I Introduction
C41-40 Pneumatic Hammer is series product in China,
and its parameter and structure coincides with the
stipulation of Pneumatic Hammer in People’s Republic
of China This manual introduces construction,
performance,adjustment, transit, operation and
maintenance of C41-40 kg Pneumatic Hammer In order to
ensure its normal running and avoid unexpected loss,
the installation and operation of this machine must be
strictly as per the operation manual prolonging the
operating life and steady running
During operation, if you have any advice on the
construction, function and quality of the pneumatic

The design and manufacture of C41-40 kg pneumatic hammer satify the requirements
of safety production of modern technics However, if the operators are not well
trained or misuse the machine, it may cause danger!
In you factory,the person relative to installation, disassemble, reinstallation,
trial running,operation and maintenance of this pneumatic hammer must read this
and understand this manual,especially for the safety parts
we suggest only the qualified person to do above works
C41-40 Pneumatic Hammer is a kind of free forging hammer, it can be used for all
kinds of free forging technics, such as drawing out, upsetting, punching holes,
hot shearing,forged welding,bending,twisting etc
Manufacture has no responsibility at anytime for the damage of this hammer due
to improper operation !
This pneumatic hammer must be operated, maintained and repaired by qualified
person who should be professional trained
The obligation of installing , disassembling , trial running , operating and
maintainence must be clear , and comply strictly , so that there is no mis-
understanding in safety obligation
Make sure no unauthorized person to operate this pneumatic hammer
The operator has obligation to report the factors that effect safety operation
regulation to the relative leader
Make sure the hammer body in accordance with cleanness requirements
The working area of pneumatic hammer must be clean,no obstacle,there should be
caution banner around
Without permission,the safety requirements can not be changed
The maintainence should be carried by professional worker according to this
operation manual, and hang maintainence board at the obvious place
When malfunction occured, stop the hammer by emergency stop, do not start the
hammer till the malfunction was solved
The operator must command the construction,function,tran-
smission principle and application of this hammer,as well
as maintainence
The operator should wear safe-guard glassed while working
to avoiod forging blur,spark to hurt eyes Wear safe-guard
shoes and exposure suit
Choose and use proper clamps while do forging works,clamp
mouth should fit the forging pieces

be used for all kinds of free forgings, such as stretching,
upsetting, punching, hot shearing, forged welding, bending and
twisting It can be used for die forging with boster dies, but
can’t be used for closed die forging,because the blow engergy
of close die forging is very big, the hammer rod,guide,working
cylinder etc main parts will be damaged

The motor drives through I V-belt, and via the action of the
crankshaft-connecting rod mechanism,it converts rotary motion to
reciprocating motion When the piston moves up and down, compressed
air enters the working cylinder from the compressing cylincer Control
the handle or foot rod,then series blow or single blow can be done
(or idle run,top setting,pressing down can be done)
1 Frame The frame is the essential component part of pneumatic hammer
It includes working cylinder,compressing cylinder and anvil block evt In
addition, driving part,controlling part,lubricating part and cover are all
installed in the frame
(1) Buffer device(Fig 3) The function of the buffer device is to prevent
the tup from colliding with the cylinder cover The principle of the buffer
device is:When the tup moves up reaching the upper edge of air channel R ,
Chamber X is formed between the cylinder cover and tup With the tup moving
up, the air in chamber X is subjected to compress and forms an air cushion
which prevents the tup from rising With the help of compressed air, the tup
is made move down In the meanwhile, to make the tup move down quickly A ba
valve is specially installed One end faces to chamber X and the other faces
to air air cannel The ball valve will prevent the air in chamber X from goi
out when the air pressure in chamber X is stronger than that in the compress
cylinder The air pressure in the cylinder is lighter than that in chamber X
when the piston instantly moves up,compressed air enter chamber X from the
channel R forbidding the tup to move down quickly

(2) Tup composite structure(fig 4) The tup is used to
forge metal It must have definate mass to get deserved
energy The blowing mass is 40kg The blowing part(includes
the top die and connecting parts) of the tup is made of
hollow shape in the middle Two opposite flats of the tup
rod are fitted closely with the guide preventing the tup
swiveling
The method of fixing the top die, the top wedge to the
tup rod(see Fig 4)。

in the tup guide and piston guide It is used to prevent a
large amount of the compressed air leaking in the process of
the tup and the piston doing reciprocating motion The sealing
ring is consisited of four arc pieces,surrounded with a spring
packing it The sealing ring is fixed in its slot with pins

A clearance between the sectors is to be maintained to make the
friction part have no clearance in a certain range and to ensure
deserved role (See Fig 5)

