ForewordDear customer,thank you for selecting a MetzLCD TV set.We have equipped this TV setwith a menu system which uses"file cards" and believe that thiswill provide you with a userinterface that is easy to under-stand.If you have any problems, you canpress the "INFO" key to display ahelp function that will assist you insetting up your TV set.However, you should read atleast sections 1 to 8 of the Ope-rating Instructions before puttingyour new TV set into service.

TV sets with the type designa-tion “HDTV” provide the possi-bility of showing HDTV pro-grammes.

TV sets with the type designa-tion “FHD” provide the possibi-lity of HDTV programmes if anexternal AV device supplies thesignal to the HDMI socket.

• Take care that no bright artificial lightor sunshine falls directly on the screen.This could cause reflections which havea negative effect on the brilliance ofthe picture.

• The best viewing distance is five timesthe screen diagonal, i.e.- Approximately 2 m (6.3 ft) for 26"screens- Approximately 2.4 m (7.6 ft) for 32"screens- Approximately 2.8 m (9 ft) for 37"screens- Approximately 3.2 m (10.3 ft) for42" screens

• The antenna cable and any other com-ponents (such as a video recorder)connected between the antenna socketin the wall and the TV set must complywith the European standard EN 60966-2-4.

• The antenna cable used for connectingthe TV set must have a screening atte-nuation of at least 75 dB.

1. Installation• The use of non-approved cables will

invalidate the operating permission forthe TV set.

• Only use Metz bases as a stand for theLCD TV.

• Use the Metz wall bracket (item no.604 99 0286.A2) or a suitable Omni-Mount wall bracket to hang the LCD TVon the wall. For an OmniMount wallbracket, you also need the Metz adap-ter plate 013ZM1091.

• Strong tobacco consumption at theinstallation location of the LCD TV canlead to nicotine and soot depositsbehind the panel glass and thus to animpairment of the image quality. Suchdeposits can only be removed by aspecialist. In extreme cases the panelmay be damaged permanently,which may require to replace the panel.The cleaning and / or the replacementof the panel is not covered by warran-ty claims.

This TV set is exclusively designed for thereception and replay of picture andsound signals.The TV set is designed for dry rooms(living rooms and offices).The room climate should be in a rangefrom +5°C to +35°C with 75% air humi-dity.The TV set must not be used in roomswith higher air humidity (e.g. bathroom,sauna, etc.).

The TV set must not be used in roomswith a high concentration of dust (e.g. aworkshop).If, as an exception, you operate the TVset outdoors, then please make sure thatit is protected against moisture (rain,water spray, dew).

1.2 Connecting and switching onThe TV set is now in standby mode andthe red standby indicator lights.After about 25 seconds, the TV set swit-ches to programme position 1 or to theprogrammed initial programme position(see page 104).If you press no further keys on the remotecontrol, a window requesting that you doso is displayed after about 10 minutes. Ifyou do not do this, the TV set switchesback to the standby state.

Switching on from the Stand-by

Use the numeric keys to select any de-sired programme position. Pressing the

key selects programme position 1 or,if it is programmed, the initial programmeposition (see page 104.

Switching offPress the key to switch the TV set tostandby mode. If you do not intend to usethe TV set for a longer period, switch it offwith the main power switch.

2. Safety notes• Always place the monitor on a solid,

stable surface.

• If a cold TV set is moved to a warmroom, always allow any condensationon the screen to evaporate before swit-ching it on.

• The TV set is intended for use in a dryroom. If, in exceptional circumstances,you use it outdoors, take care that isprotected against moisture (rain, splas-hed water, dew).

• TV sets need adequate ventilation.Never cover the openings on the rearof the set with curtains, doilies, new-spapers, etc. Also take care that theslits in the bottom of the case are freelyaccessible so that the intake of thecooling air is not hindered.

• If you place the TV set in a wall unit,leave sufficient space on all sides forthe circulation of cooling air.

• Do not place the TV set close to a radi-ator, since this would effect adequatecooling.

• Do not place- burning candles or vessels containing liquids (vases, etc.)on top of the TV set, since any hot waxor water dripping into the set couldcause serious damage to the electroniccomponents and could also jeopardizethe electrical safety of the set.

• Lightning can damage electrical equip-ment. A lightning flash entering thepower cable or the aerial cable candamage the TV set even if it is swit-ched off. You should therefore discon-nect the power cable and aerial cable

from their outlets or from the TV set inthe case of a thunderstorm.

