These markings tend to be, on the student path, “emotional give-away” or “power give-away” markings. In many cases, the person has stepped outside of themselves and puts another person in a position of “power over me.” These markings create intimacy barriers. Even two of these markings operating unconsciously in a person's life can block one's Life Purpose. These lines show up some of the time. When they appear, they are important to consider. The more of them a person has, the more challenging their life can be. Each line has a master and student path. However, the student path tends to override when there are multiple HLSJ markers.

Via Lascivia: Myth of Icarus

Daedalus is the father, Icarus his son, both Greek demigods. Daedalus was a skillful artificer, creating a labyrinth for the king. He then lost favor with the king and was imprisoned. Escaping was not possible over the land or sea because the prison was heavily guarded.

Daedalus knew nobody was guarding the air so he decided to build wings. According to Bullfinch's Mythology, "He wrought feathers together, beginning with the smallest and adding larger, so as to form an increasing surface. The larger ones he secured with thread and the smaller with wax, and gave the whole a gentle curvature like the wings of a bird."

Bullfinch continues, "Icarus, the boy, stood and looked on, sometimes running to gather up the feathers which the wind had blown away, and then handling the wax and working it over with his fingers, by his play impeding his father in his labours."

When they launched the wings for both of them, Daedalus told Icarus to stay at moderate height because flying too low, the damp would clog the wings and if too high the heat would melt them. "Keep near me and you will be safe," he told his son.

The father fastened the wings on his son, and taught him how to fly, like a parent would do for a baby bird. "The face of the father was wet with tears, and his hands trembled. He kissed the boy, not knowing that it was for the last time. Then rising on his wings, Daedalus flew off, encouraging Icarus to follow, and looked back from his own flight to see how his son managed his wings. As they flew, the ploughman stopped his work to gaze and the shepherd leaned on his staff and watched them, astonished at the sight, and thinking they were gods who could thus cleave the air."

"...the boy, exulting in his career, began to leave the guidance of his companion and soar upward as if to reach heaven. The nearness of the blazing sun softened the wax, which held the feathers together and they came off. He fluttered with his arms but no feathers remained to hold the air. While his mouth uttered cries to his father it was submerged in the blue waters of the sea, which thenceforth was called his name. His father cried, “Icarus, Icarus, where are you?" At last he saw the feathers floating on the water, and bitterly lamenting his own arts, he buried the body and called the land Icaria in memory of his child. Daedalus arrived safe in Sicily, where he built a temple to Apollo, and hung up his wings, an offer to the god."

Story: Icarus, the boy stood and looked on, sometimes running to gather up the featherswhich the wind had blown away, and then handling the wax and working it over with thisfingers, by his play impeding his father in his labours.

Interpretation: Icarus started showing signs of doing his own thing, exploring the world byplaying with the wax. He wasn't interested in the impact on others. He was in his ownworld of creative imagination, a moon characteristic. He also knew how the wax worked.

Interpretation: "Don't go beyond what I know is safe for you," warns the father. A father'sexperience and vision could limit a child, if the child obeyed. A child has to explore hisown realms to 'make them his.' A person with a Via Lascivia could listen to 'the father'svoice' and learn from the practical side or go outside that advice way beyond what makessense. This is to explore realms where death is possible, not heeding the advice of peoplewho have traveled the path. Sometimes it's done simply to 'escape' the tribe. Individuatingoften requires exploring outside the tribal boundaries, to your own calling.

Interpretation: The father's need to protect is innate, but he can't control the choices the childmakes. He can only suggest, recommend and give advice based on what he knows from hisadult perspective and life experience.

Interpretation: Icarus needed to blaze his own trail, try his wings, see what he could do onhis own. It cost him his life. With the Via Lascivia, death can be emotional, spiritual, physicalor letting go of limiting beliefs. There are master and student paths to all options. At timesit's important to explore and break free of family/tribal traditions, beliefs, limitations. Achild needs to 'spread his wings and fly,' to chase excitement, to see what he can createbeyond what the generation before learned. The exploration is necessary for the expansionof society. The challenge is to survive, whatever that means in any situation. On the flipside, the exploring or escape from the father's desire, could lead to addictions, devastatingcircumstances that are a 'death' of some sort.

