Service providers can start with an economical compactsolution and expand, by cost-effective increments, to verylarge systems when capacity demand increases. This canbe done using the same commercial off-the-shelf equipment, resulting in a cost-effective evolution.

Communications links, processing capacity, routing rulesand any new logical entity can be added to an existingconfiguration without any service disruption. Consequently, solutions based on the HP OpenCall Universal SignalingPlatform can easily adapt to varying user requirements.

Because they can transparently add new functionality anddynamically expand their existing base infrastructure, service providers experience a cost-effective, trouble-freeupgrade path without the expense of forklift upgrades.

Sizing of any telecom solutions is also straightforward: theplatforms overall performance is directly proportional tothe number of servers. The highly modular N+1 architectureallows the solution to scale according to user needs. Addprocessing power and network connectivity when needed, and get the full value of truly linear scalability for apredictable return on investment.

High availabilityThe HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platform enableshigh availability of telecommunications services. Serviceproviders enjoy optimized uptime, a key asset in protectingtheir revenue and market share.

Like other products in the HP OpenCall signaling suite, the HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platform offers atrue fault-tolerant model providing high reliability at alllevels: hardware architecture, software resiliency anddeployment model.

The platforms functions are distributed both logically andphysically in the HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platform

cluster. This unique design enables high availability: There is no single point of failure. In the event of a component failure, all traffic is

automatically redistributed across all servers in theplatform cluster.

All data about the network topology and all platformentities is managed real time by an in-memorydatabase replicated on each server. A consistent viewof the network is always available; this helps prevedata loss and enables automatic recovery.

Failure of any platform function is handled efficientlno service disruption. In par ticular: Component failure:Fail-over to functioning compo

is automatic; further traffic is then processed by osubsystems of the platform. After the problem is s

the subsystem is integrated back into the platform interrupting the traffic. Similarly, new subsystems added as capacity requirements increase.

Link failure:the platforms front-end (IP-STG) remessages onto a backup link even if it is locatedanother server in the platform. A linkset can be shby several IP-STG servers; the linkset is always upif a server fails.

IP failure:Under normal operation, the IP trafficshared between redundant logical and physical elemFor example, if one of the two Ethernet buses failstraffic is routed on to the remaining Ethernet; whe

If a problem occurs at one of the sites, the overall seavailability is maintained. The reliability and robusthe HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platform havdeveloped and tested in collaboration with the worldmost demanding telecom operators.

Enhanced user experienceHP OpenCall signaling platforms offer service prova satisfying experience. Service providers can easilyconfidently deploy systems using HP OpenCalls advtechnology, which complies with industry standardssimplifies operations. This is all backed by HPs wclass services and support.

The combination of HP OpenCall technology andsupport gives service providers the confidence andability to consolidate, cut costs and expand, where tneed it, when they need it.

Simplified development and deploymentThe HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platform providesall the functionality necessary for networks and applica-tions to rapidly and easily develop and deploy services. In particular: The distributed multi-tiered architecture simplifies system

deployment and evolution. The application level is isolatedfrom the network connectivity so it is not necessary torecompile or test the application when the front-end evolves.Likewise, no changes to the back-end are required whenthe front-end is enriched with new features.

The HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platform handlesintelligent routing, filtering, and edge-STP capabilities.

With such unique, patented technological innovations,HP delivers more, and better serves the development oftelecommunications services.

With the HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platform, companies can focus their resources on service develop-ment, and reap the benefits of a simplified deployment

These operations and more (for example, addition of newfunctionality) are transparently handled online, with nodisruption to services.

In line with this simplicity, the HP OpenCall UniversalSignaling Platforms licensing scheme permits to easilyupgrade your platform capacity with the licenses thatmatch its evolution. With this pay-as-you-grow approach, you purchase just the license that most closely correspondsyour needs, not more.

Freedom to deploy on separate geographiesThe HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platforms architecturebrings greater freedom to your deployment configurationscenarios and provisioning: Applications running the same or different services can

be deployed on different locations. Applications can be deployed on different locations

than that of the network connectivity. Also, network connectivity of the same or different types

can be deployed on separate locations.

The HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platforms advancedprovisioning, routing and load-sharing mechanisms facilitateapplication distribution and geographical dispersion.

Mergers and acquisitions in the telecom industry haveresulted in market concentration around fewer, large serviceproviders. These service providers need to optimize theirnetwork infrastructure to increase operational efficiency.By achieving a simplified, consolidated view of mixednetworks, good service delivery to subscribers and efficientdisaster recovery design for business continuity, the HPOpenCall Universal Signaling Platforms geographicaldispersion addresses some of the main challenges serviceproviders are facing.Serviceability is not tied to a single equipment, technologyor site. This reduces risks by lowering geographical andhardware dependency, and radically broadens yourdeployment choices. For example, service bureaus that deliver prepaid, location based, emergency services and messaging foroperators can manage the application resources on HPssignaling platform back-end, which is 100 percent IT-based. The platforms front-end centralizes and isolatesaccess to multiple telecom networks with a flexibleinfrastructure.

Easy upgrades for existing customersThe HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platform isbuilt on top of HP OpenCall IN7 and HP OpenCallSS7, and offers functional and architectural compatibilitywith both of these renowned products. This brings significantbenefits to companies using these products. For example,

they can expand the t raffic capacity of their curresignaling platforms or easily evolve to new-genernetworks, while retaining their existing infrastructurtranslates into higher reusability and a greater level investment protection.

The installed base is easily upgraded; customers canassured that they will experience a secure migrationas their network evolves.

Because they can safely leverage existing platforms, sproviders can take full advantage of painless capacitincrease or access to new connectivity. They also enshorter time-to-market for introduction of new serv