• The monitor may be opened andrepaired only by a qualified person.

CAUTION! HIGH VOLTAGES CAN KILL !

If repairs should be necessary, consultyour local dealer.

• Always switch off the TV set before cle-aning it.

• Do not hold the remote control directlyin front of your eyes and press a but-ton. The remote control emits infraredradiation!

• Do not place rechargeable batteries inthe battery compartment of the remotecontrol. Use only two 1.5 V dry batte-ries of the type LR03/AM4/AAA(Micro).

• The TV set is intended only for thereception and reproduction of pictureand sound signals.

• The TV set may be operated only froma mains voltage of 230-240V VAC, 50 Hz. Australia: 240 VAC.

• For maintenance and repair work, thepower plug or the power-cord input of theTV represents a means to disconnect thedevice from the mains and must thereforebe kept in a usable state in line with appli-cable standards.

• Lay the power cable so that nothingstands on it and no-one can trip over it.

• Do not display still images, logos, 4:3pictures with stripes etc. over an exten-ded period. These still images canresult in marks on the screen.

3. The Remote Control

Do not insert rechargeable batteries inthe battery compartment of the remotecontrol.

Use only two dry batteries of the typeLR03/ AM4/AAA 1.5V.

The batteries that are used must not beexposed to excessive heat such assunshine, fire or the like.

The remote control sends commands tothe TV set by means of an infrared signal.You must point it towards the TV set whenusing it. Note that the remote control mayinterfere with the operation of other devi-ces which use infrared signals (such asinfrared headphones).

Sunlight falling directly on the TV set mayinterfere with the operation of the remote con-trol, since the TV set cannot detect the infraredsignals from the remote control under theseconditions. The TV set must be switched onwith the main power switch before it can becontrolled with the remote control.

The most important keysfor normal use ON

Switches the TV set on with programmeposition 1 or the programmed initialprogramme position selected, or swit-ches it OFF (to the standby state).

Numeric keys (direct station selection).

P+ /P- Selects the next/previous pro-gramme position.

Volume control.Setting can be changed in the menu.

4. Daily OperationChanging picture settingsThe picture settings can be accessed with the bluebutton . The settings box with the individualfunctions (see picture) appears on the bottom leftof the screen.

Select the desired function with the „P+/P-“ rockerswitch and adjust it with the – + key.

The individual picture characteristics can also besaved as default values for all programmes. SeeChapter 11 for this.

Volume settingsUse the – + key to change the volume.

Changing the sound settingsThe sound settings can be accessed with the yel-low button . The settings box with the individualfunctions (see picture) appears on the bottom leftof the screen.Select the desired function with the „P+/P-“ rockerswitch and adjust it with the – + key.The individual sound characteristics can also besaved as default values for all programmes. SeeChapter 12 for this.

The settings that are made here are only tem-porary and are not saved. If the TV set is swit-ched to stand-by mode or switched off, all set-tings will be reset to the preset default values.

Selecting stations from the station tableIn normal TV or radio 1) mode, you can displaythe station table by pressing the white key. Press the white key repeatedly to display a vir-tual keyboard. Use the respective key to sort thestation list alphanumerically.

In the table which is then displayed, youcan use the oval rocker key "P+/P-" orthe numeric keys to select the desiredstation and then press the "OK" key todisplay this station.

If the station table contains more than20 stations, you can display the next 10stations by pressing the oval cursor con-trol key .

Back to the last stationYou can use the red key to switch back andforth between the last two stations you have selec-ted.

Station selection and manage-ment of programme positionsThe TV set can store the settings for up to2000 TV stations and 2000 radio stationsin so-called programme positions. Youcan select any of these programme posi-tions with the numeric keys, with the ovalrocker key "P+/P-" or from the stationtable.

If you use the numeric keys for stationselection, the first digit you enter is nor-mally the "thousands" digit. If less than1000 programme positions are occupied,

it automatically becomes the "hundreds"digit.

If less than ten programme positions areoccupied, the first digit you enter automa-tically becomes the "units" digit.

After pressing any numeric key, you havethree seconds to press further numerickeys

During the design of this TV set, we have madeevery effort to make it as easy a possible for youto use it and we hope that you will enjoy familiari-sing yourself with your new TV set.

With the "Information" menu, the TV set is able toanswer the many questions which may come upduring installation and setup.