Via Lascivia: Addiction LineIn her recorded audio series, “Energy Anatomy," Caroline Myss, Ph.D. says that everybody is addicted to something.

In between your mental energy (6th chakra) and heart (4th chakra) is your Will (5th chakra).

"So long as your Will is in a fog, you will be an addict. You will either be an addict to a substance, to a habit, to a fear, to the need to have windows opened at a certain angle. I don't care what it is. You will be an addict. There is no such thing as a non-addicted person if the heart and mind are not clear and congruent and the Will is not awake. Now why is that?

...If your mind is going one way, your heart is going another, who is commanding your Will? So long as you keep your mind and your heart away from each other, your Will will find its allegiance in a substance. Your Will becomes commanded by something outside of you because there is nothing inside of you that is strong enough to keep it intact.

You will literally release the circuits of your spirit to a substance, to a person, to a system of thought, to a school of belief, to an external spiritual discipline, to needing to eat tofu, to needing to shove a booty up your nose. Who cares what it is?! You will find some addiction that you are convinced you need for tranquility, when in fact what is technically amiss is that your heart and your mind don't speak to each other and you haven't developed an ounce of genuine Will Power, so you have to give your Will over to an external substance.

Your Will directs your electromagnetic field. It doesn't matter where you send your mind if your electromagnetic, your energy, your spirit doesn't go with it.

From this point on, you start to take a look at exactly into whose hands you have commended your spirit."

Pyramus-Thisbe Line ~ Between Chakras 2 and 3

Mythology:It seems the story of "Romeo and Juliet" as well as "West Side Story" are based upon this myth.

Pyramus (handsomest youth) and Thisbe (fairest maiden) grew up as next door neighbors in Babylonia. They went from being acquaintances as children to loving each other as teenagers. Their parents, however, forbid them to be together, to get married. Thus, they were left to silent glances and signs, creating a more burning fire because of the required cover up. They found a crack in the wall between their houses and were able to at least share tender words. At night when they each had to go back to their rooms, they kissed the wall, frustrated that they couldn't touch, but grateful they had at least this. They agreed to meet each other the next night at the Tomb of Ninus outside of town. Whoever arrived first was to wait at the white mulberry tree near the spring. Thisbe was first to arrive. Wearing a white veil, she waited for Pyramus. A lioness, mouth bloody from a very recent kill, was approaching the spring to drink. It scared Thisbe, so she hid behind a big rock, out of view of the lioness. Thisbe's veil fell as she ran. The lioness saw it, took it into her bloody mouth and then left it on the ground as she parted. Pyramus arrived, saw the bloody veil, lioness prints in the sand and believed Thisbe to be dead. Feeling it was his fault, by asking her to meet him, he killed himself. To protect her from the peril, he fell on the white mulberry tree, drew his sword and stabbed himself in the heart. The blood spurted on the ground and into the root of the tree, changing the white mulberries to red. Thisbe, not having heard him or seen him, cautiously came out from behind the rock, sure the lioness must have left. She was appalled to see Pyramus on the ground, bloody and holding her bloody veil. She saw his empty sword sheath, she knew he had killed himself for her sake. She felt guilty and decided to kill herself because she was the cause of his death. They wanted to be buried together, and they were. This is the reason mulberry trees have purple berries and not white, according to the myth.

C. de Saint Germaine (1897) refers to this line as "Great sorrow from the death or faithlessnessof someone much loved." This would fit the myth of Pyramus-Thisbe.

A wall between Mars and Venus. Communications? Balance between male/female?

Interpretation: When there is miscommunication between the female and male parts of a person, or a "wall" between those energies, they seem to make independent decisions, thus creating, sometimes, dramatic turmoil. Your inner king and queen need to talk.
