1.4 Safety basics Please keep these important information! They contain most important information about safety and handling of the animal clipper and the charger station. The incorrect usage of the charger station and the animal clipper may be hazardous! Please observe the following measures fo r accident protection before putting the appliance into operation : 1.4.1 Safety regulations Put the plug only into sockets that have been installed in accordance with the regulations. Defective electric installations may lead to an electric shock or a short-circuit. Sockets should be equipped with a residual current circuit-breaker. Observe the regulations in force in your country. Only carry out maintenance and cleaning activities when the plug is disconnected. Never leave the machine unattended while the plug is still in the socket. Animals may only be clipped when children are kept at a distance. Always store the clipping machine at a dry and safe place, not accessible to children. 1.4.2 Precautions for the charger station

1. Always use the specified charger station. 2. Always use the charger under the voltage specified on its nameplate. 3. The charger and/or the battery-pack may never be exposed to direct sunlight. 4. The battery-pack may never be loaded under damp ambient conditions. 5. Always charge the battery-pack at ambient temperatures of + 5° to

max. + 40° centigrades. Temperatures of less than 5 ° C will result in dangerous over-charging. The battery-pack cannot be charged at temperatures of more than + 40° C.

6. Avoid continous charging. Allow a 15 minutes break after each charging operation.

7. Never disassemble the charger-station. 8. Using an exhausted battery-pack will damage the charger station. 9. Make sure that no objects enter into the ventilation slots of the charger

housing. This could cause electric shock or damage the charger. 1.4.3 Precautions for the battery-pack

1. Never disassemble the rechargeable battery-packs. 2. Never use battery-pack other than specified. 3. The battery-pack may never be charged from an electric generator or any

other DC powered supply source. 4. Battery-packs must be kept in dry and clean places. 5. Do not allow foreign matter to enter the socket or adaptor for connecting the

battery- pack. 6. Never short-circuit the rechargeable battery-pack by burning. Due to

excessive heat the battery could explode. 7. An exhausted battery-pack may be returned to the place of purchase. A

battery-pack is exhausted when the battery life (directly after charging)

Page 5: OPERATING INSTRUCTION ANIMAL CLIPPER...concerning the electromagnetic compatibility. 1.4.6 Maintenance and inspection obligations ... udder clipping and as completion to shearing machines

Page 5

becomes too short for practical use. Do never dispose of an exhausted battery-pack by any other means.

1.4.4 General safety measures

1. Use the animal clipper with rechargeable battery-pack only for the purpose described in the instructions for use.

2. Never try to clip wet animals. 3. Make sure that children have never access to areas where trimming or

clipping is taking place. 4. Make sure that you never use a damaged machine. If your machine is faulty

have it inspected, checked and repaired by a specialist before using it again. 5. Never trim or clip near gases or explosives. 6. Never try to trim or clip with blunt or broken cutters and combs (clipping-

plates). 7. At any time avoid any contact with the moving cutter (upper plate). 8. Clipper and charger have to be stored in clean and dry environment, always

out of the reach of children.

1.4.5 Radiation On the basis of tests according to the harmonised European standards of the EC-directive, the charger station meets the basic safety requirements concerning the electromagnetic compatibility. 1.4.6 Maintenance and inspection obligations Never use a damaged appliance. If a fault is detected in the housing or the electric cord, always have it repaired exclusively by an authorised expert. 1.4.7 Sound-pressure level Sound-pressure level during operation is 72 dB(A). 1.4.8 Vibration The clipping machine does not exceed a vibration value of 2.5 m/s². 1.4.9 Other risks Should there occur other risks or damages during operation that are not directly connected with animal clipping, please inform us. This also goes for technical shortcomings that may lead to dangerous situations.

2.5 Equipment 1 clipping machine with clipping head 1 set of clipper blades (mounted) 1 Battery-Pack (mounted) 1 Battery-Charger 1 spanner - with 4 mm 1 bottle of special-oil 1 operating instruction 1 case for transport and storing Options: Various different clipper blades 3 PUTTING INTO OPERATION 3.1 Charging the Battery-Pack Your new battery-pack is not charged when supplied. Please charge it before use — as shown on picture 3. When charging a brand new battery-pack or recharging a battery-pack which has not been in use for some time it may occure that it does not accept a full charge. This is normal due to the technology of your battery-pack; it is no fault. The battery-pack can be fully charged again after it has been completely discharged several times. ALWAYS DISCHARGE THE BATTERY-PACK FULLY BEFORE RECH ARGING. THE BATTERY-PACK IS FULLY DISCHARGED, WHEN THE CLIP PER MOTOR SLOWS IN A REALLY NOTICEABLE WAY. Before using the animal clipper, charge the battery-pack as follows:

1. Connect the power cord of the charger station to an AC outlet supplying the voltage indicated on the charger’s nameplate.

2. Connect the rechargeable battery to the charger station by use of the adaptor. The charging process starts immediately, the red control light will be lit. After a period of 60 – 65 minutes (at 20°C) th e battery-pack is fully charged. The control lamp illuminates green, when the battery is fully charged.

3. Firmly hold the adaptor and pull out the battery. 4. Make sure that the charger’s power cord is disconnected from the AC outlet.