To display this menu, simply press the "INFO" keyfor the table of contents.

The "Information" menu (user help)In the table of contents or the index, you can select

the item of interest with the cursor controlkey.

Use the cursor-right key to scroll for-wards through the contents or index ...

Use the cursor-left key to scroll back-wards through the contents or index ...

Use the cursor-up key to select the lastunderlined item ...

Use the cursor-down key to select themenu lines...

... and then press the "OK" key to displaythe explanation of the selected item.

You can select any underlined word in the table ofcontents, the index or the explanation of a selec-ted item with the cursor. Pressing the "OK" keythen displays the explanation for this word.

You can also scroll forwards and backwardsthrough previously displayed pages with the aidof the red and green keys.

With the "TV menu", we provide you with anassistant to help you find your way through themany possible settings of the TV set.

Don't be afraid to change anysettings in the various menus.No changes will be savedunless you press the "OK" keyto confirm them. If you are notsure whether you want to keepa changed setting, you canexit from the menu at anytime, without saving anychanges, by pressing the"EXIT" key.

Within the TV menu, you canreturn to the previous main menuitem at any time by pressing the"MENU" key. If you are not surewhat a menu item does, press the"INFO" key for more information.

In order to return to the menu, press the "INFO"key twice.

You can open each of the five main sections of the menuwith the key of the corresponding colour. The "card file"which is then displayed is subdivided into Subjects (onthe left) and Sections (on the right), and you can selectthese by moving the red, triangular cursor with the ovalcursor control key or with the numeric keys.

When you press the "OK" key, the current settingfor the selected item is shown in the "Setting win-dow" below the card file and can be adjustedwith the – + key.

You can save the new setting by pressing the"OK" key, which also returns you to the list of sec-tions. If you do not want to save the new setting,press the "MENU" key to return to the correspon-ding main menu item or press the "EXIT" key toclose the menu.

You can delete any incorrect inputs with the II key.

Teletext is an additional service provided free ofcharge by many TV stations. It is an "electronicmagazine" through which you can browse invarious ways.

Opening Teletext:

• Press the "TEXT" key. If the selectedstation offers "TOP-Text", a "cardfile" is displayed (see the picture onthe left).If "TOP-Text" is not available, Teletextpage 100 is displayed (see the pictu-re below).

• In the TOP-Text card file, you canselect the desired cards with the cur-sor control key or with the numerickeys.

• Press the "OK" key to open the selec-ted card.

Controlling Teletext with pages displayed:

Blue key – next subject.

Yellow key – next section.

White key – next page.

After pressing the coloured pre-selec-tion key, you can step through the sub-jects, sections or pages with the cursorcontrol key or with the numeric keys.

If you wish to select a specific page,enter its page number on the numerickeys.

If sub-pages exist for the selected page,the page numbers are displayed in black. In theexample shown here, there are five sub-pages.

You can step through these sub-pages with thecursor control key.

You can double the size of the font usedfor Teletext pages with the F1 key. Pres-sing this key once displays an enlargedpicture of the upper third of the page.Pressing it a second and third time dis-plays the centre and lower thirds of thepage. Pressing a fourth time displays theentire page again.

Riddle key (display hidden text)

Function key F2 is programmed in thefactory to display hidden text, such asthe answers to riddles.

You can return directly to the last indexpage you have displayed by pressingthe numeric key .

Stop page scrolling

The II key or the "OK" key can be usedto stop the automatic scrolling executedby some pages, and to enable thisagain.

Page selection with the cursor

Press the "OK" key to stop page scrol-ling. The cursor is now positioned atthe top left corner of the page and youcan use the cursor control key to position it anywhere on the displayedpage. This function is useful on indexpages (such as pages 100, 200, etc.) inorder to select a page you want to see.After positioning the cursor on the des-ired page number, press the "OK" key todisplay its contents.

Setting marks in Teletext 6)

As a user of Teletext, you will probablywant to visit certain pages (such as stock-market news, news pages or the weatherforecast) regularly.

In order to find these pages quickly, youcan set marks to suit your personal requi-rements.

To do this, open a page for which youwant to set a mark.

• Press the red key for "Set" to placea mark on this page. The number of themark you have just set is displayedabove the window containing the num-ber of the Teletext page. In the case ofmultiple pages, the mark is always setand displayed for the currently display-ed sub-page.

Up to 10 marks can be set for eachprogramme position.

