Context
Building blocks of an open, distributed social web
• Core Identity Plumbing
• OpenID, OAuth, WRAP, webfinger, XRD, LRDD, host-meta
• Profiles & Social Graph
• SREG, AX, Portable Contacts
• Content Sharing & Aggregation
• RSS, ATOM, Activity Streams, MediaRSS, PubSubHubbub, Salmon

So where are we at?
• Lots more useful attributes being shared
• Validated e-mail addresses, OAuth tokens, profile photos, etc.
• Not much “lifecycle management”
• Updated data being sent to RPs
• Profile / graph data flowing back from RPs
• Foundations of a “virtuous cycle of social discovery”
• Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, AOL
• Not (yet) much evidence of how well it’s working, but it’s still early days
• Some overlap in technologies, but mainly complementary building blocks
• Still evolving rapidly, but safe to play now, so come on in!