The charger is furnished with a resetting thermal cutout. A temperature-controlled switch disconnects the power supply if an inadmissible temperature is reached. This can be recognized immediately by the LED control light dying down. Overheating can be caused by direct sunlight, excessively high mains voltage, soiled ventilation slots or continuous charging of several batteries, one after the other. As soon as the charger has cooled down to a normal operating temperature it switches on again automatically. For cooling down the charger disconnect the plug from the power supply.

Page 8: OPERATING INSTRUCTION ANIMAL CLIPPER...concerning the electromagnetic compatibility. 1.4.6 Maintenance and inspection obligations ... udder clipping and as completion to shearing machines

Page 8

In case the battery-pack becomes heated (sunlight o. s.) the control light of the charger does not necessarily light up. If this happens first let the battery-pack cool down and then start charging. If the control light still does not light up there might be a foreign body in the battery compartment which has to be removed. If this is not the case you can consider a malfunction of the charger or the battery-pack; have these parts checked by an authorised service centre. 3.2 Function of control lamps on Battery-Charger

3.3 Notes to recharge the battery block

1. Before inserting or removing the battery block switch off the cordless shearing machine.

2. For removing the battery block push away the metal clamp at the bottom of the shearing machine and pull the battery block out of the machine (picture 1 and 2).

3. In order to re-insert the battery block push the battery block into the casing of the shearing machine. Close the metal clamp carefully (until it clicks home). (picture 2)

4. Before starting to work always control whether the metal clamp is being fixed so that the battery block does not come off by mistake.

5. Never apply force to insert the battery block into the casing of the machine. The battery should be plugged in easily otherwise there is a fault.

3.4 Correct adjustment of clipper blades Every clipper leaving the factory is set up for cli pping! adjustment of clipper blades – Maintenance 4.3 – the correct adjustment of clipper blades During clipping The pressure applied by the new clipping system is considerably lower compared to previously delivered animal clippers. Attention should be paid that clipper blades are not fastened too tightly. During clipping activities, the tension of the clipper blades may have to be adjusted from time to time by max. ¼ rotation.

Page 9

3.5 Correct lubrication of the clipping head Lack of lubrication is the most common cause of unsatisfactory clipping results and overheating of the clipping machine. For best clipping results as well as for enhancing life time of the clipping blades and the machine, apply a thin oil film on the blades. Other moving parts of the clipping head should also be well lubricated. Drop oil on the clipping blades and in the oil opening of the clipping head approx. every 10 minutes (picture 5). Only use our special oil for animal clippers. Use i n no case diesel oil ! Clipping blades and clipping head should be sufficiently lubricated approx. every 10 minutes while clipping so that they won’t run dry. 4 MAINTENANCE Before cleaning absolutely remove the battery block [accumulator) 4.1 Cleaning After use, remove any oil from the machine, from the clipping head and from the clipping blades by means of a dry cloth as well as all wool rests may be removed by means of a dry brush. Next, slightly oil all parts in order to prevent rust formation. Notice that even the slightest rust may considerably effect clipping results or even make it impossible. 4.2 Mounting of the clipping blades The set of blades always consists of a bottom blade and an upper blade. For clipping, both ground (sharpened) surfaces (picture 9) must rest on each other. The blades are mounted as follows: Loosen the adjustment screw (picture 10) and put the machine on a hard surface, the screws of the bottom blade in the upward position (picture 8). Loosen the screws and remove both used blades. Make sure that the new blades are clean. Pay special attention to the fact that the cutting surfaces must be free from dirt and hair. Put the upper blade on the tapered pins of the carrier (picture 6) and push the bottom blade (picture 7) between the loosened screws (picture 8) up to the rear buffer. Fasten the screws of the bottom blade by means of the enclosed spanner. Turn around the machine, so that the adjustment screw lies on the top. Check whether both tapered pins of the carrier are fitted in both openings of the upper blade. Fasten the adjustment screw (picture 4) until a slight resistance is felt.

Page 10

4.3 Correct adjustment of the clipper blades Adjust the clipper blades as follows: When machine is switched off: Please make sure that the taper pins of the carrier fit into the holes of the upper blade (picture 4). Unscrew the counter nut anti-clockwise and tighten the adjusting screw clockwise until the first sensible resistance. Now start up the animal clipper. Loosen the adjusting screw (picture 10-1.) until the clipping blades are nearly under no pressure and run freely (motor speed is increasing). Now tighten the adjusting screw slowly (picture 4-2.) until you can hear a reduction of the motor rotation speed and a resistance is felt while tightening the adjusting screw. Now tighten the adjusting screw by max. a quarter turn and screw tightly the counter nut (picture 10-2.). Start clipping. In case cut is not yet satisfactory, slightly adjust the tension of the clipping blades. In case clipping has been started while adjusting screw was not tightened sufficiently, hair might have accumulated between the clipping blades. This may influence a positive clipping result or even make clipping impossible. Should this case occur, clipping blades have to be disassembled, cleaned and assembled again. 4.4 Grinding the shearing blades A correct grinding (re-sharpening) of the clipper blades can only be done by means of a special machine and by an expert. Only work with sharp blades. Defective blades with broken teeth or blunt edges must be replaced. 4.5 Storage of the clipping machine In between use or in between clipping seasons, the Clipping machine – which has been thoroughly cleaned and oiled – must be stored in the accompanying case in a dry place not accessible for children. If you suspect that fluids have entered the machine, do not use it! It may lead to electric shock or short- circuit. Send the machine for inspection to your suppliers or an authorised agent.