(4)Air supplement mechanism (Fig 6)
Because there is a part of air leaking during the hammer
doing work,it requires definite air to make up Two rows of
holes are set in the compressing cylinder, a circle of holes
at the foot of the piston and a notch at the piston, and these
are all used to make up the air
Air supplement has two steps:
First: When the piston moves to its upper dead point
(1)The holes of row A is just at the upper edge of the
piston, align the holes of row B and the piston notch, the
air enter the piston through holes A,B,then connect with
the atomosphere at the moment
(2)In addition, a circle of holes K is just connected
with the low chamber,the atmosphere enters the lower chamber
through holes K to make up the air, and then there is enough
air to compress when the piston moves down
Second: when the piston moves to its lower dead point
Align the hole D and the mouth in the upside of the
piston,the air which enters the piston goes into the upper
chamver through C,then there is enough air to compress during
the piston moving up (see Fig 6)

(5)Piston connecting rod mechanism (Fig 6) Piston,connecting
rod,bushing and piston pin are fixed together with spring ring
preventing the piston pin axial displacement Then the pin is
inserted between the piston and the piston pin prevent piston
swiveling Align the oil hole of the piston pin and that in the
piston,enable the oil hole to be open and free in obtaining proper
lubrication
V oil slot is used to store the lubricating oil which flows
from the wall of the guide and enters the piston pin, then connecting
rod bush and the piston pin obtain lubrication (see Fig 6)
In addition, when overhauling and assembling the piston connecting
rod,pay attention to align the face which have a notch and that which
have air holes,in order to ensure the air leaking when the piston moves
up to the upper dead point

2 Driving part The driving part is used to convert the
rotary motion of the motor into the reciprocating motion
through V-belt crankshaft-connecting rod mechanism causing
the piston to move up and down 40kg Pneumatic Hammer drives
through I V-belt (see Fig 7)

Crankshaft bearing part use roller bearing The connecting rod head use
double row centripetal sphere roller bearing,it’s flexible and reliable
3 Controlling part The controlling part is mainly used to control rotary
valve and assignment of the air to obtain idle run, top setting, series
blow,single blow, pressing down ect ( Fig 9-12)
55kg Pneuamtic Hammer supplies air with two level valve ( Fig 8)The ways
of control are handle or pedal
(1)Idle run(see Fig 9)
Make the pointer to place of ”idle run”by foot or handle, at this time,
the chambers in working cylinder and those in compressing cylinder are
all open to atmosphere The tup doesn’t work and motor runs without any
load
(2)Top setting(see Fig 10)
Make it point to the place of ”top setting”by foot rod or handle
Then the upper chamber in the working cylinder is open to atmophere,but
its lower chamver is not When the piston moves up, compressed air opens,
check valve and enters the lower chamber in the chamber in the working
cylinder making the tup move up
(3)Series blow(see Fig 11)
Make the pointer point to the place of ”top setting”by footrod or handle
Then the upper and lower chambers of the working cylinder are connected,
the compressed cylinder,and they are all close to atmosphere,the tup moves
up when the compressing piston moves down,on the contrary,when the
compressing piston moves up, the tup falls quickly The strength of the
blow force denpends on the turning angle of the controlling handle( or
foot rod) The larger the angle, the stronger the force It is called
strong blow On the contrary,
4)Pressing down(see Fig 12)
Make the pointer point at the place of ”pressing down”, then the upper
chamber of the working cylinder and the lower chamber of the compressing
cylinder are not connected to atmosphere But the lower chamber of the
wroking cylinder and the upper chamber of the compressing cylinder are
connected to atmosphere When the compressing piston moves down,

the air in lower chamber of the compressing cylinder opens
the check valve and enters the upper chamber of the working
cylinder, and makes the tup fall to press the forged parts
tightly
(5)Single blow
Single blow is a modification of series blow It can be
obtained by swiftly turning the handle counter clockwise
from idle run to series blow immediately shifting back to
”top setting”position

Machine Lubricating List
The working principle of self-absorbing oil pump(see Fig 14)
The oil pump used in this hammer is self-absorbing oil pump
Due to the reciprocating motion of the piston and tup, through
the negative pressure of both cylinder and copper pipe, oil
enters both cylinders There is a hand press pump in the oil
pump Shake the handle a few times before working, the cylinder
can be lubricated beforehand, then they are continously lubricated
by means of negative pressure The adjustment device of oil quantity
used in this oil pump in the oil adjustment screw
Cautions:
(1)The lubricating oil in oil pump can’t be full, otherwise, the
compressed air can’t enter the oil pump and the lubricating oil can’t
flow out
(2)The oil surface in the oil pump can’t be lower than the
graduation line of the oil level, otherwise, the lubricating oil is
separated from oil pipe and can’t flow out
(3)If there is lubricating oil in oil pump, but we can’t see it
through oil pipe, we should stop quickly and check if there is loose
phenomenon between connecting place
(4)We should stop and repair the machine if there is phenomenon
of oil leaking

