Location of identification data on the applianceThe type designation and the serial number are stampedon the rear of the appliance. Make a note of this data inyour operating instructions and always refer to it whenmaking an enquiry to your Hilti representative or servicedepartment.

2 Description2.1 Use of the product as directedThe stand-up decking fastening tool is an accessoryfor use with Hilti metal construction screwdrivers. Theunit (screwdriver and stand-up tool) is used to drivethe recommended metal construction screws (collatedself-drilling screws) in sheet metal. The stand-up tool isdesigned to be used to fasten metal sheets by drivingscrews downwards into steel supports. The total thick-ness of the items through which the screws are driven(metal sheets and steel support) must not exceed 15 mm.

The working environment may be a construction site ofany kind where metal construction work is taking place.Use only the specified accessory items.The general safety instructions listed in the operatinginstructions must be observed.

5 Safety instructions5.1 Basic information concerning safetyObserve the safety information and the operating instruc-tions for the Hilti metal construction screwdriver used.In addition to the information relevant to safety givenin each of the sections of these operating instructions,the following safety instructions must be strictly ob-served at all times.The Hilti metal construction screwdriver can then be usedin the stand-up tool with maximum safety.

5.2 Requirements to be met by users

a) The machine is intended for professional use.b) The machine may be operated, serviced and re-

paired only by authorized, trained personnel. Thispersonnel must be informed of any special haz-ards that may be encountered.

c) Always concentrate on your work. Think carefullyabout what you are doing and do not use theappliance if you are unable to concentrate.

d) Check that the core bits used are compatible withthe chuck system and that they are secured in thechuck correctly.

e) Concealed electric cables or gas and water pipespresent a serious hazard if damaged while youare working. Accordingly, check the working areabefore you begin. External metal parts of the ap-

pliance or machine may become live, for example,when an electric cable is damaged accidentally.

f) Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces whenperforming an operation where the cutting toolmay contact hiddenwiringor its owncord.Contactwith a “live” wire will make exposed metal parts ofthe tool “live” and shock the operator.

g) Always lead the supply cord and extension cordaway from the appliance to the rear while work-ing. This helps to avoid tripping over the cord whileworking.

h) The appliance may spring back if released sud-denly while under tension (e.g. when pressed down),presenting a risk of injury (especially bruising). Re-lease the spring pressure in the appliance in acontrolled manner.

i) Take care when the appliance is under tension andturned upside down. Keep well away from thenosepiece. It may suddenly spring out, presenting aconsiderable risk of injury.

j) Follow the instructions concerning care andmain-tenance.

k) Improve the blood circulation in your fingers byrelaxing your hands and exercising your fingersduring breaks between working.

5.3 Personal protective equipment

The user and any other persons in the vicinity mustwear suitable eye protection, ear protection andsafety footwear while the appliance is in use.

6 Before use

DANGERWear gloves when assembling or disassembling the ap-pliance, when making adjustments to it or when remedy-ing malfunctions.

6.1 Fit the Hilti metal construction screwdriver tothe appliance.

6.1.1 Fitting the grips 2

1. Release the two wing nuts on the main module.2. Push the two grips into the lower tubular sections.3. Adjust the height and angle of the grips. In order

to ensure that the grips can be clamped securely inposition, the grips should not be extended beyonda maximum length of 118 cm..

4. Secure the grips by tightening the wing nuts.

6.1.2 Fitting the magazine 4

Bring the magazine into position at the breech frombehind and then engage it with the upper and lowertubular sections.

6.1.3 Preparing the Hilti metal constructionscrewdriver for use 5

1. Set the Hilti metal construction screwdriver to for-wards rotation.NOTE The screws cannot be driven if the directionof rotation is set incorrectly.

2. Remove the depth gauge from the Hilti metal con-struction screwdriver.

3. Fit the bit holder and socket to the Hilti metal con-struction screwdriver.NOTE Check to ensure that the bit engages se-curely.

6.1.4 Fitting the Hilti metal constructionscrewdriver 3

1. Release the wing nut at the clamping bar on themain module.

2. Open the clamping bar.3. Insert the Hilti metal construction screwdriver into

the top end of the main barrel.

4. Close the clamping bar.5. Secure the Hilti metal construction screwdriver by

tightening the wing nut.6. Pass the supply cord through the supply cord strain

relief clasp on the grip.NOTE Feed a loop of the cord through from belowand then pull it over the clip.NOTE Check that the supply cord cannot be pulledout of the clasp.

