Summary of Operating Experience September 1981

Indian Point Unit 3 was synchronized to the bus for a total of 96.9hours, producing a gross generation of 51,480 !!We for this reportingperiod.

The unit was removed from service at 0051 hours on September 5 for *

a scheduled outage. The purpose of the outage was to complete the installationof a replacement transformer for No. 32 main transformer and performtype B and C testing of the containment isolation valves. Upon completionof the outage related work the unit commenced a r.ormal startup. While athot shutdown a primary to secondary leak developed in #31 steam generator. At 2305 hours that same day the unit commenced an orderly cooldown andcold shutdown was achieved at 1700 hours on September 24, 1981. The reactor

coolant system has been drained, the leakir.g tube identified (Row 12 column2 cold leg) and extensive eddy current inspects of all four generators is

'9presently in progress.