With the Teletext window open, you canstep sequentially through the markedpages with the green key.

An even easier method is by pressing the"TEXT" key while the TV programme isdisplayed. Each time you press this key,the next marked page is displayed. Afterthe last marked page, the TV picture isdisplayed again.

If you have set marks for a programmeposition, you can display an overview ofthese marks by pressing the F3 key. Thedisplayed list shows where the marks areset. Press F3 again to hide the list.

You can select the individual marks inthe list with the numeric keys.

Subtitles in Teletext

Your TV set is capable of displaying sub-titles. When a programme for whichsubtitles exist starts, the TV station dis-plays a box showing the Teletext pageon which these can be found.

• Press the "TEXT" key to open Teletext.

• If this is a "TOP-Text" station, the cardfile is displayed. Press the "OK" keyand open any available page.

• Use the numeric keys to enter the num-ber of the page containing the subtit-les.

Split-Screen

In Teletxt mode, the TV-Programm win-dow in the upper left corner can beenlarged to half of your screen by pres-sing the „TV“ button.

If you press „TV“ button again, it will beused to the orginal size.

Before they can be used, AV devices mustbe registered and assigned to the appropri-ate input sockets in the menu "AV devices".

Playing back a recording from a video cassette, DVD,etc. on a connected AV device is called AV playback.

In order to see the picture, you must programmeyour TV set to execute an automatic programmechange at the EURO socket towhich the AV device is con-nected.

Programming a programmechange

This menu item is notavailable in a 2 ** menu(see Section 28,Scope of Operation).

The automatic program-me change is set in thefactory to "ON" for allEURO sockets.

• Press the "MENU" key.The TV menu appears on the screen.

• Press the red key . The menu"Configuration" is displayed.

• Use the corresponding numeric key (in this example: ) to select the menu item"EURO sockets".

If you now start to play back a recording on theconnected AV device, the TV set changes automa-tically from any other programme position to theplayback mode.

AV playback(devices without switching voltage)

Before they can be used, AV devices mustbe registered and assigned to the appropri-ate input sockets in the menu "AV devices".

In order to see the played back picture, you mustswitch the TV set to playback mode.

• Select any programme position.

• Press the "AV" key.

• Use the corresponding numeric key to select theAV device you want to use.

• Start the replay function on the AV device. ThisAV selection remains active until you switch toany other programme position.

In AV mode, when playing back digitally encodedfilms, system-related digital picture faults that canbe seen as a rectangular pattern (formation of tinyblocks) in moving areas can be reduced with thehelp of MPEG noise reduction.

In exceptional cases, when connecting an AV devi-ce using the HDMI socket with a non-standard sig-nal, there may be a red-blue colour shift. Thismeans that everything that is supposed to be redor reddish is shown in blue.

This colour shift can be corrected with the “UV Shift” menu option.

Setting UV Shift:

Three different power options can be set in the“Power options” menu option.

Eco ModeThe “Eco Mode” setting is a good compromisebetween energy consumption and picture quality.In addition, the TV set switches to stand-by modeif no buttons are pressed for 4 hours. “Eco Mode”is the preferred setting for normal home opera-tion.

PresentationThe “Presentation” setting is optimised for presen-tation rooms; it involves higher energy consump-tion, however. Automatic change-over to stand-bymode is not enabled.

Picture qualityIn this mode, all controls can be used for picturemaximisation in order to meet the needs of allindividual conditions.

Automatic volume correction

Some TV stations transmit their commercials at ahigher sound volume than that for the normal pro-gramme. In order to save you from adjusting thevolume each time with the remote control, you canactivate automatic volume correction.

With this function active, there is little difference inthe volume levels for the normal programme andthe commercials.

The setting made here appliesto all programme positions.

b) one to six TV, radio or AV programmes (Prog A... Prog F) are exempted from the locking func-tion (permitted programmes), or

c) all programmes, or programmes which are notlocked, may be viewed during a permitted timeperiod (TV start – TV end).

The childlock must be saved once with a 4-digit"code" (password).

The menu items "On time" and "Off time" arenot available in a 2 ** menu.

In the menu item "Timer control", you can programmea switch-on time, a switch-off time and a sleep timer(switch off after ...).The switch-on time is the time at which the TV set is tobe switched on automatically. The switch-off time is the time at which the TV set is tobe switched off automatically. The sleep timer (switch off after...) switches off the TVset after a programmed delay (which can be set insteps of 15 minutes).