7 Operation

CAUTIONThe screwdriving operation may cause the materialto splinter. Wear eye protection. Splintering materialpresents a risk of injury to the eyes and body.

7.1 Loading screws into the appliance 6

1. Insert the magazine strip into the magazine fromabove.

2. Push the magazine strip firmly into the magazineuntil all screws have fallen into the magazine.

3. Remove the empty magazine strip from the appli-ance.

4. Two magazine strips of 25 screws can be inser-ted. The second magazine strip must remain in theappliance.

7.2 Loading the first screw 7

Press the appliance down fully against the working sur-face. The appliance returns to its outset position underspring pressure.A screw becomes visible at the nosepiece.

7.3 Switching on the Hilti metal constructionscrewdriver 8

1. Plug the power tool’s supply cord into the electricsocket or fit the battery to the Hilti metal constructionscrewdriver.

2. Set the Hilti metal construction screwdriver to for-wards rotation.NOTE The screws cannot be driven if the directionof rotation is set incorrectly.

3. Switch the Hilti metal construction screwdriver on insustained operating mode by pressing the on / offswitch fully and then pressing the switch lockbutton.

7.4 Driving screws 9

1. Bring the nosepiece to the position where the screwis to be driven.

2. DANGER Always hold the appliance securely at thegrips provided.Drive the screw by pressing the appliance down asfar as it will go.NOTE The appliance must be pressed down fullyagain each time a screw is to be driven.NOTE The torque setting suitable for the applica-tion should be checked and adjusted as necessaryon the Hilti metal construction screwdriver whenpreparing the appliance for use.The appliance returns to its outset position underspring pressure.

7.5 Driving screws in tight corners 10

The nosepiece can be rotated through 90° in order toallow a more comfortable working position.

7.6 Removing screws from the magazine 11

1. Push the empty magazine strip back into the appli-ance.

2. Turn the appliance upside down, i.e. the nosepiecepoints upwards. The screws slide back into themagazine strip.NOTE It may be necessary to shake the applianceslightly.

3. Pull the magazine strip out of the appliance.4. Remove the last screw remaining in the nosepiece

by opening the retaining jaws.

8 Care and maintenanceCAUTIONBefore beginning cleaning, unplug the supply cord orremove the battery from the power tool in order toprevent unintentional starting.

DANGERRemove the ST 1800‑A screwdriver, bit and magazineguide from the stand-up tool.

8.1 Care of screwdriving bitsClean off dirt and dust deposits adhering to the screw-driving bits and spindle and protect them from corrosionby wiping them from time to time with an oil-soaked rag.

8.2 Care of the applianceDANGERKeep the grips dry, clean and free from oil and grease.

The appliance can be washed under running water if ithas become very dirty. The appliance should then bedried and rubbed with an oily cloth to prevent corrosion.

8.3 MaintenanceCheck all external parts of the appliance for damageat regular intervals and check that all controls operatefaultlessly. Do not operate the appliance if parts aredamaged or when the controls do not function faultlessly.If necessary, the appliance should be repaired by HiltiService.

8.4 Checking the appliance after care andmaintenance

After carrying out care and maintenance, drive severalscrews in order to check that the appliance functionscorrectly.

9 Disposal

Most of the materials from which Hilti tools and appliances are manufactured can be recycled. The materials mustbe correctly separated before they can be recycled. In many countries, Hilti has already made arrangements fortaking back old tools and appliances for recycling. Ask Hilti customer service or your Hilti representative for furtherinformation. Should you wish to return the appliance yourself to a disposal facility for recycling, dismantle it as far aspossible without need for special tools.

10 Manufacturer’s warrantyHilti warrants that the tool supplied is free of defects inmaterial and workmanship. This warranty is valid so longas the tool is operated and handled correctly, cleanedand serviced properly and in accordance with the HiltiOperating Instructions, and the technical system is main-tained. This means that only original Hilti consumables,components and spare parts may be used in the tool.

This warranty provides the free-of-charge repair or re-placement of defective parts only over the entire lifespanof the tool. Parts requiring repair or replacement as aresult of normal wear and tear are not covered by thiswarranty.

Additional claims are excluded, unless stringent na-tional rules prohibit such exclusion. In particular, Hiltiis not obligated for direct, indirect, incidental or con-sequential damages, losses or expenses in connec-tion with, or by reason of, the use of, or inability touse the tool for any purpose. Implied warranties ofmerchantability or fitness for a particular purpose arespecifically excluded.

For repair or replacement, send the tool or related partsimmediately upon discovery of the defect to the addressof the local Hilti marketing organization provided.
