NLevels of inequality are dramatically increasing all over the world. This growing wealth divide leaves the majority of the world population in a state of poverty and injustice.

Nearly 2/3 of the world population lives with less than $2.5 a day, representing the so called “Base of the Pyramid”.

To tackle such crucial social and economic issues at the Base of Pyramid a new generation of social entrepreneurs and innovators is emerging and proposing sustainable solutions.

Social entrepreneurs are creative individuals seeking innovative business solutions able to create social and/or environmental benefits for the entire society.

The main principle behind their actions: inequalities and injustice can and must be tackled through a more responsible way of doing business based on the creation of positive social externalities and on the respect of

In order to take up this challenge, in October 2012 five leading social organization founded Fondazione Opes.

People at the bottom of the pyramid have significant unmet needs, and pay the so-called “poverty penalty”, higher prices to access basic goods and services.
