Please read the operating instruc-tions before using the tumble dryerfor the first time. They contain impor-tant information about the safety, useand maintenance of the machine. This way you will avoid the risk ofaccidents and damage to the ma-chine.

Keep these operating instructions ina safe place and ensure that newusers are familiar with the content.Pass them on to any future owner ofthe machine.

Correct UseThe tumble dryer is only intendedfor drying fabrics which have been

washed in a water solution, marked onthe manufacturer’s wash care label asbeing suitable for tumble drying.Any other applications may be danger-ous. The manufacturer is not liable fordamage resulting from improper use oroperation.

Do not let small children play with themachine or its controls. Supervise itsuse by the elderly or infirm.

Technical SafetyBefore setting up the machinecheck it for any externally visible

damage. Do not install or use a dam-aged machine.

Before connecting the machine, ensure that the connection data on

the data plate (fusing, voltage and fre-quency) matches the mains electricity

supply. If in any doubt, consult a quali-fied electrician.

The electrical safety of this ma-chine can only be guaranteed

when continuity is complete betweenthe appliance and an effective earthingsystem which complies with local andnational regulations. It is most importantthat this basic safety requirement isregularly tested by a qualifiedelectrican.

The manufacturer cannot be held re-sponsible for the consequences of aninadequate earthing system (e.g. elec-tric shock).

Do not connect the machine to themains electricity supply by an ex-

tension lead. Extension leads do notguarantee the required safety of themachine (e.g. danger or overheating).

The machine is built in accordancewith current safety requirements.

Unauthorized repairs could result in un-foreseen dangers for the user, for whichthe manufacturer cannot accept re-sponsibility. Repairs should only be un-dertaken by a Miele approved engi-neer.

Faulty components must only beexchanged for Miele original spare

parts. Only when these parts are fittedcan the safety standards of the ma-chine be guaranteed.

Warning and Safety Instructions

In the event of a fault or for clean-ing purposes, the machine is only

completely isolated from the electricitysupply either when:

– it is switched off at the mains or

– the mains fuse is withdrawn.

Adequate ventilation is essential, especially where another appli-

ance which also uses the room air (e.g.gas, oil or coal fired heater, continuousflow or other water heater), is installedin the same or an adjacent room. To en-sure safe operation, and to preventgases being given off by these appli-ances being drawn back into the room,an underpressure of 4 Pa is the maxi-mum permissible. Ventilation can bemaintained by air inlets which cannotbe blocked, in windows, doors and out-side wall vents, or by an automatic win-dow opening arrangement when thetumble dryer is switched on.If in any doubt, the advice of a compe-tent builder, or for gas, a "Corgi" regis-tered installer (in the UK) must besought.

Vented dryers must be installedwith a suitable venting system. If

the machine is not correctly ducted itwill draw damp exhaust air back intothe drum, increasing running time andenergy consumption quite consider-ably. If moist air is passed back into theroom this may lead to long-term dam-age of walls.

The exhaust air must not be ventedinto a chimney or vent flue which is

in use. Neither should it be connectedto ducting which ventilates rooms withfireplaces. It would be dangerous ifsmoke or exhaust fumes were drawnback into the room.

Always close the door after use. This way you will avoid the danger

of:

– anyone sitting or leaning on the door, which can cause the machine to tipup.

– children climbing onto or into thedryer or hiding things in it.

Do not install the machine in aroom where the temperature may

drop below freezing. At very cold tem-peratures the machine may be difficultto start. Laundry will not dry, and thesequence indicator light ~ rAnticrease/End will flash to indicate aproblem.

Warning and Safety Instructions

5

Page 6: Operating and Installation Instructions for Tumble Dryer T · PDF file · 2014-05-23Operating and Installation Instructions for Tumble Dryer T 5206 ... foam rubber or rub-ber like

There is a danger of fire with fab-rics which:

– contain rubber, foam rubber or rub-ber like materials

– have been treated with inflammablecleaning agents

– have been splashed with hair lac-quer, hair spray, nail varnish removeror similar substances

– which contain padding or fillings(e.g. pillows, jackets). If these weredamaged the filling could get outwith the risk of igniting in the dryer.