Setting the on time and offtime


• Press the green key toopen the "Timer" menu.

• Press the numeric key toselect "Timer control".

• Press the "OK" key andthen, in the setting window,enter the desired time (fourdigits) with the numeric keys.

• Press the "OK" key to save the setting.


At the programmed on time, the TV set is switched onfrom the standby state (red LED lights). You must con-firm this automatic action by pressing any key on theremote control. If this is not done, the TV set will switchback to the standby state after 10 minutes. This ensu-res that the TV set does not stay on if you are not athome.

If you do not want to have the TV set switch itself oneach day, you must clear the on and off times in themenu by pressing the ll key.

Normally, the TV set will determine the current dateand time from the Teletext signals of the currentlyselected station (providing this station sends Teletext).Note: For this the device must be turned on with

the mains switch.If this is not the case, or if an incorrect date or time isdisplayed, you can set the date and time manually.In almost all cases, you will not need to do this.Even the changeover between winter time and

summer time is executed auto-matically.

In the menu item "Recording control", you can set alead time and an overrun time for timer recordings.The TV set is automatically switched to the pro-gramme position from which the recording is tobe made at a time which is the number of minutesprogrammed as the lead time before the pro-grammed starting time for the recording.At the end of the programmed recording time, theTV set remains set to this programme position forthe period programmed as theoverrun time.For VPS recordings, the TV set isautomatically switched to the pro-gramme position from which therecording is to be made at a timewhich is the number of minutesprogrammed as the VPS leadtime before the programmed star-ting time for the recording. Bydefault, the TV set switches to thisprogramme position about onehour before the programmedstart time for a VPS recording.

Application example:

You wish to record a programme received viaDVB-T. The programme starts at 22:45 hours,ends at 23:40 hours and is broadcast on ITV.

Set up a "manual timer" as described in Section17, "Special Functions 2" or set a timer with theaid of the EPG as described in Section 22.3“Using EPG, Recording a Programme". The timerrecording does not use VPS.

Set the lead time to 3 minutes and the overruntime to 10 minutes.

At the programmed start time minus the pro-grammed lead time of three minutes, the TV set iseither:

- switched on from the standby state (red LEDlights) with the programme position for ITV selec-ted, whereby the screen remains dark but theprogramme is sent via the EURO socket to yourrecorder, or

- switched to the programme position for ITV if it isalready switched on.

At the programmed end of the recording (at23:40 hours) the programme position for ITVremains selected for the programmed overrun timeof 10 minutes.

It is not possible to switch to another pro-gramme position during the programmedlead and overrun times.

In the case of TV sets with two receivers, it is pos-sible to display a DVB programme and to open awindow to show a different analogue programmeor DVB programme from the second receiver orfrom the AV programme position.

In principle only one HDTV pro-gramme can be shown. An HDTVpicture can therefore not beshown as a PIP. In the case of100Hz- devices, it is not possiblefor a PIP to be shown for theHDMI- and DVI-AV-programmeposition.

Activating the PIP function

• Press the F1 key. A small window willappear. If an HDTV programme isshown as the main picture, the AVprogramme position AV1 will alwaysappear as the PIP.If either a DVB programme or an analogue pro-gramme is shown as the main picture, the samestation will always appear again as the PIP.

• By using the numeric keys or the "P+/P-" rockerswitch, it is possible to select a different AV pro-gramme position or a programme that is recei-ved with the second receiver as a PIP.

• You can use the cursor control keys to move the PIP picture on the screen. Thelast position to which this picture was set issaved.

• By pressing the "OK" key, you can set the frameof the PIP picture to active (red) or inactive (white).

• The contents of the PIP picture can be changedonly if its frame is active (red).

• By using the numeric keys or the "P+/P-" rockerswitch, it is possible to select a different AVchannel slot or an analogue channel from thesecond receiver.

The TV set stores the recordings in temporary digi-tal storage (time shift buffer).The temporary digital storage is sufficient forrecording approx. 130-300 min (SD) and 70-120min (HD=HDTV programmes).

This information only repre-sents approximate values,which can vary dependingon the volume of data in therecording.• Pause the programme with

the II button.The programme is recordedin the temporary storage.The name of the “paused”programme appears in theupper left corner of thescreen. The green button can be used to make the sta-

If you wish to record a programme which yourvideo recorder or DVD recorder cannot receivedirectly because it does not have a suitable tuner(such as DVB-T or DVB-C), you can use the "Timeroverview" to make such programmes available tothe recording device.

