Team can be booked to give a hands on presentation showing different creatures from birds to amphibians and can explain how they have adapted to survive.

Enjoy interactive sessions so you can get up close to a variety of creatures from owls and other birds / snakes and lizards.

Explore & Discover

Explore, identify and classify plants and animals in different habitats. The special quiz trail takes children on a tour of Birdland where they will be able to spot birds from very different environments and learn about individual characteristics that are essential to keep creatures alive and healthy. This will enable comparison from local woodland to the rainforest.