Avoid contact of stainless steel sur-faces (front, lid, casing) with liquid

cleaning and disinfecting agents whichcontain chlorine or sodiumhypochlorite. These agents can have acorrosive effect on stainless steel. Ag-gressive vapours containing chlorinebleach can also be corrosive. Do notstore open containers or these agentsnear the machine.

Using AccessoriesAccessory parts may only be fittedwhen expressly approved by Miele.

If other parts are used, guarantee, per-formance and product liability claimsmay be invalidated.

Disposal of your Old MachineBefore discarding an old machineunplug it and render the plug use-

less. Cut off the cable directly behindthe appliance to prevent misuse.

Disposal of the PackingMaterialThe transport and protective packinghas been selected from materials whichare environmentally friendly for disposaland can normally be recycled.

Rather than just throwing these materi-als away, please ensure they are of-fered for recycling.

Disposal of Your Old MachineOld machines contain materials whichcan be reclaimed or recycled. Pleasecontact your dealer, your local wastecollection centre or scrap merchantabout potential recycling schemes.

Ensure that the machine presents nodanger to children while being storedfor disposal.

Energy Saving Tips^ Make sure that your laundry is thor-

oughly spun before drying. You willsave up to 30% energy and time iflaundry is spun at 1200 rpm insteadof at 600 rpm.

^ Load according to the optimumamount of washing recommended forthe program being used.Underloading is uneconomical. Over-loading gives a poorer quality of dry-ing and may cause unnecessarycreasing.

^ To save energy and time:

– make sure the room in which thedryer is located is well ventilated.

– Make sure the lint filter is clean be-fore using the dryer.

^ The vent ducting should be as short, straight and smooth as possible. Ex-pelled air is slowed down in the ventduct due to friction against the innerwalls of the ducting, therefore theshorter the duct and the smoother theinner walls, the less friction occurswhich in turns saves drying time andenergy costs.

Wash Care Labels

Before drying check the dryingsymbol on the wash care label.

Significance of symbols:

q= Dry at normal temperature

r= Dry at low temperature

s= Do not tumble dry

If no symbol is featured dry at your ownrisk applying the following principles:

Cottons and minimum iron itemsshould be dried at a normal tempera-ture using the appropriate programsetting.

Delicate fabrics with the followingwash care label r, e.g. acrylics shouldbe dried at a low temperature.

The following fabrics shouldnot be dried in a tumble dryer:Woollens and wool blendsthese fabrics tend to become mattedand shrink.

Items filled with downthe fine fabric interior tends to shrink, depending on the quality involved.

Pure linenshould only be machine dried if speci-fied as suitable by the manufacturer onthe wash care label, as the surface ofthe fabric may otherwise tend toroughen.

General NotesWoven and loopkit materials (e.g.t -shirts, knitted garments) tend toshrink to varying extents depending ontheir quality. This tendency is exagger-ated by over-drying. When purchasingwoven materials, it is advisable to taketheir shrinkage properties into account.

Starched laundry can be dried in thetumble dryer. To achieve the usual fin-ish, double the amount of starch shouldbe used.

Minimum iron fabrics should be spunbriefly at the end of their washprogram, or spun for 10 to 30 sec-onds if hand washed before they aredried. Some fabrics tend to crease ifoverdried. These items should be givenonly a short period in the dryer, andtaken out slightly damp. Do not use theB Minimum iron - G Normal+program for these fabrics.

Minimum iron shirts in 100% cottonmay crease during tumble drying de-pending on the quality of the weave. These should be dried using the Handiron I setting. In extreme cases dripdry on a coat hanger.

Minimum iron fabrics tend to creasemore the greater the load. This isparticulary the case with delicate fab-rics.The load should be reduced to 2 kg orif necessary to 1.5 kg.

New dark coloured garments shouldbe dried separately from light colouredgarments to avoid the danger ofcolours running.

Leveling the Machine

The machine must be perfectly level toensure safe and proper installation.

^ The screw feet can be adjusted tocompensate for any unevenness inthe floor.

Take into consideration the space re-quired by the vent duct when calculat-ing the distance between the machineand a wall or other appliances etc. tothe sides or rear of the machine.