Setting a timer manually for a recording:

• Press the F2 key. If you press F2 briefly, the func-tion programmed for F2 (see Section 18. "Pro-gramming the function keys") is executed.If you hold down F2 for about two seconds, allpossible selections are displayed.

• If all possible selections are displayed, press thecorresponding numeric key (in the example: $)to open the timer menu.

• If a timer already exists, press the F1 key.• The cursor is located at the left of the first line

"Record". The number of subjects and sectionsdepends on the selected scope of operation.Depending on the configuration of the TV set,

If you wish to record the programme you are cur-rently watching, you can start a direct (one-touch)recording to make the current programme availa-ble to a recording device connected to the EUROsockets.

Starting a direct recording:

19. EPGEPG (Electronic Program Guide) is an electronicTV guide covering all major channels. The guide may be made up of details from NexTView8) and/or DVB-SI. The NexTView8) information is broadcast byvarious channels and also includes information forother broadcasting organizations.DVB-SI (Digital Video Broadcasting-Service Infor-mation) is a service provided by different broad-casters. Programme details are broadcast digitallyby each broadcaster exclusively for those pro-grammes it offers. NexTView8) and DVB-SI are similar in principle,but their content may differ in the detail offered.

Selecting a programme for recording:

If you have a video recorder with the dialoguesystem, the EPG permits you to start a recordingby pressing a single key.

• Press the "EPG" key to open the EPG.

- Switch on the video recorder.

- Insert a cassette.

Selecting the language in the TV menuYou can select any of the available languages forthe TV menu. All texts in the menu and in the helpscreen (Information) are then displayed in theselected language.

This TV set is equipped for up to four different typesof reception, depending on the configuration or retro-fitting:Analogue TV: The broadcasting technology which

has been used for many years. The signals can be received via a rooftopantenna or a cable.

DVB-T: The new digital broadcasting technology whose signals can be received via an existing(analogue) rooftop antenna or an indoorantenna (depending on the strength of theavailable signal). For more details, pleaseconsult your local TV dealer or search for“DVB-T” in the Internet.

Various TV standards for picture and sound areused in different countries. If the wrong TV stan-dard is selected, you will not be able to hear thesound, or it will be distorted. The TV standard "L"also uses a different standard for transmission ofthe picture. The TV standard must therefore be setbefore you execute a station search.

Terrestrial station searchThe terrestrial station search automatically sear-ches the entire range of available reception fre-quencies for stations. All stations which are foundare placed in the station table which is displayedat the end of the search operation. If you are notsatisfied with the order in which the stations aredisplayed, you can move them to other positionsor delete unwanted stations (see Section 23., "Sorting stations".

Executing a terrestrial station search• Press the "MENU" key to open the TV menu.• Press the red key to open

the menu "Configuration".• Use the corresponding

numeric key (in the exam-ple: ( ) to select "Analogue TV".

• After completion of the search, all stations whichhave been found are sorted.

• You can delete any unwanted stations from thestation table by selecting them with the cursorcontrol key and pressing the II key.

If this automatic selection does not provide satis-factory results (which should happen only rarely),you can select the colour standard manually foreach programme position.

Each DVB-S receiver must be assigned a sub-scriber number (SCR no.) and the associated sub-scriber frequency (SCR freq.) from the frequencybank (see channel router or its user’s guide)

Each subscriber number and subscriber fre-quency may only be assigned once.

The DVB-S receiver in the TVset requests the data for thedesired programme from thechannel router.

the TV set knows them.These settings should always be made in the orderin which they are shown in the right-hand columnof the menu, starting at the bottom, i.e. LNB supply voltage, DiSEqC system, etc.

LNB supply voltageThe LNB voltages for selection ofthe polarisation (horizontal H =18V, vertical V = 14V) are al-ready set and do not normallyneed to be changed.If the cable to the satellite antennais very long, the voltages rea-ching the LNB may be too low. Insuch cases, the voltages can beincreased by 1 V by activatingthe line-compensation function.If any changes should be

"DiSEqC" makes it possible to control the satellite antenna digitally via the existingantenna cable and is a prerequisite for thereception of signals from more than two satellites (e.g. Astra, Eutelsat, Hotbird).If you wish to receive signals from at least threesatellites (e.g. ASTRA 19.2°, Eutelsat 16°, Hot-bird 13°) the antenna system can be controlledonly with the aid of "DiSEqC".