V Electric Installation
C41-40 Pneuamtic Hammer adopts AC 3 phase,50Hz, 380V power
supply The electric system is made up of motor,starter,emergency
stop equipment and power switch ect Please be attention that
the turning of motor is identical to the direction of arrow on
the big belt cover
Adopt QCX2-12 type electromagnetic starter to control the
start of motor There are protecting shell which grade is IP65,
and easy to operating button The green button is ”switch on”,
and the red button is ”break off”and ”reset”The inside is
equiped with AC contactor and thermal relay When motor is loss
of phase,overloading running,thermal relay can work to break
off power to protect The setting value of thermal relay is being
adjusted well when leaving factory;afer working, it can reset
start for cooling a few minutes Please arrange starter position
by customers Please see the manual of QCX2 about the detailed
installation
Emergency Stop Equipment is emergency stop button in the
button box, which can installed the position easy to operate
In the emergency case, press emergency stop to stop button
Please see Electric Principle Drawing about the connection
of emergency stop button and starter
Customers prepair power switch by themselve Please see
the principal drawing to choose type And it’s better to choose
load switch with short circuit protection in order to protect
when circuit is short

V Installation and Operation
(I) Installation requirements:
1 The foundation must be made according to Fig 15 and it should be
thoroughly dried
2 Adjust the tightness of the triangle belts
(II) Trial running
1 If the duration from delivery to initial use exceeds six months,
check all the parts of the hammer and make sure they are well assembled
and sealed During checking, all the parts should be cleaned thoroughly
and oiled
2 Check and see whether the control mechanism is easily operated and
the lubrication oil line are well through
3 Be sure the electric circuit is well connected
4 Lubricate all the lubricating positions Shake the handle of the self
absorbing oil pump 20-30 times to lubricate both clylinders beforehand
5 After setting the pointer at the ”idle run”position on the indicator,
start the motor, and keep the hammer running at idle for 15-20 minutes
Do the trial forging when the normal running acquired
6 Installation and operation should be carried out by skilled workers
(III) Operation precautions
1 The operator should be well acquainted with the constructions and
characteristics of the hammer
2 During operation, the lubrication must be in good condition, especially
be care if the oil pipe is through
3 Cold stamping and underfired forging are not allowed to be forged
4 Always keep the forging to center of the die, never at its sides
order to prolong the hammer’s life
5 The duration of top setting (tup remaining suspended) should be
short as possible,otherwise it will cause the hammer to be overheated
and waste the energy
6 Before starting and while stopping the motor, it is necessary to set
the handle to the ”idle run”position
7 Stop using the hammer immediately when cracks are observed in the
frame, anvil cap, tup rod and dies
8 When forging , don’t control the handle or the foot rod too violently
to avoid the tup rod head colliding the top cylinder cover

VI Maintenance
Routine inspection and proper maintenance of the hammer can
prolong its life and decrease the repairing cost The main
contents of maintenance are as follows:
1 The hammer must be inspected and cleaned after using half
a month, later a routine inspection and clean should be done
When inspection and repairing, the tup and the piston should
be taken out from the cylinders by means of the ring bolts
Pay attention to avoid colliding
2 Keep the levelness of the top and bottom die faces
3 The wedges should be tightened during cold, when the
tightening wedge of the top and bottom dies comes loose,they
should be tightened again or replaces
4 The control mechanism must be operated easily and safely
Specially attention should be paid to ”length of stroke”of
the tup when changing operate functions If air leakage occurs,
prompt repair is required
5 The operator must observe all the items of the operation
precautions Should the abnormal condition be observed, the
hammer must be operated easily and safely The highest
temperature in two cylinders should not be higher than 70oC
6 Be sure to inspect the wearing parts at regular intervals
Replace those parts excessively worn out with new ones which
must be manufactured according to the technical requirements
of the wearing parts drawing

piston guide leak
3 The friction of tup rod increasesdue to following causes
(1)The clearance between the tup rod and thetup rod guide too little
(2)The lower end of tup is out ofshape and rough
(3)The inside surface of working cylinderor the surface of tup rod is worn
1 Remove the covers of upper and lowerair supplement on the frame, letthe piston lie at upper dead pointand lower dead point observe thelong air supplement hole of pistonwhether it faces well with the airsupplement holes on the compressingcylinder repair it if necessary
