Introduction1.1 Purpose

The purpose of the document is to explain what the ActiveX or Web Client Controls (WCC) are used for, how to install them and configuration required on users side to ensure they work.

1.2 About Web Client ControlsUsers of the eB Web UI must make use of functionality provided in an ActiveX download. The download is activated when the user logs onto the eB Web UI though Internet Explorer.

The functionality that the ActiveX provides is the following: • Launch a set of files (can only download files individually without it) using native application.• Download files to local disk (can only pick individual files and save to folder otherwise)• Upload files to eB (using the drop zone icon)• Spell check through MS Word• Check Out files (can only lock without it)• Check In files

Given the security settings within Internet Explorer that may be deployed by users Group Policies, it is often not possible for users to download ActiveX. The functionality that ActiveX provides has therefore been packaged up into a separate application known as the Web Client Controls.

If the Web Client Controls have been deployed to a user’s PC, then the ActiveX will not be required.

1.3 Pre-requisites

The pre-requisites for eB 15.6.1 are as follows:

Windows XP SP2/3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 SP2, or Windows Server 2008 R2

Post Install1.7 Confirmation of changes performed by installation

Installation process of Web Client Controls copies one DLL file to Client machine. Depending on the bit version, the file added is either:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\eB\Web\Control32\eB.Control.IEControl.dll (for 32-bit)

Or

C:\Program Files\Bentley\eB\Web\Control64\eB.Control.IEControl.dll (for 64-bit)

These files are then registered in the registry.

1.8 Internet Explorer ConfigurationTo successfully start using WCC, the user needs to confirm the Internet Explorer Security changes, and modify if necessary.

Navigate to Internet Explorer Options