The DVB-S station search scans the entire recep-tion band for TV and radio stations and storesthem in separate TV and radio station tables. Fordetails of the DVB radio mode, see Section 26 inthe operating instructions for the TV set.If you are not satisfied with the order in which the sta-tions are stored, you can move stations to other posi-tions in the table or delete them. For further details, seeSection 23, "Sorting stations" in the operating instruc-tions for the TV set.

Various pay TV stations broadcast portal stations.These portal stations are filled with sub-stations oroptional channels.

In station search (see ch. 21) in "Search settings"the setting "all", "only free" or "free+CICAM"must be set so that these stations can be foundtoo.

After a station search, the portal sta-tions and the accompanying optionalchannels (may also be identified in thestation table as SID=xy) will be shownin the station table on various programplaces.

We have programmed a simple wayfor you to find optional channels quik-kly.

If you select a portal station via the sta-tion table (see p. 11), a suitcase symbol

appears next to the station logo.

This suitcase can be opened by pressing the whitebutton repeatedly. All optional channels inclu-ded in this suitcase then appear in the stationtable. Other stations are not shown simultaneous-ly.

In this way, you can switch quickly bet-ween the optional channels.

22. Station LogoWith the aid of the VPS signal, a station logo witha maximum length of 15 characters is automati-cally assigned to each station.

If this automatic assignment does not work, or ifyou want to use a different logo, you can changethe setting manually.

Setting the station logo

29. Cleaning the TV SetBefore cleaning the set, alwaysswitch it off with the mains switch!

Incorrect treatment and cleaning ofthe screen surface can cause irre-parable damage to it. You shouldtherefore always observe the follo-wing instructions for treatment andcleaning of the set.

Treatment:Always treat the screen surface verycarefully.

Take care not to damage it mechanicallyby shocks, impact, scratching or scra-ping.

Keep sharp, pointed and hard objectsaway from the surface of the screen.

Keep the surface of the screen clean.

For cleaning the case and the screen,use only a soft, dry cloth. For removingstubborn marks, you may moisten thecloth slightly.

Cleaning and care:The surface of the screen may be clean-ed only with a soft, dry cloth (such as amicrofleece duster). If any marks cannotbe removed with this dry cloth, you maymoisten the cloth slightly.

Take care that no water or other liquidcan enter the TV set, since this can causeserious damage to the set.

If any liquid or other foreign object (pie-ces of metal, etc.) enters the set, immedi-ately disconnect the mains plug from thewall outlet.

Never insert your hands or tools into theset, since this may result in electricshocks.

Detaching the front glass on Primusmodels

Pull the front glass out of the frame on allfour corners as far as it will go.Take out the front glass by lifting itapprox. 1.5 cm upwards and at thesame time forwards.Detaching the front glass on Siriusmodels

The front glass can be taken off front-wards for cleaning. The Sirius 32 has 4retaining pins and the Sirius 37/42 has6 retaining pins on the back of the frontglass. The front glass should be removedif possible by two persons, by removingthe bolts one at a time and taking it offfrontwards.CleaningThe front glass can be cleaned with astandard glass cleaner.

31. Registering AV DevicesAV (audio/video) devices are external deviceswhich deliver video and/or audio signals (suchas video recorders, DVD players, DVD recorders,etc.) and which can be connected to TV sets.

All commonly available AV devices are listed inthe menu "AV devices".

Note that you must always connect AVdevices exactly as shown in the connectiondiagram in the TV menu of your TV set !

SVHS/Hi8 and Data Logic video recorders must alwaysbe connected to the EURO1 socket of the TV set.

In the factory, the EURO1 socket is programmedfor a video recorder and the EURO2 socket is pro-grammed for a DVD player.

Registering an AV device onthe TV set


• Press the yellow key toopen the menu "AV devi-ces".

• Use the cursor control keyto select the AV device youwish to register and pressthe "OK" key.

The signal type always refers to the inputand output of the AV device.

Some AV devices may use a composite video sig-nal (FBAS) for recording and playback operationsand an RGB signal for displaying their menus.

It is not possible to make a general statement inthis respect. The operating instructions of the AVdevice concerned may provide some indication.

If you connect such an AV device with the signaltype "composite video" (FBAS) and recordings areplayed back correctly, but you cannot see themenu of the AV device, you must change the sig-nal type in the menu "AV devices" to "RGB".