A ventilation gap of 10 mm must bemaintained between the base of themachine and the floor. This must notbe blocked by sealing strips, deeppile carpet etc., as otherwise therewill be insufficient flow of cool air forthe machine to function correctly.

The machine must not be built un-der.

Coin mechanism / TimecounterThis dryer can be fitted with a coinmechanism.*

It can also be connected to an existingtime counter using a special connectioncable*.

Do not use devices to turn the machineoff automatically, (e.g. automatic tim-ers).

The tumble dryer can be combined witha Miele washing machine in awasher-dryer stack. For this purposethe appropriate stacking kit * is re-quired.

* These items are all available from yourMiele Dealer or the Miele ProfessionalSales Dept.

Fitting the Exhaust DuctingThe moist air produced during dryinghas to be vented to the outside.

The dryer must only be operatedwhen it is correctly fitted with ex-haust ducting.

The exhaust connection may bemade:

– to the rear of the machine (the ma-chine is supplied as standard withthis connection point open) or

– to the left of the machine.

The side exhaust connection has acover cap.

Exhaust Connection to the Sideof the Machine

Disconnect the machine from themains electricity supply.

^ Remove the cover cap.

^ Insert a thin screwdriver into the sliton the retaining hook and press thehook gently upwards.

^ At the same time turn the cover capanti-clockwise.

Vent Socket

^ In the same way remove the ventsocket from the rear vent outlet.

^ Secure into the side outlet by turningclockwise.

^ Close the rear outlet with the covercap.

Avoid:

– very long exhaust systems

– too many corners

– tight corners.

These reduce efficiency and increasetime and energy consumption.

The following materials are suitablefor the exhaust ducting:

– galvanized steel

– plastic ducting

– flexible ducting.

Note that all ducting must be of asuitable heat resistant specification.

Install the exhaust ducting so thatthe expelled exhaust air cannot besucked into the machine again.

Standard accessories include anadapter for the exhaust ducting:

Application:

In installations where conditions do notallow the machine to be permanentlyconnected to a ducting system.

Purpose:

The adapter enables rapid, simple con-nection or disconnection of the exhaustducting.

Installation:

The adapter is fitted to the non-con-nected end of the vent duct.

ImportantConnection must not be made to aflue used by gas or solid fuel boilersor heaters.

Calculating the Duct LengthThe shortest passage for the expelledair is preferable, to ensure the tumbledryer functions most efficiently. Ex-pelled air is slowed down in the ventduct due to friction against the innerwalls of the duct, therefore the shorterthe duct and the smoother the innerwalls, the less friction occurs.

An elbow or bend creates more frictionthan a straight duct. An additional ductlength factor should therefore be calcu-lated for each elbow or bend (see Table1). This factor expresses the resistanceof the bend in terms of a straight lengthof duct.

The additional length factor is thenadded to the actual duct length to givethe effective total duct length.

A larger duct diameter also helps to re-duce friction. The duct diameter shouldtherefore increase with increasing ductlength.

To calculate the effective duct length:

^ Measure the actual duct length.

^ Establish the number of elbows orbends necessary, noting the type ofbend, angle and radius involved (seeTable I).

^ Add the additional length factor asspecified in Table I to the actual ductlength to give the effective ductlength.

^ The appropriate duct length can thenbe taken from Table II.

NoteDrying times and energy consumptionremain unaltered for Ø100 mm ductingup to a total length of 15 metres. Lon-ger ducting may lead to slight in-creases in drying times and energyconsumption, but does not impair thefunction of the machine, if the neces-sary duct diameter is adhered to (seeTable II).

Flexible ducting has been used for thefollowing example. See Table I for addi-tional duct length factors for other typesof ducting.

Example:

Side connection . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1.00 mLength (L) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.50 mLower radius R = 400 mm . . . . . 0.50 mHeight (H) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2,00 mUpper radius R = 200 mm . . . . . 0.50 mWall duct withlouvred vent . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.60 m

10.10 m

Result:

A duct diameter of 100 mm is ade-quate, since the overall length is lessthan the 15 metres specified in Table II.