AV devices equipped with a DVI or HDMI socketcan be connected to the LCD TV with the aid of aDVI or HDMI cable, respectively.

The connected device must be registered in themenu "AV devices" with "Signal OUT" set to"DVI" or "HDMI", as applicable. Connection of external devices with YUV compo-nent output to the "COMPONENT IN" RCA jacks.


AV devices equipped with a YUV jack can be con-nected to the LCD TV by means of a YUV cable(see page 114). In the "AV Devices" menu, theconnected AV device must be registered with sig-nal OUT "YUV". The connection of the analogue YUV source usingthe RCA jacks to the YUV input of the LCD TVdepends on the output format of the signal source.For YUV, the sound must be connected in additionvia a Cinch or optical audio cable (Toslink).Configure the following settings, depending on

32. Copying between AV DevicesDirect recording

Opening the menu

If you wish to copy a recording from one of theAV devices connected to your TV set (such as aDVD player) to another connected AV device (suchas a video recorder), you must do this by meansof a direct recording operation. In this case, thesignal arriving at one of the EURO sockets is redi-rected to the other EURO socket, from where itcan be recorded.

Example: you have a DVD player anda video recorder connectedto the EURO sockets of theTV set (see Section 31).

Programming a direct recording forcopying:

• Press the "AV" key and use the cor-responding numeric key to select theDVD player (playback device).

• Press the F2 key.Briefly pressing F2 executes the func-tion which is programmed for thisfunction key (see Section 18, "Pro-gramming function keys").Pressing and holding F2 for aboutthree seconds displays all functionsavailable for this function key.

• Press numeric key to open the timer menu.The timer window displays the AV pro-gramme position (DVD player), the cur-rent date and a time window of twohours.

• If two hours is insufficient for thecopying operation, use the numerickeys to enter a later end time.

The LCD TV has two slots (CI1 / CI2)for CA modules at the top (card readerfor smartcards or decoder cards).

To insert the CA module, open the lidon the top of the LCD TV and insert theCA module in one of the slots as shownin the pictures. Press the CA moduledown until the unlocking bar is liftedup.

Close the lid.

Dyn. ContrastThe „Dynamic contrast” setting facilitatesan automatic increase of the picture con-trast in the event of a low level of picturecontrast.

Fine searchDuring the station search with a stipula-ted symbol rate, the channels are syn-chronised at the centre of the channel. Ifthis setting does not lead to a satisfacto-ry result, fine tuning can then be set. Thesearch operation takes considerably lon-ger with the fine search set.

BacklightingThe backlighting (given in %) is the basicvalue that is set in accordance with thelight conditions in the room in which theTV set is located. The basic settingshould be carried out in a dark room sothat black picture content is still black.

Image stickingImages that remain unchanged for along time (several hours), such as stillpictures, result in „image sticking”, i.e.lasting shadow formation. Such images should be avoided if at allpossible. This effect is reversible anddisappears again after a short time.

Tone settingsThe tone can be set to either "Normal"or "Speech". In the setting "Speech", thebass and treble components of the soundsignal are set to make speech as easy tounderstand as possible. The setting

"Normal" is recommended for music pro-grammes.

Volume correctionThe various stations broadcast their soundat different volumes. The TV set can auto-matically compensate for these differen-ces in the volume. This function remainsactive even if the standard sound settingsare recalled.

Standard valuesThe standard values are the settings (suchas brightness, sound volume, colour, etc.)which are the same for all programmepositions.

SRS-WOWWOW is an audio system developed bySRS Labs, Inc. which provides a uniquelistening experience. The sound becomesfuller and the bass is deeper and morevoluminous.

Activation of the WOW function allowsyou to hear a lot of spatial and environ-mental audio information which is lost innormal stereo mode.

In normal TV mode, the WOW functioncan be preselected by pressing the yellowkey and then switched on and off withthe – + key.

Noise reductionThis function allows you to improve thepicture quality of "snowy" pictures whichresult from poor reception conditions.Various levels of noise reduction can beselected and the settings can be madeseparately for each programme position.

Forced monoIt may happen that your TV set switches tostereo mode although the programmeyou are watching is not broadcast withstereo sound. This is normally due to thelocal reception conditions. If you set theselected programme position to "forcedmono" all programmes received at thisprogramme position are reproduced withmono sound.
